School Review

The school review for Milgate PS will take place in October. The teachers and leadership team have been evaluating student achievement data and curriculum programs across the last 4 years of the strategic plan. On the review dates, the school reviewer, who is independent from the school, will work with the review team of staff, school council and other Principal representatives to review the student achievements, data and curriculum. Then they will work on devising the goals for the new strategic plan which will provide the direction for the next 4 years.

Chinese Sister School Visit | 9 - 13 October ** Require hosting for 2 students **

Thank you to the families who have volunteered to host, interpret and provide food during the visit from our sister school. I had an email from the school saying that the 14 students and 4 teachers are looking forward to their visit. If anyone else would like to volunteer to assist please contact the school office or complete the form sent out on COMPASS.

Environmental improvements created by students and staff

Take a look at the area near the synthetic basketball courts where the environmental student leaders and teachers Steph Iacuone, Georgia McAllister and Carla Sacco have created beautiful small gardens in colourful tyres. They look fantastic and add to our school environment. Also take a look at the lovely garden area outside 1JJ where Jessica Jensen and her class have created a beautiful garden. Both of these areas look fantastic and add to the environment of the school. These areas have been created by students and staff. Thanks to all the staff and students who assisted with these areas.

Yours sincerely,

Debbie Mierisch Principal

Karlie Gooding Assistant Principal

David Mander Assistant Principal [Acting]

Outdoor Classroom Day | Thu 7 Sep

Last week our students participated in the global movement of Outdoor Classroom Day. Although not ideal conditions, it was fantastic to see so many students outside enjoying their learning.

GARDEN NEWS!

Over the last couple of weeks the Garden Club members, Environmental Leaders, and students from Year 2 and Year 4 have been working together to create some beautiful garden spaces around the school. The veggie patch is a constant work in progress and we have a few more veggies growing in there now. You may have also noticed the new brightening up of the garden beds outside the portables. There are some colourful tyre gardens that we will continue to water and care for.

One of our Year 5 students, Patrick, will be holding Gardening Club meetings on Thursday’s, where all students are welcome to come help look after areas of the school that need some care. Their main focus will be the Veggie Patch for now. We hope that you and your children can continue to help us look after our school grounds and keep our garden spaces looking great!

Special thanks to the staff that assisted with the painting of the tyres. Environmental Team Ms Iacuone, Ms Sacco and Ms McAllister

YEAR 2 | Speeches

Our Year 2 students wrote speeches about how they were going to help in the community. Everyone did a fabulous speech. They were assessed on their expression and voice level, body language, their organisation of their speech, content, length and their visual aid. Eight students were voted by their class to present their speech to the rest of Year 2.

From left to right these were: Rory, Thu, Steven, Ronan, Bonnie, Tristan, Elli and Angela. Ronan was voted 2017’s Year 2 Speech Presenter.

OFFICE NEWS

Newsletter Update We recognise that communicating with our school community plays such an important role in developing and maintaining student engagement. As such, we’re always looking for ways to improve our communication between school and home. In Term 4 you’ll see a new format for our weekly newsletter. This new format will enhance communications as it can be viewed on any device - great for today’s busy families. It also has the ability to be translated into over 100 languages – making it easy for families to stay in touch using their native language. We’re really excited about this new format and we’re sure it will really benefit our families.
