INTRODUCTION
Dear Parents,
It gives me great pleasure to present the 2018 Autumn Term Dulwich Prep London
co-curricular booklet. Once again this term, we will be offering the boys a wide range
of co-curricular clubs and activities that enable them to develop their social, sporting
and cultural abilities and to foster their own self-belief.
Participation in the co-curricular programme at Dulwich Prep London is strongly
encouraged, valued and inclusive and we hope that the boys will take advantage of
the clubs and activities on offer. The Middle and Upper School boys should be
looking to choose clubs that will incorporate a range of skills and help them work
towards their All Rounder Award.
This booklet contains a comprehensive timetable of clubs and activities that will run
during the Autumn Term which we hope will prove useful to you and your sons.
To register interest in any of the PAID clubs in this booklet, please use the Parent
Message Centre which can be found via the Parent portal on the school website.
https://dulwichpreplondon.myclarioncall.co.uk/login.php?centre=parent
The online booking will go live on Monday 16th July and will close on Friday 27th
July
Please be aware that membership of most of our clubs (apart from those which are
invitational) is for one term only to maximise the number of boys who can benefit.
Current members may reapply if they wish to join for a second term but should
understand that first time applicants will always be given priority. Please note that,
once enrolled in a paid club and offered a place, the fee is non-refundable, and boys
are expected to complete the ten week programme.
Lower School boys can apply ONLY for the following Middle and Upper School paid
clubs in this booklet: Chess, Thursday squash , karate, gymnastics and Thursday
climbing (Year 4).
You will be informed by the school of your sons club allocation. Please note that any
Middle or Upper School boys will definitely be able to find a place in a club running
until 5pm on any evening or he can attend Prep class in case this helps you plan your
childcare provision.
All clubs will start from Monday 10th September. Paid clubs will end on Friday 7
December, allowing for an 11 week course, whilst unpaid clubs will finish on
Tuesday 11 December.

CLUB INFORMATION
A Good Read This Year 8 occasional break time club meets throughout the autumn and spring terms to
discuss books that are thought-provoking, perhaps a ‘classic’, certainly ‘a good read’. Each
meeting is led by a different member of staff, and boys wishing to attend a particular
meeting should sign up in advance and undertake to read the book before
attending. Details of the books to be discussed and the dates for each meeting will be
emailed to Year 8 parents at the start of each term and advertised in the Library and
English Department.
Archive Club We have an interesting collection of documents and artefacts collected over the years and
the boys will be helping to preserve, label, catalogue and store these items up in the
Archive Attic. The club will run at lunchtime on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. With a
small space we can only accommodate 2 or 3 boys at a time so numbers will be limited.
Art Clubs
Art Scholars Programme
This club is aimed at those who completed last year’s programme. Boys will explore
how to develop ideas in depth, using the work of artists as an inspiration and carrying
out the appropriate experimentation to reach a final outcome. Year 8 boys will be
expected to dedicate a minimum of 3 hours of independent work per week, if they
are serious about applying for a scholarship. (10 Boys)
Artists and Art Techniques
Boys will respond to the work of different artists and explore a wide range of
materials and techniques. This club will be suitable for anyone wishing to build a
portfolio of personal work (some independent work to extend and refine the
techniques will be expected for those considering this option). (10 Boys)
Ceramics
Boys will explore a variety of hand building techniques and will produce a final
outcome based on a given brief. They will be encouraged to be experimental with
surface decoration and glazing. (10 Boys)
Bee Keeping An opportunity to explore the inner workings of the school beehive.
Big Band The Big Band’s reputation speaks for itself and the group is in demand both for school
concerts and local events. Boys from any year in Middle and Upper School may be invited
to join but it is usually a performance opportunity for boys in Upper School. The Band has
won awards at national level on many occasions.
Board Games Club: Getting BORED at break time? Come along to BOARD Games Club! Plenty of games to
choose from. Lots of fun to be had. (12 Boys)
Book Club Year 6 & Year 7 These clubs meet fortnightly and, as spaces are limited, are divided into two sessions, with
half the boys attending a breakfast meeting and the other half after school. We do different
things at each meeting - book swaps, discussions, debates or quizzes - and the only
criterion for joining the club is a genuine love of books and reading. Boys should speak to
Mrs Fletcher if they wish to join.
Calligraphy Club Calligraphy is the Art of Beautiful Writing. Boys will learn how to form letters with a
calligraphy pen and will be encouraged to create masterpieces of writing and illustration in
the form of cards, posters, poems etc. Boys are welcome to come along to a taster session
if they would like to find out more before committing! (6 - 8 boys)
Chamber Groups Depending on given strengths within sections or year groups, any number of small chamber
groups may be organised. String trios, quartets and quintets play alongside clarinet group
and cello group in a variety of concerts.
Chamber Strings Boys from Years 7- 8 may be invited to participate in this group which performs regularly in
a variety of styles.
Chamber Choir Boys from any year in Middle and Upper School may audition for our Chamber Choir

fundamental role in our annual carol services and choral festivals in Southwark Cathedral.
Tuesdays.

some text based coding e.g. Python. (16 Boys)

Bring quick feet and a good aim!

where we will focus on speaking, listening and interacting in French. This club is open to all
ability levels from beginner to native French speakers.

Years 7 and 8. Both bands play at all major Section concerts with repertoires ranging from
