Middle School Jazz Club is open to all Band Students in grades 6-8. This afterschool club is designed to introduce
students to the foundations of jazz music and performance. We will learn jazz history, identify various styles, and
learn to improvise. This club is intended to expose students to jazz music at a level that prepares them for possible
participation in the High School Jazz Band.
While not intended to be a performing ensemble, we may learn jazz charts in small ensembles (depending on
instrumentation) for classroom use and demonstration.
Standard jazz band instruments include Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone and Rhythm Section; but this club is open
to all band students, regardless of instrument. Students who regularly attend may count this club as “practice time.” Mrs. Horton will initial practice cards on days they are in attendance to help with accountability.
If students are not picked up at 3:30, and choose not to practice in the band room afterwards,
they will be required to attend Extended Care until their ride arrives.
When? Tuesdays from 3:00-3:30pm
Where? RCS Band Room, Bell School Campus First Class: Tuesday, September 24, 2012 Who? All 6th-8th Band Students are welcome
