  • Dear Colleagues and Guests:The Mid-America Orthopaedic 2020 Annual Meeting will again be at the newlyrenovated Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort in Bonita Springs, Florida, April 22-26.The Program Committee has constructed another excellent program out of a record 711submitted abstracts. The meeting will continue the tradition of morning InstructionalCourse lectures, Plenary and Breakout sessions, poster sessions, and symposia onchallenging and varied topics. The regular meeting will offer 18.5 hours of CME. We willagain be co-sponsoring a Wednesday pre-meeting with the International Congress forJoint Reconstruction addressing problems in total joint arthroplasty titled: “Why Did ThisJoint Replacement Not Work Out as it Should? Avoiding Problems and Addressing EarlyFailures in Primary THA/TKA” which will offer an additional 7.5 hours of CME.

The sequelae ofmeniscectomy are well established, and the incidence of osteoarthritis in the population is only growing.The importance and cost effectiveness of meniscus repair has been described in the literature, but still only encompasses about 15% of all meniscus surgeries. This instructional course will evaluate the role of meniscus repair andreplacement. Discussion will focus on the following specific points: (1) trends in meniscus repair: key techniques,augmenting meniscus repairs, upcoming basic science, (2) difficult tear patterns: how to approach horizontal cleavage tears, radial tears, and complex tears, (3) the Root Tear Epidemic: who should we fix and how to get the bestoutcomes, and (4) time to transplant: patient selection and concepts for success.

    MAOA has been allotted “Run of the House” accommodations. This means that the special MAOA room rate willinclude rooms in all categories listed on the MAOA web site. Accommodations will be assigned at the time of check-inaccording to your reservation request. MAOA will also offer a special rate for Bay and Island Suites. These special MAOAgroup rates are valid three (3) days preceding and three (3) days following the meeting, based upon availability.

    Resort amenities program: The Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort charges a daily Resort Fee of $30.00 per room perday. This fee has been waived for all attendees of the MAOA meeting who are booked through MAOA Registration.The resort fee includes wired Internet, complimentary self-parking, golf bag storage, local telephone calls, 800/888telephone surcharges, DVD rental, guest internet access, resort trolley, beach ferry, and exercise facilities. Hyatt Hotels offer free wireless service to all guests in guest rooms and social spaces, and MAOA will be providing wirelessservice in the meeting rooms. How to reserve a hotel room: Visit the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association web site (www.maoa.org) to reserve ahotel room. If you encounter any problems making your room reservation, please call the hotel reservation department at877-803-7534 or the MAOA office at 507-281-3431.
