Merk forskjellen i temperatur (5 grader i hydrat og 0 grader for is)

Seismic detection of hydrates • Seismic methods:
contrasts in density and elastic moduli associated with the presence of gas hydrate within sediment pore spaces versus saline pore fluid or free methane gas
Sampling of acustic reflection from seismic shots (from towed devices on ocean, close to bottom or bottom mounted acoustic signal generators)

Geophysical characterization and quantification of gas hydrates
P-cable: High resolution 3D seismic concept
• “Shallow” 3-D reflection seismic with high frequencies (50-250 Hz) • A seismic cable towed perpendicular to the vessel’s steaming direction •Many seismic streamers attached to a wire (cross cable) held in place by two doors •Used configuration with 12 (8) streamers towed parallel (streamer offset of ~10 m).

Detection of hydrates through resistivity measurements
• Electrical methods are based on contrasts in electrical conductivity, or its inverse, resistivity.
• Gas hydrate is essentially an insulator, in contrast to saline pore fluids with resistivities on the order of 1 ohm-m or less

Example (Moridis & Collett, 2008) DOE Merit Review, August 26-27, 2008Pittsburgh, PENNSYLVANIA
• Resistivity typically estimates higher hydrate saturation than analysis from P-Wave velocity (seismic)
• (Even though these data appear to be open on the net the best is to request DOE for details on these data if interested in detailed location)

Dissociation alone costs roughly 5% of produced HC
Brings the system out of P,T stability zone but dissociation heat must be supplied from surroundings or added
Costly and require extra processing. Dilution from dissociated water limits efficiency

Natural gas have been produced from Messoyakha (Russia) hydrate field using pressure reduction
• Accumulated gas production (2001) 11.6 Billion cubic meter from 1970,
• of which about half is assigned to production from gas hydrates

Messoyakha - continued • Reservoir of type I (gas
below hydrate), for which pressure reduction can be used without excessive water production
• Initial reservoir pressure at production conditions 78 bar
• Hydrate saturation 20 – 40%

Status • Pressure reduction have been verified in full scale (Messoyakha) as well as in pilot plants (Mallik I and II) in Alaska
• Thermal stimulation have also been verified but is more costly
• Chemical injection have been tested in several laboratories and works but very costly with all infrastructure related to chemicals and extra separation stages

A project for large scale testing of our patent is in progress with partial funding from DOE and first test was completed April 10, 2012

Flaring the produced natural gas after injection of CO2/N2 Project is formally open and it is expected that more details From analysis will be posted as they appear

• Selv i dag transporteres gass over store deler av kloden.
• Dagens næringsliv 9/3-12 • Ser eksplosivt behov for
LNG-skip • Gassrederiet Golar tror USA
åpner for gasseksport i 2016. • TDN Finans • Publisert: 09.03.2012 - 15:37

So why didn’t the industry like the CO2/CH4 exchange concept in the first place when I launched it 20 years ago? Mostly statements similar to:
«The enthalpy change is too small to get the conversion for CO2/CH4 exchange process going»
And that is correct. The enthalpy changes are in right direction but small. But the entropy changes totally dominate the conversion

Do we have any independent evidence that this is a solid state phase transition?
Dr. John Ripmeester, Stacie institute for molecular sciences, NRC, Ottawa, Ontario
• Main differences from our experiments:
• Powdered ice + methane to produce methane hydrate
• NMR (atom level) as the main experimental tool for detection of primary conversion mechanisms
Results available in different papers, also in Nature
Later research also on injection of CO2 +N2 together with Korean researchers
NMR data gives clear evidence that the conversion is a solid state phase transition

But is the solid state conversion the only mechanism in a realistic porous media and a real reservoir? • Hydrate cannot cement pores (6 nm
distance to mineral surfaces minimum)
• Rarely any real hydrate reservoir hydrate saturations above 50%
• Formation of new CO2 hydrate from free water and CO2 is faster and releases substantial heat for dissociating in situ methane hydrate
Lower hydrate saturations implies more impact of new CO2 hydrate formation and is overall faster overall than converting reservoirs with higher hydrate saturation with more impact of solid state conversion

The motivation (and correspoding funding) for Norwegian hydrate research have earlier been related to either transport and processing
issues or specific offshore installation concerns
Ormen Lange is an ordinary offshore oil and gas field. But the transport to shore passes regions of hydrate and the stability of these formations with respect to technical installations is a concern.
The tsunami following the first massive collapse due to rapidly dissociating hydrate in Storegga 7000 years ago
drowned the lowlands of Skotland
Extensive dissociation and hydrate, with corresponding limited collapses may have occured as late as 250 years ago
Remaining hydrate in Storegga is estimated to about 4000 square kilometer with acerage thickness 40 – 50 m

The main goal was to quantify gas accumulations in:
1) the form of hydrates in sediments on the Mid-Norwegian margin;
including an assessment of their dynamics and impacts on the seabed
2) their response on sediments and biota, to provide knowledge vital for a safe
exploitation in oil and gas production.

Verdipotensialet forts. • Produserbare reservoar med bruk av
«klassiske» teknologier:
1) Hydratlag over gass 2) Hydrat over grunnvann 3) Hydrat uten kontakt med fluid faser
• Reservoir Conditions (Mallik) • P = 1.07x107 Pa ( = 1553 psi) at B • T = 13.5 oC at B
• Operation: Depressurization • Q = 0.82 m3/s (= 2.5 MMSCFD) • QH = 200 W/m (Heated wellbore) • Well location: -46m to -56m

Verdipotensialet forts.
Merk den lave initielle raten pga langsom økning in permeabilitet («strømningsevne for fluider»)
Forenklet modell for Mount Elbert basert på seismiske data

Verdipotensialet forts.
Estimated production from Messoyakha in m3/s (top) and changes in hydrate saturation (bottom) after (from top) 9 months, 20 months and 28 months. Lower section is the free gas below hydrate (seen as blue in lower picture)

Simulation of Mallik (Moridis et.al. 2008, TOUGH-HYDRATE).

Hva investeres det i dag? • Grunnleggende patenter for
produksjonsmetoder
Normal text - click to edit
