Winter 2012 edition

3rd AnnuAl MichigAn gAlASave The Date! Friday night, June 28.

Those who attended the 2nd Annual Michigan Gala last April would tell you that you don’t want to miss this next one. We had a fabulous night with a fun silent auction and wine-tasting event, plus an upbeat inspirational program with the theme, Celebrate Hope. There was a “buzz” around town as people talked about what a great time they had and how they looked forward to next year.

And that is just what we will do this summer on June 28. The Bay Harbor Yacht Club is making it possible for us to use their fantastic venue. Mark your calendar and start inviting folks—this is a great way that we can multiply our impact by getting friends involved in caring for “the least of these.” Let us know if you will be a table host and help us fill a table.

Many travelers who go on vision or mission trips with Orphan Helpers return saying that as much as the children need us, we need them more…Come on a Vision Trip with Ron Goodman, Director of Partnerships, and get an overview of all the incredible ministry that Orphan Helpers is doing serving these beautiful children and teens housed in government centers in El Salvador and Honduras.

Two Vision Trips are open to you right now:

2. April 8 – 13 (El Salvador)

You will be introduced to nearly every orphanage and detention center where Orphan Helpers works in the particular country you visit. They are fast-paced trips that offer a thorough overview of our pro-grams as well as a personal introduction to the children we serve. The cost is approxi-mately $2,000 depending on airline fares. Wanted: people to love, play with, and serve orphans...Join us on a mission trip!

Mission Trips differ from Vision Trips in that typically team members visit one city in either El Salvador or Honduras and work each day in an orphanage and/or detention center doing sports, crafts, games, construction, etc. The cost of the trip ranges from $1300-$1600 and is mainly dependent on the cost of airfare.

Trip Under Construction: March 29 - April 7, 2013

Jake Tracy, Youth Pastor, and other leaders at First Presbyterian Church of Petoskey have a group of families going on this trip and welcome others to join them. Call Jake 616-889-4104 or contact Ron Goodman and spend your Spring Break loving and serving children!

I am privileged to still get to live in beautiful Northern Michigan and still serve on the staff of Orphan Helpers. While my travels take me frequently to Central America and across the USA, I also have been privileged to speak to several churches and mission teams in our area. God is doing something grand here in Northern Michigan for orphan ministry!

Jacob Manthei and an incredible team of volunteers are planning another great Michigan Gala for June 28 - And we are having fun doing it. We have room for everyone that wants to get involved. Just give me a call at 622-2223 and I will get you connected!

A lot of Northern Michigan folks have gone on Mission and Vision Trips with Orphan Helpers. There is one commonality among all these folks: they come back with their lives impacted and pumped up with a vision for the need and importance of this ministry . . . and a great desire to share this ministry with others.

We have lots of dreams for the Northern Michigan chapter of Orphan Helpers, including the development of a social network ministry sharing this incredible work. Stay tuned – lots more to come with folks Up North helping desperate kids in Central America!

THANKS FOR CARING AND ALLOWING GOD TO USE YOU!
