Tuesday 28 April 2015 Dear MHRD colleagues and students – past and present, We write on behalf of the Master of Human Rights (Asia Pacific) Steering Committee and program staff, a partnership that spans Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Australia and beyond. Today we stand in solidarity with our Nepali colleagues, students and friends following the catastrophic earthquake in Nepal on Saturday 25 April 2015. We have been in touch with colleagues at the Kathmandu School of Law and are relieved to report that our KSL colleagues and students undertaking their regional semester with KSL are all accounted for in the aftermath of the earthquake. We are also waiting on news of our full cohort of Nepali alumni – grateful for any news confirming everyone is safe. For those of you directly impacted by this disaster, we send you strength and our deepest wishes that you, your family, friends and communities remain safe. We are deeply sorry for the losses you are experiencing and we stand by you as the country rebuilds again. We are encouraged to hear already of the various ways in which students, staff and alumni are working to make a positive contribution to this terrible situation. Before beginning any discussions of how the MHRD community might collectively act to support our Nepali colleagues and friends, it is important to note that Nepal remains in a state of emergency. Many lives have been lost, many people are still missing and for those that are safe, the dangers are far from over. We also hope you will forward this email on to staff and alumni for whom we do not have contact details at hand. Please do keep us updated with any news and if we are aware of any relevant developments, we will of course also update you. Once again in solidarity, Professor Nicola Piper On behalf of the MHRD Steering Committee and Program Staff
