KENNEDY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 1
No. 15, 4 May 2018kennedy school newsletter
THE PRINCIPALMESSAGE FROM
Dear Parents,
Only six weeks until the end of the school year with a jam packed schedule ahead for everyone.
Can I personally thank the Kennedy School community for supporting our “Hands on Hong Kong”, “Sunshine Action” Charity Food drive. Firstly, for collecting the amazing number of bottles of oil and tins of meat, secondly for the 150 families who helped out on Saturday, 5th of May to pack the food bags and finally to the families and staff who helped deliver the bags to those in need last Saturday, 12th May. A real community effort.
This week we have had Kennedy School teams compete in a number of different events. The Kennedy Battle of the Books team made it to the final of the Hong Kong competition. Our cricket teams both played with team A being runners up in the Island Schools Cup final. Our Aquathon team won the invitational event at Kellett School Kowloon. Well done to all our teams!
Year 5 have been impressing us with their business presentations this week and I would like to thank the mums and dads for joining in on the presentation panels and sharing their expertise with us. Today one of our school council community representatives shared his family business story with two Year 5 classes. How to produce 500,000 tins of shuttlecocks a month!
Year 6 are busily working on their exhibition and we also had assemblies this week from 1N, 4D and 5W.
Please be reminded that Monday is a school closure CPD day and we will see you back at school on Wednesday, 23rd May.
Please see attached a slight change to the 2018/2019 Kennedy School Calendar. The Hong Kong Government has just confirmed that Monday, 13th May will be a public holiday for Buddha’s birthday therefore the CPD day planned for 1st February will now be a normal school day.

ESF Kennedy School partnered with HandsOn Hong Kong & Sunshine Action to help families in need across HK.
From March 26th to May 4th, we collected bottles of oil and cans of meat. Then on May 5, volunteers from the Kennedy community came together to pack the food bags. On May 12th, these bags were delivered to those in need.
Children got house points for the food items brought in and for volunteering, and there was some fierce house competition.
An amazing cause and a great show of Kennedy community spirit! Thank you for your kindness and congratulations Kennedy community!

As part of the ‘Enterprise’ unit of inquiry through the theme ‘How We Organise Ourselves’, the Year 5 children have spent 6 weeks researching, designing, innovating and producing an array of unique and personalised goods to sell at unbelievable prices!
Their hard work will culminate in the Year 5 Market Day where the rest of the Kennedy School students are invited to purchase the Year 5 products. This year we have a fine selection of arts & craft, stress balls, keychains, bookmarks, brownies, cookies, popcorn, soaps & candles and much, much more!
Prices range from around $10 to $40 and all profits will be donated to our four house charities.
Every class will get an opportunity to visit the market so please help prepare your child with some pocket money to spend that day.

The Kennedy School A and B Cricket Teams played in the Island Schools Tournament with all the boys enjoying the opportunity to play for their school.
The A Team won all their matches and anded up being runners up in the Cup Final.
Great effort boys.
The Kennedy School Battle of the Books team competed on Thursday in the finals for the Hong Kong Battle of the Books against Hong Kong International School, International School Foundation, Chinese International, Shatin Junior School and Hong Kong Academy.
After 15 rounds of questions, Chinese International School came out on top. Kennedy fought valiantly and worked well together as a team. They collaborated and trusted in each other’s knowledge of the 20 competition books. The Kennedy Team was cheered on by some of the children’s parents. A HUGE thank you to all of the children who participated in the Battle of the Books this year and a special thank you to Susan Misfud for supporting them and prepping them along the way. The Book lists for next year’s primary and secondary competitions are now out if you’re keen to get started early!
