PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE The weather is just glorious at the moment – I enjoyed spending some time in my garden over the weekend, with my kids excited to have planted some vegie seedlings. I hope you too have been enjoying the fabulous spring weather. With the weather warming up, it is certainly time for students to be wearing full summer uniform to school each day. I have been most impressed with the uniform last term and I am sure this will continue this term. It shows we respect our school and uniform, and is something we can be proud of. The start of term has brought some staff changes that I’d like you to be aware of. Mrs Norton had to leave us suddenly at the end of last term for an operation, and I’m pleased to report that she is recovering well from that procedure. Mrs Norton will be on leave for the remainder of the year, and so Mrs Judy Fisher has moved to take responsibility for 5/6S class. Mrs Fisher has lots of experience working with Stage 3 and it is nice to have her working fulltime with our older students. Ms Lyndal Matthews has joined us to replace the RFF classes that Mrs Fisher was previously doing. We welcome Ms Matthews back to our school and I am sure she will enjoy her days at Middleton PS.

Ms Sonia Davies is the Assistant Principal relieving for Mrs Norton during her absence. Ms Davies will continue to support the K-2 teaching staff this term and can assist parents of K-2 children if need be. Abigael Webb 5/6E

Thank you, Abigael for being a wonderful student to teach.

Your determination to succeed and your

commitment to being the best student you can be is quite impressive.

There never seems to be enough hours in the day to teach you – I feel that if school went for a few extra hours each day, that

still would not satisfy your desire for knowledge and I am extremely proud of

you for that.

I would like to commend you for the

mature responsible person you have

become.

You do a wonderful job as a leader of our

school and set a superb example for the

younger students.

Well done!

Intention to apply for Year 7 entry to a Selective High School in 2020 Dear Parent/Carer,

Selective high schools cater for high achieving academically gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level.

Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School Place-ment Test will be held on Thursday 14 March 2019.

If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2020, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).

Detailed instructions on how to apply online are now available at https:// education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7. The application website opened at that link on 9 October 2018 and closes on 12 November 2018. You must apply before the closing date.

There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Unit for assistance after 9 October 2018.

You must submit only ONE application for each student.

TALENT QUEST

Our Talent Quest Final at the end of last term was most entertaining and was a great success. All students at Middleton are to be commended on their behaviour and their support of their fellow students. The children who formed the crew (MC’s, backstage and sound) were very professional and carried out their roles so well. Congratulations to our Stage 2/3 winner, Indianna Kennedy, whose rendering of her original poem, “The Adventures of 3/4 DP" was quite stunning! The judges also awarded 2nd Place to Josie Jennings and Joey Setiawan for their great singing in “Castle on the Hill” and 3rd Place to Josie again, this time dancing with Ashlee Trim to “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”. Congratulations to these winners, and to all the participants. At the Final, while the judges were conferring, our Stage 1 winners Aliza Roberts and Jordii Ah-See performed their winning dance “Hula Hoop” and our 2 Highly Commended children, Oriire Ola and Rigby Milford performed their acts. Our judges were most impressed with the performers, the crew and the audience, so well done Middleton! We are very thankful for the commitment and generosity of our judges, Mrs Sherree Rosser, Mrs Kaye Lindsay and Mr Stephen McGrath. Mrs N Westgarth, Mrs Carolyn Butler, Mrs S Harris

Talent Quest Organisers

NO HAT, NO PLAY Teachers will be diligent in enforcing this important rule. Broad-brimmed navy school hats are the only acceptable hats to be worn. Hats are available from the office for $16.00.

Stage 2 Boys Cricket Team Last term our school participated in the Stage 2 Cricket Gala Day at North Parkes Oval. We sent two teams away. Our students played several games of Super 8s cricket and displayed great sportsmanship and skills. The two teams played very well throughout the whole day and both teams had great fun. Everyone is to be congratulated for being such great representatives of our school. Thanks also to our parent supporters on the day for transporting students and watching our games. It was greatly appreciated.

PCYC Parkes Term 4 Actives have started, it may also be your last chance to use your NSW Government $100 active kids' voucher.

Netball: Monday 5 pm

Basketball Tuesday years K-3 4:30 pm Tuesday years 4-6 5:15 pm Hockey Thursday 5 pm

We understand it can sometimes be hard to juggle

keeping kids active with work commitments and life

in general after hours. PCYC Parkes runs Out of

School Hours care from 3-6 pm. The town bus drops

your kids off at the front door where our staff are

waiting. We will give your kids afternoon tea, help

them with homework, do some arts and crafts then

take them to their chosen sport. Our service is fully

accredited meaning you may be able to claim

childcare subsidy.
