It is employed in direct supervision and general staff training and inservices and also adapted for general staff training in client stress management and behavioral management, co worker stress management and conflict resolution and more general life stress management. (2) Research, review, presentation, writing and publication activity covered a broad range of rehabilitation related areas reflective of a varied clinical practice. Topics ranged from assessment (including response bias) to treatment for various aspects of rehabilitation, neurobehavioral rehabilitation, chronic pain assessment and management, adaptation to neurological injury and impairment, disability assessment, adaptation to disability, neuropsychological assessment and neuroethics and forensic neuropsychology. Rehab Psychology / Neuropsychology Contract Service Provider Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind, Richmond, Virginia Sept. 1997 - 2002

Responsibilities included conducting and overseeing rehabilitation psychology and neuropsychology services to (a) VRCBVI resident clients (clients with visual impairment, adjustment and other mental health disorders and/or neurologic impairments), including assessment, individual and group cognitive-behavioral and behavioral and consultation interventions, and (b) staff (and occasionally, family members) psychoeducation on specific and general behavior and stress management and specific therapist and caregiver coping strategies and resources (with emphasis on caregiver survivor strategies and assessing and protecting against and treating caregiver burnout). Research project activity included collecting and presenting data in two areas: i) role of vulnerability factors in predicting adaptation to blindness and general life adaptation; ii) incidence of neurocognitive impairments in persons with visual impairment referred for vocational and other skills training. Clinical responsibilities in a comprehensive, continuum of care rehabilitation network providing interdisciplinary services to physically, cognitively and psychologically impaired adults (i.e. CVA, TBI, SCI, Neuromuscular, Musculoskeletal, Neurologic including Dementia, Chronic Illness, Adjustment, etc.) included: --Senior clinician - provide (4+ direct clinical hours per day), supervise, oversee individual, group, behavior management, neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation and consultation services to in-, out-, day-, and transitional living patients, families and staff members; --Department head/ Supervisor - coordinate and integrate neuropsychological, rehabilitation and clinical psychological services (up to 7 PhDs, 2 post Docs and a couple of MA, BA staff) into the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team effort; --Staff, patient and family member education and training – provide educational training ranging from neurobehavioral assessment and management topics and general behavioral management to specific and more general stress management, conflict resolution, including caregiver burnout and compassion fatigue prevention and treatment, improving behavioral health and awareness and mental health related issues. -- Developing, refining and/or implementing psycho-educational programs, training and referral resources and strategic planning for improving behavioral health and awareness and Mental Health related issues. Martelli remains one of the few complete programs for rehabilitation psychology); --Streamlining administrative duties; --Clinical management duties; --Contributing to hospital rehabilitation service management, planning, growth and problem solving.

Research activities:

Numerous small scale projects were conducted within the context of a scientist-practitioner model where data were collected from clinical patients.
