Milford Fire Department, I wish to extend my sincere
thanks and gratitude to the Township and Village
Officials, and to the community, for their continuous
support of the fire department.

The mission of the Milford Fire Department is to protect the lives and property of residents and visitors through:
� Public education in fire safety and hazard recognition.
� Diligent enforcement of modern fire prevention codes and laws.

2017
� We replaced our Hurst hydraulic cutters with new Hurst E-draulic cutters capable of cutting boron enhanced steel.
� We replaced our aging Hi-pressure airbag set with a new Vetter airbag system.
� We added Rescue 42 struts to our extrication equipment.
� All fire hose and apparatus ground ladders were tested and items passed.
� Ladder-1’s aerial ladder was inspected and recertified.
� All apparatus received their annual maintenance as well as a Federal DOT inspection and passed.
Department Accomplishments cont.
�All SCBA’s were function tested and recertified.� A recruitment & retention plan was implemented with
very good results.�We hired (9) new probationary candidates and put them
through the training program, with EMT training to be completed in February of 2018.
� We had (3) probationary trainees sworn in to the rank of Firefighter/EMT.
� FF/EMT Chad Scime completed the NFPA Fire Inspector & Plan Review series training and is now certified.
� A new tanker apparatus with the ability to hold 3,500 gallons of water was ordered from US Tanker.
Department Accomplishments cont.
�The Department’s social media pages are constantly monitored and continuously updated.
� Medical transports increased from (52) in 2015 to (109) in 2016 to (170) in 2017, a 327% increase!
� There was a re-distribution of task assignments among the Officer’s.
� Rescue-2 was sent out to be reconditioned and is due back in February 2018.
�Lieutenant Amy Goan was promoted to the rank of Assistant Fire Chief Amy Goan.

� Lieutenant Douglas Frantsen was promoted to the rank of Captain Douglas Frantsen.
� Firefighter/EMT Frederick Jones was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Frederick Jones.
� Firefighter/EMT Martin Cook was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Martin Cook.
� The Department became a BEES study site for the Epinephrine program in coordination with Oakland County Medical Control Authority.
� We conducted over 350 fire inspections of businesses.
Training Highlights for 2017
� Milford Fire Department is now hosting training which is open to all fire departments statewide.
� We hosted and taught a State of Michigan Fire Fighter Training Council approved Certified Pump & Aerial Operator class, with many Milford Firefighters attending the class.
� We hosted and taught A State of Michigan Fire Fighter Training Council approved Mutual Aid Tanker Shuttle Class, with many Milford Firefighters attending the class.
Training Highlights cont.� We are currently hosting and teaching a State of
Michigan Fire Fighter Training Council approved Fire Officer I & II class, with many Milford Firefighters attending.
� All of the State of Michigan Fire Fighter Training Council approved classes were put on with grant funding provided by the State Fireworks Fund.
� In 2017 Milford Firefighters completed a combined total of 5,511.25 training hours for both medical and firefighter related training.

Community Activities for 2017
� We participate in the annual Downtown clean-up.� We participate in the Concert in the Park Series and Movie
Night in the Park in Central Park.�We participate in Community Parades and Events.� We provide medical coverage for Milford Memories.� We provide water rescue support for the Blind Canoe Race.� We host our Annual Buck Wilson Pancake Breakfast.� We provide Fire Prevention and Community Education
Programs.� We host an Annual Fire Department Open House.� Milford Firefighter’s conduct the annual Goodfellow’s
Paper Drive, to provide for community assistance.

Future Department Projects for 2018
� Keep our Department progress moving forward.
� Refinish the front bay doors on Station 1.
� Maintain our level of staffing and shift coverage hours to continue to provide a high quality level of service to the community.
� Continue our program to replace and upgrade our existing hydraulic Hurst extrication tools to the new Hurst E-draulic tools.
� Purchase a new patient transport vehicle.
� Assistant Fire Chief Amy Goan will be attending EMU’s School of Fire Staff & Command.
