Organized activities began on Saturday morning with the Miami University Men’s RFC Alumni Association’s 4 th Annual General Meeting at the Shriver Center. The meeting was attended by alumni from many different classes. Members identified goals for the next calendar year and set a plan to accomplish those goals. Craig Scheiderer `97 and Marc Hirselj `96 were both re-elected to two-year terms on the executive committee as secretary and vice president. The vacant treasurer position has been filled by Brian Slutzky `96. The weekend centered around Saturday afternoon matches between the Old Boys and their student counterparts. The Old Boys’ first side, bolstered by several recent graduates, prevailed in a hard fought, exciting match against the university A side, with a final score of 41 - 26. The weather was hot and humid (as usual), and there were times that the fitness of the Old Boys was clearly flagging relative to that of the young boys. But ultimately, the experience of the Old Boys overwhelmed the youngsters. The young boys played well, attesting to the leadership of Coach Kevin Kittredge. There were many notable efforts for the Old Boys, including guest appearances by “Energizer Bunnies” Ken Glassmeyer and J.R. Hassett, and alternating playing/refereeing performances by Mike Coco and Woody Fox. As a result of his hard charging forward play, Bob Schinke received the Man of the Match award. 2005 AWARDS Most Valuable Play by an Old Boy Bob Schinke `05 Most Valuable Play by a Young Boy Brandon the Prop Outstanding Old Boys Volunteer Steve Seilkop `74 Outstanding Young Boy Volunteer Joe “Mario” Naumann, Club President `05 Doug Edwards Memorial Award Jared Moore `98 Lionel Young Memorial Scholarship Peter Griffith `06 Doug Edwards Memorial Scholarship Joe “Mario” Naumann `05 The young boys started a new tradition of their own with the first annual “Steve Smith Award,” which was given to current senior and former club president B.J. Following the first match, theReally Old Boys competedagainst the university B side.Crazy men in their mid-40s tomid-50s (along with a fewyounger alumni) laced up theirboots to show they still had theright stuff. There were a fewglimmers of former brilliance, but the heat and age took theirtoll; the university boysregularly arrived at thebreakdowns first, which theyused to advantage in scoringseveral unanswered tries and asolid victory. A memorablepart of the match was the participation ofsecond generation Miami rugby alumni SeanEdwards ̀ 04 and Jon Gustin ̀ 03 (along withhis dad Steve), and the father/son duo of Bill`97 and Gareth Griffes.

After the matches, there was a fried chicken/jambalaya feast (prepared by Bill and NancyGriffes), which was served under a tent at thepitch. Awards and scholarships werepresented by alumni president Mike Coco`97. Old Boys and current players mingledand told stories/lies.

Overall, it was a great Old Boys weekend, which happened to occur this year onMiami’s Homecoming Weekend. The Miamirugby tradition of excellence on and off thefield was carried forward by universityplayers and Old Boys alike. Mostimportantly, it was a terrific opportunity tocatch up with old friends and to make newones. If you haven’t been to an Old Boysweekend for a while, it’s definitely somethingyou should consider – the next one will be

September 8-10, 2006.
