    Site Clearance

    Scope of Works

    The clearance of identified fencing, vegetation and general clearance from the area of demolition works associated with the Bourne Core Development works

    This Method Statement is to be read in conjunction with the Risk Assessments.

    Potential Hazards / Health and Safety 1. Works adjacent to public areas. Clearly defined Demolition Area to be

    identified and fenced. 2. Asbestos removal Compliance with current legislation

    3. Use of chainsaw trained and competent operative with correct PPE 4. Use of Plant Ensure maintained and in test 5. Demolition works Trained and competent operatives

    Personal Protective Equipment

    1. P3 Respirators 2. Disposable Coveralls

    3. Hard hat 4. Gloves 5. Safety footwear 6. Any other protection identified during the course of the works.

    Note all operatives to be qualified to carry out the tasks undertaken.

    Works Procedures 1. Agree on site with the clients representative the extent of the works to be

    carried out prior to any works taking place. 2. Ensure that no services are exposed, or attached to fences etc throughout the

    area of works. Any identified are to be clearly identified and left until isolated.

    3. Carryout induction training with all men on site to ensure that they are aware of all hazards on site, the scope of our works and familiar with the contents of

    the method statements and risk assessments for the works. 4. Ensure that a safe working area has been identified and 2m heras style security

    fencing erected where there is no boundary fence, with Demolition Keep Out signs erected. This fencing is to be inspected at the close of every shift to ensure the security of the site is maintained.

    5. A daily morning talk will be given to all personal about work that is to be carried out that day, plant movements and site deliveries.

    6. Due to the location of the works being close to residential properties noisy operations are not to commence until 8am.

    7. Several trees on the site are to be protected and left undisturbed during the works, these are to be clearly identified by Trent Valley Representative.

    Asbestos Removal 8. It is likely that asbestos cement sheeting will be identified during the clearance

    of the undergrowth and vegetation. Should any be identified or suspected the supervisor is to be advised, and once confirmed cleared by operatives wearing appropriate PPE and RPE i.e. disposable coveralls and P3 respirators.

    9. Operatives wearing P3 respirators, disposable coveralls and gloves are to pick up the asbestos and place within approved red asbestos bag, sealed, and then the red bag placed within a clear bag and again sealed.

    10. All tools used are to be wiped with damp cloth on completion, and cloths disposed of as asbestos contaminated.

    11. All protective clothing is to be carefully removed and placed within an asbestos bag and again disposed of as asbestos waste.

    12. The asbestos skips are to be covered over prior to any movement off site.

    Fence Removal

    13. Timber fencing is to be removed by operatives using hand tools, and the materials segregated and placed with appropriate skips, timber and steel.

    14. Excavator to be used to grub out any concrete post bases. This concrete is to be placed on hardcore stockpile for crushing.

    15. During all works exclusion areas are to be set up to protect other members of the workforce, visitors to the site and the client.

    Clearance Works 16. General grass and low level vegetation will be scrapped clear using a mini

    digger operated by trained and competent operatives. 17. Larger tree trunks will be cut down by a trained and competent operative with

    chain saw, wearing approved PPE for chain saw use.

    18. All waste from the clearance to be sorted with green waste segregated from general, metal and asbestos.

    19. Site to be kept in a clean and tidy manner during the course of the works, and left to the satisfaction of the client upon completion.

    This method statement is to be reviewed and amended as the works progress to ensure

    that the demolition works are carried out in the safest manner possible.

    Should you have any question with regards the safety of the works you are

    carrying out STOP and seek advice from your supervisor.
