COMMANDER’S REMARKS
Well, the holidays are upon us and once again the post will be busy. Please check the calendar for times, dates and try to
help. Events include community baskets for Christmas; the Christmas Parade on Dec 14th, the Lake City VA Hospital visit and
patient party and children’s and post adult Christmas party on Dec 22nd as well as the adult New Years Eve Party. Check the
enclosed calendars and flyers at the post. The VFW Department of Florida winter meeting is in Orlando in January, 2014.
Membership, membership, membership; let’s get your dues paid before 31 December and save $10. If you sign up a new
member as well before the 31st, you will get a free ticket to the gala New Year’s Eve party.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! “2013” is almost at an end but there is a lot of things to do beforehand! Christmas is getting close & food items are needed for the “Christmas Baskets”. If you are able to donate just drop it off in the Auxiliary room marked for “Baskets” no later than December 15th. We still need help with the 1st Tuesday “Poor Man’s” dinner, 3rd Monday “Fish or Chicken Baskets” & 4th Friday night Auxiliary dinners. If you would like to come & help or donate a dessert for any of these it would be greatly appreciated. We need some ideas on what to serve also. If you have a suggestion or idea please call me at (904) 282-2023, if home I will answer if not please leave it on the answering machine & I will call you back or email me at [email protected]. Our next general meeting for the LAVFW 8255 & Cooties “Middlebugs #86” will be on December 18th at 7:30 pm. We will keep the meetings short so we can enjoy our time socializing & enjoying the Christmas spirit. Please bring some type of finger food to share with all. We will not be exchanging gifts but please bring a Christmas card to hang on our tree enclosed with $7.00 to assist us with “Cancer Aid & Research”. Cancer, cancer, cancer is everywhere! Also don’t forget to pay your dues as soon as you can so you don’t lapse into 2014 & have to pay twice. On Saturday December 21st we will be making our trip to the Lake City VA Hospital for their “Christmas Party” from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. This really is a wonderful time to make the patient’s happy on a very special day. Dress up as a Santa’s Elf or a Clown or in a Christmas costume & watch the smiles on the faces of the patient’s when they see you! The “Adult” Christmas party at the Post will follow in the evening. December 22nd is the “Kid’s” Christmas party at the Post & don’t forget December 31st for the “New Year’s” party at the Post.
