President: Mr. Peter Holland (Australia)
Vice president: Mr. Komaki Kazuo (Japan)
Secretariat: Mr. Li Weisen (China)
Members
Consists of 55 members in Asia and the Pacific Represented by Directorate of national survey and mapping organizations
Aim of PCGIAPTo maximize the economic, social and environmental benefits of geographic information by providing a forum for Asia and the Pacific to:
➢Cooperate in the development of a Regional Spatial Data Infrastructure (RSDI), “APSDI”
➢Contribute to the development of the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI)

8th PCGIAP meeting decided implement the prototype of
APSDI clearinghouse.
APSDI Clearinghouse is an environment that can facilitate access to geo-spatial data, products and services

ReviewDuring 7th PCGIAP Meeting, 2001-4,Tsukuba,Japana➢ A task force for APSDI data node was formed➢ Task: promoting the planning and implementation of APSDI
spatial data clearinghouse.➢ Started a pilot project
Before 8th PCGIAP Meeting, 2002-4,Brunei Darussalam➢ Workshop on APSDI Clearinghouse (Hainan Islands, China,
Nov. 2001);➢ PCGIAP Metadata profile drafted; ➢ Guidelines for APSDI Clearinghouse Node Development
drafted.
ReviewBefore 9th PCGIAP meeting, 2003-7,Okinawa, Japan
➢PCGIAP Metadata profile And a metadata entry tool named Mediator complying to this profile is developed and free available.
➢Guidelines for APSDI Clearinghouse Node Development finished and a reference prototype Implementation of APSDI Clearinghouse provided at http://nfgis.nsdi.gov.cn/apsdi
ReviewBefore 11th PCGIAP Meeting, 2005-5,Bali, Indonesia
➢ Joint Workshop of WG1 and WG2 ,7- 9 September 2004, Chengdu, China
➢Closed the pilot project and reinstituted the taskforce
➢ESRI GIS Portal Toolkit Workshop for PCGIAP, 6-8 April, 2005, Hong Kong, China
13 participants from 6 members (China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Nepal, Malaysia) attended
12th PCGIAP & 17th UNRCCAP, Tailand, 2006
Recommends PCGIAP encourage close collaboration between PCGIAP Working Group 2 with ISO/TC211 in the development of an ISO Metadata standard profile for Asia Pacific.
PCGIAP Metadata profile Fully derived from ISO/DIS 19115
core metadata elements. Strictly according to the rules for
creating a profile in ISO/DIS 19115 clause C6.
✓ No extension;✓ all mandatory metadata elements
in all mandatory sections;✓ all conditional metadata elements
in all mandatory sections, if the
dataset meets the condition;✓ all mandatory metadata elements

PCGIAP Metadata profileThey are enough to answer ”what, why when who, where and how” questions about geospatial data.
What - title and description of the data set.
Why - abstract detailing reasons for the data collection and its uses.
When - when the dataset was created and the update cycles if any.
Who - originator, data supplier, and possibly intended audience.
Where - the geographical extent based on latitude / longitude, co-ordinates, geographical names or administrative areas.
How - how it was built and how to access the data.
Metadata Edit Tool
Features: Use treeview to represent the relationship
between elements of different level in the hiberarchy structure.
Pop-up menu can be created dynamically according to the adopted schema
You can customize the interface, template, and even add new XML Schema to enable this software to create other XML file according to the specified XML Schema.
A lot of short cuts, pop-up menu enable you edit your document freely.
Used to capture metadata complying to the profile

4. Recent Actions13th PCGIAP Meeting, June 2007 Seoul, KoreaMetadata profile for AP TaskforceCoordinator: Prof. Sang-Ki Hong, Vice Chair of WG2
➢ Use what has already been done by PCGIAP in the past➢ Select latest ISO standards as the basis for this exercise➢ Look at the profile already developed by the UN (UNGIWG)➢ Connect the PCGIAP process with the one started by CODI
and eventually PCIDEA➢ Create a draft profile to be discussed among the members of
PCGIAP➢ Look at tools that could support the use of this profile➢ Provide information and material to the members through
the WG 2 web site➢ Increase awareness through the organization of at least one
workshop on metadata in the region➢ Address the language issue (e.g.: glossary of terms, ISO)
