The Office of Information Technology would like to provide all end-users with a reference guide to

quickly show several changes between Microsoft Office 2010 and Microsoft Office 2016. Students,

Faculty, and Staff will continue to enjoy the latest technology upgrades along with many new features

that will allow all users to work more effectively and efficiently.

This Quick Reference will guide you from the old Microsoft Office 2010, through the new and improve

Microsoft Office 2016.

Word 2010 Vs. Word 2016

The Home Tab In Word 2010 and Word 2016 Home Tab, you will find similarities within the features and functions. One

of the main changes in this tab is the design.

The File Tab In the File Tab, you will see a difference in the list of options. There are similarities between the two, but

the design is completely different.

Insert Tab In this tab, you will find the same options but in a different style. In the 2016 version, more features

were added, such as, Store, My Add-ins, Wikipedia, Online Video, Online Pictures, and Comments.

Design Tab From the new Design Tab, you can choose from several styles how you want your document to look.

This includes the different selections under the Themes list

Layout Please note that some features located at the Layout Tab were moved to other tabs. Features such as,

Themes, Colors, Fonts, Effects, Water Mark, Page Color and Page Borders are now in the Design tab.

Review The Research option is now called ‘Smart Lookup’. The designs of all icons are also different. Now you

have the option to show or hide your comments after typing them.

versions are modified along with the icons.

Store, My Add-ins, Bing Maps, Online Video, People Graphs, and Recommended Charts were added to

the new office version.

Data In the Data tab, new features such as New Query, Show Query, From Table, Recent Sources,

Relationship, and Merge Data Model were added. Please note, that some of the old features are not

located in the same area as in 2010.

comments after typing them. Start Inking feature added in the 2016 version allows you to add freehand

pen and highlighter stroke to your PowerPoint work.

in the latest version.

Folder Now you can choose to view your folders in Alphabetical order by using the new feature ‘Show All

Folders A to Z’ option. The ‘View on Server’ function is also available, where you can see older messages

on Microsoft Exchange
