EMBLEM
FROM FATHER TO SON
An emblem symbolizes a quality, place or class of people. Emblem embodies the unparalleled quality of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, the exceptional appellations and vineyards in which it flourishes and the singular contributions of the Michael Mondavi family, who have helped bring Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon to the forefront of the fine wine world. Michael and his son Rob imbue Emblem with the artistry and passion for excellence emblematic of their family's rich winemaking tradition.
EMBLEM
Four generations of our family have helped bring Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon to the forefront of the fine wine world. The artistry and passion handed from father to son to support this rich winemaking tradition have inspired us to create Emblem from Napa Valley's most exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon sub-appellations and vineyards.
Emblem is a personal reflection of our past and future in the Napa Valley, embodying the unparalleled quality of the land's fruit and our family's dedicated winemaking heritage.”
EMBLEM
EMBLEM NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON
• Cabernet Sauvignon 87% + Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec
• 18 months of aging in French oak barrels
To create Emblem Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, grapes are sourced from throughout Napa Valley’s finest winegrowing regions, including Rutherford, Atlas Peak, Wooden Valley, and the family’s own Oso Vineyard in Pope Valley.
By blending fruit from Napa’s volcanic hillside soils and the deeper alluvial soils of the valley floor, mouthfeel and layers of rich, complex flavors are being rounded.
EMBLEM
EMBLEM OSO VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON
• Extended maceration of 21 – 28 days• 22 months of aging in French oak barrels (45% new)• Further 6 months aging in bottle
The grapes are harvested from the family’s OsoVineyard. Planted on slopes rising up from Schwartz Creek, it is nestled between Sugarloaf and Howell Mountains in Napa Valley, where the historic Oat Hill Mine Road begins its ascent over the mountain toward Calistoga. From the soil and elevation this mountain fruit extracts intense varietal characteristics, a firm structure, and excellent aging potential.
Emblem Oso Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is beautifully balanced, with a supple, elegant texture and lush ripe fruit flavors of cherry and blackberry, and subtle oak nuances of chocolate, toffee, and toasted vanilla.
“M is a reflection of my vision for great wine – complex and subtle, made to be enjoyed with a meal, revealing itself slowly over time and inviting you back for a second glass.”

ANIMO VINEYARD
Michael Mondavi’s grandfather taught him as a boy that all great winemakers, first and foremost, have respect for their soil. Making wine from the roots up, he said, is the only way to create a truly unique wine instilled with a sense of time and place. Years later, when Michael chose the vineyard site for M, those words were not far from his mind. He named the vineyard “Animo” (“soul” in Italian) because of his belief that it clearly expressed terroir (or sense of place). This vineyard, high atop Atlas Peak on 15 acres of rocky, volcanic soil, would carry on its terroir through the vines into the grapes and, ultimately, finish in the glass.
WINEMAKING
The fruit’s rich flavors, ripe tannins and balanced acidity enables Michael to craft an M Cabernet Sauvignon of unmatched richness, elegance and harmony.
• Fermentation in small punch down tanks at 27-30°C.• Extended post-fermentation maceration of 18-22 days • 22 months of aging in French oak barrels (85% new) • 12-15 months of aging in bottle prior to release
Interesting detail: The M is clarified with a light egg-white fining in barrel, using organic eggs from Rob’s “estate” chickens.
Stylistically reminiscent of the legendary Mondavi cabernets of the late 1960s and early 1970s, crafted by Michael, M is a prestigious wine reflecting the animo, or “soul,” of its maker: compelling, dynamic, and elegant.
