The Butterfly Club 14th Annual Opportunity Drawing was a success thank to everyone that participated! Together we raised over: $3,700! BIG Winners were:

    1. Apple Watch + $50 gift cards – Michael P. 2. Google Home: Esther Boring 3. Jessiel Manuel won $250 in gift cards! 4. Alice Olsen from San Marcos also won big! Taking home several gift cards!

The Top Fundraiser was Wanda Brownell from the Stockton office at $540!

Our CEO, Wendy Forkas, volunteered at Porchlight Community Services over a weekend. Porchlight Community Services provides food assistance in the area of our Corporate Office and she follows them on social media. Wendy responded to a social media posting asking for volunteers to come help organize their pantry and work

off what they ate over Thanksgiving. 😊 She arrived at the location the next morning and worked with a few more people throughout the shift clearing out the containers of food by sorting and stacking the food on the shelves. By the time they finished, all the shelves in the back were full and organized, and ready for food pick-up the next day as seen on their social media! Porchlight Community Services is a wonderful food assistance organization that is fully volunteer run and funded by donations. Two of their programs are the Emergency Food Basket and FoodSHARE. There are many ways to get involved by giving of your time, energy, and talents. Picking up food donations, restocking, office help, and coordinating events all help them “grow the program to meet the needs of our community.” -Porchlightcommunity.org

ONE FLUTTER so far this year, 16 volunteer hours have been served & $100 has been donated through CCC’s ONE FLUTTER program! Thanks to CCC employees for supporting such great causes through: Porchlight Community Services, Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno, the Humane Society, and the Foundation Developmental Disabilities, just to name a few!

Celina Lee has volunteered on weekends to deliver food to people who are sick with COVID-19! Way to go!

Visalia Office held a drive by thanksgiving meal for our consumers. We had lots of staff donate food and money to help us make our thanksgiving possible! It was so helpful to have so many helping hands and it was Such a fun experience. We made sure all consumers who wanted a meal received one. If they were not able to attend our food drive then, we arranged to have their food delivered! We all had an amazing Thanksgiving experience and hope our consumers did as well.

Christopher V. has been working hard to get donations for Albertsons “Turkey Bucks Program” to help needy families during the Thanksgiving Holiday. Chris has just celebrated his 14th year working at Albertsons as a courtesy clerk. He has maintained an upbeat and friendly attitude, and is a very hard worker. His Management team says they could not be happier with having Chris on the team! Keep up the great work!

Marcell Buffington and his lovey wife helped along with his church Pastor, Avery D. Dees and his wife Angela Dees from Truelight Missionary Baptist Church in El Cento, in delivering donated Thanksgiving meals to some of our clients. We are grateful for the generous donation. A “Thank you” also goes to Lydia & Eloy for distributing the meals! Your dedication to our clients is well noted and appreciated.

    November 2020

November was also time for a big event we partake in called Stand Down. Our San Diego Stand Down is typically a three-day event where supplies and services such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings, support groups, and VA Social Security benefits counseling, and loads of other cool and necessary services are provided to homeless Veterans. While Stand Down looked VERY different this year than in years past, we showed up and were able to safely connect with many Veterans who were in need of services and referrals. A special thanks to VCS staff Alicia and Wendy M., who attended this year representing VCS!

We would like to take the time highlight Case Coordinator Maria Meyer, as her clients like to think she deserves it! When one client was asked how their quality of life improved, they said, “I live on my own, I have a pet, and we love life!” How awesome is that?! And when another Veteran was asked for comments on their experience with VCS on their satisfaction survey, they said she was, “Great- Maria has been absolutely wonderful & such a pleasure to deal with. She has turned my situation into a bright & positive experience.” Keep it up Maria and thank you for all you do to make the lives of our Veterans more positive!

Hello Catalysts! #TeamVCS worked hard this November to get as many Veterans in housing for Thanksgiving as we could! Working with 405 active Veteran households at this very moment, you know we are VERY busy. So far this month we enrolled 16 additional Veteran households and successfully moved 16 more into PERMANENT housing! To aid in this effort, we also currently have 106 veterans temporarily housed in local motels, while we work hard to find them permanent housing, support them in increasing their income, and make referrals for other necessary resources to help them attain, maintain and sustain permanent housing!

Last but not least, we welcomed on Briana Holzbauer in a brand-new role for VCS, Health Care Coordinator. Briana is a Master level Social Worker with a background in behavioral health, and experience working with our homeless neighbors. We are so excited to have Briana in this very new role, developed to support our program and Veterans who have complex mental/physical health needs and require assistance with identifying healthcare needs, accessing care, resolving barriers to healthcare needs, and adhering to health care plans. Briana is definitely up for the challenge and already jumped in feet first to collaborate with her team. Fun fact: she hiked Half Dome three times! Yes, three! Ask her about the last time and why it will stay her last – YIKES! WELCOME, Briana!

Thanksgiving Recipes For the month of November, we had a bonus challenge to submit your favorite sugar-free / reduced dessert recipe! Below are just some of the tasty options staff submitted to earn their bonus Wellness Points and who knows, maybe

you might want to recreate these as well
