MICROMINE CORECore is the ‘engine’ of Micromine.

    This powerful module allows you

    to import, validate, process,

    display and interpret a wide

variety of surface, drillhole, andsubsurface data.

    Core incorporates Vizex (Visual Explorer),

    Micromine’s integrated, intuitive and

seamless 2D and 3D viewing and

    editing environment. Vizex allows you

    to simultaneously display, query, and

    interactively edit multiple data layers.

Core includes a powerful Plotting Module,

    featuring a Vizex-style interface. Its

plotting capabilities enable the creation of

complex plot layouts in minutes, using a

selection of customised templates. CorePlotting supports interactive pan and

zoom within a 2D plot; and rotate, pan

and zoom within a 3D plot. Plots are easily

    customised using simplified templates and

snippets, and layout editing is easy with

    familiar drag-and-drop. Mass output is

    accelerated utilising macro automation.

MICROMINE EXPLORATIONThe Exploration module extends the

basic capabilities of Vizex to include the

analytical and modelling tools needed in

    advanced exploration projects.

    Used for resource evaluation, Micromine

Exploration is a prerequisite module for

resource estimation, as it has the required

    statistics and geostatistics functionality.

    Micromine Exploration enables you to

    visualise, interpret and model, advanced

project data using additional Vizexdisplays and oriented drillhole structures.

Drillhole data can be combined, simplified

    or redistributed using compositing

    methods such as downhole, grade,

interval and geology, which are essential

    for resource estimation. Statistics and

    geostatistic options facilitate analysis of

    advanced exploration data. Advanced

    surface modelling, such as geochemical

contours, can be performed using grid

tools and DTM (Digital Terrain Modelling)

tools are used to model surfaces, such

    as topography or pit shells.

    MICROMINE WIREFRAMINGMicromine’s Wireframing module provides

the tools for building, managing, and

analysing the 3D solids and 3D surfaces

    used for advanced exploration, resource

    estimation, mining and geological

    modelling. Utilising powerful and intuitive

tools, it visually constructs 3D shapes

    representing underground mine designs,

    or orebody interpretations, referencing

data such as centre-line strings, profile

    shapes or polygonal strings.

MICROMINE SURVEYINGThe Surveying module imports and

    processes survey data. It provides

    calculation facilities for points, strings,

    surfaces and volumes collected from

mine surveys, open pit and underground

operations. It supports communicationwith survey instruments and has generic

    tools for survey calculations.

    MICROMINE MININGMicromine’s Mining module provides

the necessary design tools for open pit,

    or surface, and underground mining.

    With advanced Vizex display objects

for grade control, pit, underground, ring

and blasthole design, the Mining menu

    supports underground stope, panel

and ring design, open pit, stockpile and

blasthole design and pit optimisation data

    import and export.

    Used across all commodities Mining’s

powerful and intuitive tools facilitate the

development of pits, roads, tunnels and

shafts; the production of blastholes and

stopes; as well as grade control.

    EIGHT MODULES,COUNTLESS APPLICATIONS

Micromine comprises eight modules. Its modularstructure means it is adaptable to your needs.

As your operation grows and your requirementschange, Micromine grows with you.

MICROMINE RESOURCEESTIMATIONWhereas Micromine Core allows you

to estimate the grade and tonnage of a

mineral resource using simple tools, the

    Resource Estimation module is designed

specifically for detailed and advancedresource analysis and reporting. Its

block modelling tools are used for mine

    design and reserve estimation. Advanced

    exploration work, in-house resource

    estimation projects, resource estimation

    consulting, mining and orebody modelling

all use the Resource Estimation module.

Micromine tools, such as form sets,

simplify the process of setting up resource

    estimations and provide a documentation

    trail, an essential requirement for

    standards-compliant reporting.

Resource Estimation supports regularmodels and sub-blocked models.

    Sub-blocking tools easily facilitate the

    conversion of sub-blocked models

into regular models and vice versa, an

essential feature for data sharing with

    other applications where sub-blocking

    is not supported. Resource Estimation

sub-blocking tools also make it easy to

combine different models for the same

project, for example, an orebody model

with a waste model. The module also

includes Unfolding and Flattening tools to

    model complex folded deposits.

MICROMINE PIT OPTIMISATIONPit Optimisation determines the most

profitable open pit given a mineral resource

and a set of economic and metallurgical

parameters. It provides an analysis of

stockpiles and costs over time. In keeping

    with Micromine’s philosophy of simplicity,

Pit Optimisation is logical, quick, and easy

to use, whilst at the same time, extremely

powerful and capable of handling very

    large models.

Data modelling is up to four times faster

because data remains with one application,

    eliminating the additional import/export

    step required with many competitive

    applications. Micromine’s graphical and

    analytical tools visually enhance data

    preparation and pit shell displays.

    Pit Optimisation supports sub-blocked

models and DTM surfaces. Inputparameters for mining costs and element

prices can be set up as functions, instead

    of constants, adding flexibility and

    versatility to the optimisation process.

MICROMINE SCHEDULINGMicromine Scheduling provides a smart,

integrated solution to assist short term

planning of resources to tasks over a given

period. It enables the optimum mineral

    extraction process necessary to meet

    corporate objectives.

    Integrated within Micromine, the

    Scheduling module eliminates the

requirement to import and export files

    with third party applications. Scheduling

    assists Mining Engineers and short-term

planners to plan and schedule material

extraction from underground and open pit

    environments. In keeping with Micromine’s

ease of use, the Scheduling workflow

    comprises five simple steps; prepare,

    configure, import and sequence, validate

    and report.

    TECHNICAL DATA: SCHEDULING MODULE

    INTRODUCTION

Many mining operations use a manual scheduling process combining generic spreadsheet and project

management applications. Although these tools are capable of getting the job done, they have shortcomings

such as lack of integration; managing complex formulae, importing and exporting files, version control and

    data integrity risks.

    Micromine SCHEDULING

The Micromine Scheduling module provides a smart, integrated

solution to assist short term planning of resources to tasks over

a given period of time. It enables the optimum mineral extraction

    process to meet corporate objectives.

Scheduling utilises the powerful mine planning and design tools

within the Micromine Wireframing module to generate a 3D block

model of the mine. The block models define the tonnes and grade

(quality) of the ore body represented as a three dimensional view of

the material to be removed and forming the basis of the subsequent

    production sequencing.

The information can be displayed against predetermined attributes and

constraints to provide both a visual and temporal schedule that defines

how each mining block will be extracted and over what period of time.

Micromine Scheduling overcomes the problems associated with

manual scheduling methods such as generic spreadsheets combined

    with project management applications including:

    • Maintaining complex formulae and equations associated with

    spreadsheets

    • Avoiding the often error prone step of importing mining blocks

and associated attributes from 3rd party applications into the

    spreadsheet

    • Overcomes the limitations of the Gantt chart facilities in applications

such as Microsoft Project®. Whereas these facilities do enable

diagrammatic representation of the Schedule, they are unable to

handle mining attributes such as tonnes, grades and equipment

    resources adequately

SCHEDULING key features include:• Fully integrated within Micromine - no requirement for manual

processes such as managing complex Excel spreadsheets and

importing and exporting files to third party applications

    • Creation of block models to map the resource

    • Provides sequencing, allocation of resources and time components

    • Provides integrated visual and animated 3D views of the schedule

using Vizex, the Micromine 3D environment

    • Provides temporal and dependency information in a Gantt

    chart window

    • Offers various reporting options including visual and temporal

    SCHEDULING key benefits include:

    • Schedules the extraction of material to meet production andeconomic targets

    • Automatically works out what material will be extracted to cost

    effectively meet targets

    • Calculates volumes and grades over user-dened time periods

    • Allocates resources

    • Calculates the time it will take to mine

    • Provides an ordered sequence of events

    • Provides both time (temporal) and visual (Micromine 3D) reporting

    • Is fully integrated within Micromine making manual scheduling obsolete

This technical data sheet describes the Micromine Scheduling Module.

Note: Micromine Scheduling requires Micromine Core and Micromine Wireframing modules.

Screen 1 illustrates the Scheduling data visualised in both Vizex and the

Gantt chart concurrently to show both temporal and spatial views.

    Who will use SCHEDULING?

Micromine Scheduling will be used by Mining Engineers and short term

planners who need to plan and schedule material extraction from either

underground or open pit environments to meet operational objectives.

    Micromine Scheduling Workflow

In keeping with Micromine’s renowned simplicity and ease of use, the Scheduling workflow is composed of 5 simple steps as illustrated below.

Screen 2 shows a complex schedule in terms of dependencies (visible in the

Gantt behind the dialog box) and the level of fine control over events shown

in the calendar for a resource with regular maintenance days and modified

    working hours

    Step 1

    Prepare

Create Mining Blocks as WireframesThe “pre-schedule” stage. Use tools such as Wireframe Extrusion, Wireframe Centreline to Solid, Wireframe Boolean, and Wireframe Cut to create Mining Block wireframes.

Assign Values like Grade and SG to the WireframesThe “reserving” stage. Use functions like Wireframe | Grade Tonnage Report Estimate or Wireframe | Attribute Assign or Grade Control. Optionally define the sequence

    using Wireframe | Assign.

Create New ScheduleSelect Scheduler | Schedule | New. This creates a Microsoft Access or SQL Server database and a subfolder for files used to support the scheduling process.

    Step 2

    Configure

Configure CalendarThe default calendar is a 24/7 operation. Use the Scheduler | Calendar function to modify the default calendar or add a new calendar. Multiple calendars are supported.

Define ResourcesIn terms of mining blocks, Resources represent the equipment used to extract material. Each resource has defined Work Rate. Rate ‘units’ are always time based -for example Tonnes per Hour. Alternatively, Tasks can be assigned a Default Work Rate. Exceptions, due to factors such as commissioning, maintenance or training, can be defined.

Define Attributes Attributes associated with a Task can be tracked, recorded and reported on. Typical attributes for a Mining Block are Volume, SG, Tonnes and Grade. One of theseattributes is called the Task Quantity. The Rate of the Resource(s) assigned to a Task, together with the Task Quantity, determine how long a Task will take to complete.

Define Task TypesTask Types are a way of grouping Tasks with the same Attributes. Once tasks have been imported (see below) they can also be grouped in the Gantt View.

    Step 3

    Import &

    Sequence

Import & Sequence Mining Blocks as TasksImport the mining block wireframes as Tasks, either interactively (using Vizex) or via the Scheduler | Tasks | Add Multiple function. Strings, digitised in Vizex, are aconvenient way to define sequences. Task Attributes can be mapped to Wireframe Attributes.

Finalise SequencingUse the Scheduling | Interactive | Resequence tools, or the Gantt View, to perform any additional sequencing. Use task groups to logically group tasks (for exampleinto pits, or levels, or drives, or panels).

Assign Resources to Tasks All Tasks (mining blocks) can be given a default Rate. For greater flexibility, Resources with Variable Rates can be assigned Tasks.

    Step 4

     Validate

Validate SequencingUse the tools in Vizex and the Gantt View to validate the schedule. Use colour coding to check Resource Allocations or Sequencing. Play an ‘animation’ to visualisethe process.

Apply Task Dependencies and/or LagUse the facilities in the Gantt View to assign Dependencies, or Lag, between tasks.

    Step 5

    Report

    Report on the Schedule

Report on Tasks, Resources and Attributes for given time periods. Export results into Excel for graphing and further analysis. In Vizex use the time based slider to visualise the mine at any future date.

    MICROMINE: SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

For optimal Micromine performance, your computer

system should meet the recommended configuration

requirements described in the table below.

Micromine uses the same behind-the-scenes graphics technology as most modern 3D games, which means it will run well on a

graphics system designed for 3D gaming. Ensure your computer has a powerful OpenGL graphics card capable of handling complex

    3D graphics.

We have tested Micromine extensively in various environments and advise against the use of a ‘business’ computer. These typically

come with a standard, low quality 2D graphics card which will compromise the output of the visual elements of the software package.

    Recommended hardware and software includes:

    (1) Micromine only supports the Windows operating systems mentioned in this flyer.

    (2) If you plan to run Micromine on Windows Vista or Windows 7, consider a computer with a Windows Experience Index 4 or higher.

(You can view this index by choosing Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System)

    (3) We recommend Windows Vista 64-bit or Windows 7 64-bit, with at least 6 GB of RAM for high-end large dataset work because Micromine

can access up to 4 GB of memory on a 64-bit operating system.

    (4) The more RAM the better. However, if you use Windows XP, Vista 32-bit or Windows 7 32-bit, Micromine can only access a maximum of 2 GB.

(All Windows programs operating under a 32-bit operating system have the same limitation).

    (5) This estimate is only for Micromine itself. You will need additional disk space for data. The exact amount required will depend on the size and

    complexity of your project.

    (6) Micromine relies heavily on the wheel button for interactive 3D view manipulation. Some mouse software assigns the wheel button to extended

functionality (for example, application switching), which is incompatible with Micromine. For maximum compatibility, ensure the wheel button is

    assigned the Windows default behaviour.

    (7) We recommend NVIDIA ® GeForce®, NVIDIA ® Quadra®, ATI Radeon™ and ATI FireGL™ cards. However, graphics cards are constantly

improving so please contact Micromine Support at [email protected] for the latest graphics card recommendations.

    (8) Unsuitable graphics cards cause the majority of incompatibility and instability issues within the current version of Micromine.

These are usually “onboard” cards that are built into the motherboard. For maximum compatibility, ensure your stand-alonecard complies with the OpenGL 2.0 (or later) standard.
