Tortillas• Corn is an important food in
Mexico. This woman makes tortillas she pats cornmeal dough into flat, round patties and bakes them quickly and on a hot griddle.
Mariachi• Mariachi bands play music for
dancing. The band usually includes a violin, a guitar and a trumpet.
Rio Grande• The Rio Grande is a 1,900 mile
river between Mexico and the untied states.
Butterflies• Monarch butterflies fly south to
spend the winter in Mexico. Some travel up to 2,000 miles form the east coast of the Untied States.
Silver• Mexico is the leading silver
producer in the world. This silver bracelet was made in Mexico.
Fishing• Fishing is an important source of
food and money in Mexico this boat is bringing in a large catch of shrimp.
Piñata• A Piñata is a decorated paper-Mache
canister filled with sugarcane, candy, peanuts and fruit. Star piñatas are often part of Mexican celebrations. Children take turns trying to break the piñata with a stick, and then quickly gather up the
• scattered treats.
Bird• The Quetzal bird lives in the rain
forest of Mexico.
Climate• Mexico has fertile valleys, tropical
forests, and snow-capped mountains. The northern part is mostly desert.
