Military Honours Committee - Guide

Honours Committee

1.1 Authority The Military Honours Committee (hereafter abbreviated to MHC) derives its authority from the Chief of the General Staff (CGS) and the Minister of Defence (MoD) who divests the power of investing honours upon members and former members of the eUK Armed Forces down to the MHC.

1.2 Structure

1.2.1 Permanent

1.2.1.1 President of the Military Honours Committee

1.2.1.1.1 Description

The President of the MHC will usually be an experienced, time-served, loyal and dedicated senior officer of the eUK Armed Forces chosen and appointed by the Chief of the General Staff to organise, oversee and direct the awarding of medals, orders and decorations. A working knowledge of real life orders, medals and decorations should be a prerequisite. The President will be a full member of the MHC. The President of the MHC will be expected to combine this post with other duties.

1.2.1.2 Vice-President of the Military Honours Committee


The Vice-President of the MHC will be expected to be of similar ilk to the President and also usually a senior officer of the eUK Armed Forces. The Vice-President will be appointed by the President with the agreement of the CGS. The Vice-President will be a full member of the MHC.

1.2.2 Senior officers

1.2.2.1 Chief of the General Staff


The incumbent Chief of the General Staff (CGS) will be a full member of the MHC.

1.2.2.2 General Staff


All incumbent General Staff (GS) will be a full member of the MHC.

1.2.2.3 Major General Autobots


The incumbent Major general Autobots (MG A) will be a full member of the MHC.

1.2.2.4 Major General Technobots


The incumbent Major General Decepticons (MG D) will be a full member of the MHC.

1.2.2.5 Colonel Autobots


All incumbent Colonel Autobots (Col A) will be a full member of the MHC.

1.2.2.6 Colonel Technobots


All incumbent Colonel Decepticons (Col D) will be a full member of the MHC.

1.2.3 Political

1.2.3.1 Prime Minister

The incumbent Prime Minister (PM) will be an observer member of the MHC. This distinction is symbolic and in practice they can act just as a “full” member of the MHC can.

1.2.3.2 Minister of Defence

The incumbent Minister of Defence (MoD) will be an observer member of the MHC. This distinction is symbolic and in practice they can act just as a “full” member of the MHC can.

1.2.3.3 Additional political members

The President of the MHC, with the permission of the CGS and MoD, can invite additional members of the civilian government on to the MHC. This will usually only be granted when a former member of the military resides in the position of Under Minister of Defence (or similar). If appointed they will be an observer member of the MHC.

1.2.4 Special membership

1.2.4.1 Honorary member

Limited oversight exists for the selection of an “Honorary member” of the MHC. This will only usually be reserved for someone with extensive knowledge of the honours system either in-game or in the real world. There can only ever be a maximum of two honorary members and their appointments will usually be reviewed by the President of the MHC every month. They will have observer status on the MHC.

1.2.5 Conflicts

Due to the nature of the MHC potential crossover of some positions may occur for example the MG A could also be Vice-President of the MHC. If any conflicts do arise the MHC position shall take priority and a further member will be allocated to the branch in question. Positional conflicts will be remedied solely at the behest of the President of the MHC.

Awards

2.1 Victoria Cross (VC)

2.1.1 Eligibility

To be eligible for the VC the nominee must be an eUK citizen, eBelgian citizen or a citizen of a friendly nation as determined by the MoD, CGS or President of the MHC. The nominee must be a serving or former serving member of the eUK Armed Forces. There is no rank requirement for the VC. A minimum of one month’s service is required for the VC to be awarded.

2.1.2 Suggested criteria

The VC shall be awarded to any member of the eUK Armed Forces who not only consistently perform their tasks to the absolute best of their abilities but go far above and beyond what’s expected of them and show an extraordinary level of dedication and service to the eUK Armed Forces. The VC can further be awarded for a protracted series of significant sacrifices which has a drastic and positive impact on the eUK Armed Forces, which without their input, would have severely hampered the ability of the eUK Armed Forces to function.

2.1.3 Revocation

If a holder of the VC performs an act or acts which are deemed traitorous by the MoD and CGS then the award of the VC can be revoked immediately. If it is deemed that a holder of the VC brings the eUK as a whole or the eUK Armed Forces into serious disrepute through their actions then the award of the VC can be revoked after a vote of the MHC.

2.1.4 Multiple awards

The VC can only be awarded once; a second award of the VC cannot be made to the same person.

2.1.6 Post-nominal letters

A person awarded the VC is entitled to use the post-nominal letters VC.

2.2 Conspicuous Gallantry Cross (CGC)

2.2.1 Eligibility

To be eligible for the CGC the nominee must be an eUK citizen, eBelgian citizen or a citizen of a friendly nation as determined by the MoD, CGS or President of the MHC. The nominee must be a serving or former serving member of the eUK Armed Forces. There is no rank requirement for the CGC. A minimum of one month’s service is required for the CGC to be awarded.


The CGC shall be awarded to any member of the eUK Armed Forces who not only consistently perform their tasks to their best of their abilities but go above and beyond what’s expected of them for the betterment of the entire eUK Armed Forces. The CGC can further be awarded for a short series of sacrifices which benefit the entire eUK Armed Forces.

2.2.3 Revocation

If a holder of the CGC performs an act or acts which are deemed traitorous by the MoD and CGS then the award of the CGC can be revoked immediately. If it is deemed that a holder of the CGC

brings the eUK as a whole or the eUK Armed Forces into serious disrepute through their actions then the award of the CGC can be revoked after a vote of the MHC.


The CGC can be awarded a maximum of three times. An additional award of the CGC will result in a bar being added to the medal, and a rosette being added to the ribbon. The designs for which are held by the CGS, President of the MHC and Vice-President of the MHC and will be released when the first CGC and Bar is awarded.

2.3 Distinguished Service Order (DSO)

2.3.1 Eligibility

To be eligible for the DSO the nominee must be an eUK citizen, eBelgian citizen or a citizen of a friendly nation as determined by the MoD, CGS or President of the MHC. The nominee must be a serving or former serving member of the eUK Armed Forces. There is a minimum rank of Colonel for the DSO to be awarded. In addition a minimum of one month’s service is required for the DSO to be awarded.


2.3.2.1 Standard criteria

The DSO will be awarded to any officer of the British Army or supplier in the United Kingdom Special Forces who, throughout a sustained period, shows outstanding leadership.

2.3.2.2 Special criteria

The DSO will be automatically awarded to the General Staff upon appointment and the CGS if not already a holder of one of the above posts. In the event of The General staff and CGS being dissolved then the DSO shall be automatically awarded to all Military personnel of OF-8 and above. Former holders of the above posts will be given the award upon application to the MHC. The award will only be issued if they meet the eligibility requirements for the DSO and the MHC agrees through either the agreement of the CGS, President of the MHC and Vice-President of the MHC or a vote of the MHC.

2.3.3 Revocation

If a holder of the DSO performs an act or acts which are deemed traitorous by the MoD and CGS then the award of the DSO can be revoked immediately. If it is deemed that a holder of the DSO brings the eUK as a whole or the eUK Armed Forces into serious disrepute through their actions then the award of the DSO can be revoked after a vote of the MHC.


The DSO can be awarded a maximum of three times. An additional award of the DSO will result in a bar being added to the medal, and a rosette being added to the ribbon. The designs for which are held by the CGS, President of the MHC and Vice-President of the MHC and will be released when the first DSO and Bar is awarded.

2.4 Military Cross (MC)

2.4.1 Eligibility

To be eligible for the MC the nominee must be an eUK citizen, eBelgian citizen or a citizen of a friendly nation as determined by the MoD, CGS or President of the MHC. The nominee must be a serving or former serving member of the eUK Armed Forces. There is no rank requirement for the MC. A minimum of one month’s service is required for the MC to be awarded.

2.5 King’s Commendation for Valuable Service (KCVS)

2.5.1 Eligibility

To be eligible for the KCVS the nominee must be an eUK citizen, eBelgian citizen or a citizen of a friendly nation as determined by the MoD, CGS or President of the MHC. The nominee must be a serving or former serving member of the eUK Armed Forces. There is no rank requirement for the KCVS. No minimum service is required for the KCVS to be awarded.

The KCVS shall be awarded to any member of the eUK Armed Forces who not only consistently perform their tasks to their best of their abilities but go above and beyond what’s expected of them for the betterment of their branch. The KCVS can further be awarded for a short series of sacrifices which benefit their branch.


The KCVS will be awarded to the top suppliers of the British Army and SAS every month as directed to the President of the MHC by the MoD and/or the CGS. The KVCS will be awarded to a member of the eUK Armed Forces if they attain a battle hero (BH) medal after being tanked through government funds.

2.5.3 Revocation

If a holder of the KCVS performs an act or acts which are deemed traitorous by the MoD and CGS then the award of the KCVS can be revoked immediately. If it is deemed that a holder of the KCVS brings the eUK as a whole or the eUK Armed Forces into serious disrepute through their actions then the award of the KCVS can be revoked after a vote of the MHC.


The KCVS can be awarded an unlimited number of times.

2.5.5 Ribbon

A person awarded the KCVS is entitled to use the post-nominal letters KCVS.

2.6 Mentioned in Dispatches (MID)

2.6.1 Eligibility

To be eligible for the MID the nominee must be an eUK citizen, eBelgian citizen or a citizen of a friendly nation as determined by the MoD, CGS or President of the MHC. The nominee must be a serving or former serving member of the eUK Armed Forces. There is no rank requirement for the MID. No minimum service is required for the MID to be awarded.



The MID shall be awarded to any member of the eUK Armed Forces who consistently perform their tasks to their best of their abilities, usually after a period of one month or more, although this can be waived. The MID can also be awarded for persistent IRC or forum activity and dedicated service with-in their ship/commando/branch. The MID can further be awarded for individual acts of service and sacrifice to their branch.


The MID shall be awarded to the top suppliers of each branch every month as directed to the President of the MHC by the MoD and/or the CGS. The MID shall be awarded to members of the eUK Armed Forces who reach the rank of Colonel; on the proviso that they are currently serving and have a minimum of one month’s service in either the British Army or SAS.

2.6.3 Revocation

If a holder of the MID performs an act or acts which are deemed traitorous by the MoD and CGS then the award of the MID can be revoked immediately. If it is deemed that a holder of the MID brings the eUK as a whole or the eUK Armed Forces into serious disrepute through their actions then the award of the MID can be revoked after a vote of the MHC.


The MID can be awarded an unlimited number of times.

2.6.5 Ribbon

A person awarded the MID is entitled to use the post-nominal letters MID.

2.7 Upgrading The process of upgrading shall no longer take place. If a person already holds the MC for example and they have met the criteria to win another MC, there should be no pressure on the MHC to award them the CGC simply to acknowledge the previous MC. As all awards (aside from the VC) can be awarded more than once this should no longer be an issue.

2.8 New awards New awards are to be devised by the President of the MHC (with creative input from the Vice- President of the MHC) at the behest of the CGS and/or the MoD. They shall be added to this guide as and when they are created.

Nomination process

3.1 Nominations

3.1.1 Initial nomination

Nominations will be placed in the designation nominations thread using the following format: Name: Branch: Rank: Previous awards: Justification:* Self-assessed award:** *The justification for nomination shouldn’t be overly long, just a concise summary of why you think they deserve an award. **What award you think the person in question should receive.

3.1.2 Supporters

A minimum of two additional supporters (indicated by posting something indicating support) is needed for the award to progress to the next stage.

3.1.3 Personal thread

Once the President or Vice-President of the MHC sees that a person has enough supporters then a new individual thread will be created using the format “Player name - ?”. The thread will include the information used in the nomination post with the addition of a “Suggested award” section added by the President or Vice-President of the MHC.

3.1.4 Voting

Each personal thread will also include a poll option where MID, KCVS, MC, DSO, CGC and VC can be selected.

3.1.4.1 Voting – a note

Sometimes the justification for an award will fall outside or between the categories given in section 2. When this is the case try and adopt the ‘spirit’ of the categories when casting your vote.

3.1.5 Results

When a majority of the people have voted, the award agreed upon by the MHC will progress to the issuance stage of the process. If the vote is particularly close the President and Vice-President of the MHC will consult with the CGS and their branch head to discuss what level of award should be appropriate.

3.1.6 Housekeeping

When the award has been agreed upon then the personal thread will be locked and the topic will be changed to “Person X – (award)”. The thread will then be archived. Their name will also be added to the master list of awards on the forums.

3.2 Frequency A person can be nominated a maximum of once every award month.

3.3 Victoria Cross The Victoria Cross will usually follow the above procedure; however an alternative route for awarding the Victoria Cross also exists, usually when the person being considered for the award is also on the MHC.

3.3.1 Nomination

The President and Vice-President of the MHC will confer on IRC (or through other means away from the MHC forums) about the suitability of a candidate for the awarding of the VC.

3.3.2 Selection

Although done off forum the members of the MHC will still be polled in full by the President and/or Vice-President of the MHC.

3.3.3 Results

When the results have been collated and the President and Vice-President are happy that a majority of people support the award of VC then a special announcement will be made on the forums out with the standard monthly award list.

Award process

4.1 Wiki Upon being awarded an honour the person in question will be added to a list of recipients on the United Kingdom Military Honours Committee Wiki page. If the person has their own Wiki page then the President or Vice-President of the MHC will issue them with the requisite templates and update their ribbon block if present.

4.2 Forums Honours will be grouped into monthly blocks and announced by the CGS, President or Vice-President of the MHC as such on the forums, in a suitable General section.

4.3 Newspapers Honours will be grouped into monthly blocks and announced in the eUK Military Gazette (which will also have any news regarding honours and a full list of all awards given; if such a paper exists) and/or in the MoD newspaper.

Additional Footnotes

5.1 Betafoxtrot If at any point Betafoxtrot is given either the position of President or Vice-President of the MHC. Big-Joe Pryde has the automatic right to carry out any of the following actions

5.1.1 Coup

Big-Joe Pryde may have grant himself full control of the MHC with no notice required and will out rank the President of the MHC in all matters

5.1.2 Death

Big-Joe Pryde may require Betafoxtrot to quit playing erepublik

5.1.3 Resignation

Big-Joe Pryde may force Betafoxtrot to resign as president or Vice-President of the MHC as well as

resign from any military command position he currently holds until Big-Joe Pryde grants him

permission to again join either of the afore mentioned positions. If Big-Joe Pryde ceases to play

erepublik and only after the full death of his citizen plus 6 months down time Betafoxtrot

automatically regains the permission to hold any of the above positions.
