Do you or your family have any old, unused cell phones? Please consider bringing them in to be recycled! The phones don’t even have to work, and they can go to a great cause. November is Military Family Appreciation month - between now and Thanksgiving, bring in any old, unused cell phones to the office and Mr. Fisher will have them recycled. The proceeds will be donated to Cell Phones for Soldiers, so that soldiers overseas can talk with their families for free throughout the holidays. Thank you for your help in donating to this great program. RESULTS OF “CAN-WAR” - The Garaway High School student council recently held their annual canned food drive, and challenged the district’s elementary 5th and 6th graders to a “can war”! All cans were donated to the “Share-A-Christmas” program. We would like to thank all who brought cans in to donate to this worthy cause - unfortunately Miller Avenue did not win the ice cream party - Dundee Elementary won - congrats to them!! COLD WEATHER IS HERE!! The cold weather has arrived, so please be sure that your student is dressed appropriately for outside weather – we want to remind you that we hold our recesses outside if at all possible. LOVE MILLER AVENUE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL T-SHIRTS T-shirts are in and coming home today! “Thank You” to everyone who purchased LOVE Miller Avenue Elementary School t-shirts. The students are going to look great on our upcoming spirit days! We hope you will join us at The Pizza Parlor V for dinner on Tuesday, November 24th to help the PTO to celebrate our awesome families and school!

MILLER AVENUE’S NATIVE AMERICAN DAY Miller Avenue students participated in some special activities today - all events were to celebrate and learn about the life of Native Americans. Grades K, 1 and 2 took part in many activities, moving in groups to different stations throughout the morning. All grades went to listen to speaker, Mr. Mark Burgan, the father of Mary, one of our kindergarten students. He spoke on Native Americans in our area, housing, food, family structure and the English influence.

**Check out the next edition of the Husky News for pictures from this event.

On Wednesday, December 2nd @ 10::00 a.m., we are going to have a special storyteller and author, Mr. David Lorah, visit our school to share his book, “The Night Santa Lost His Pants” with all of the students. This will be extra special because part of the setting for the book is our own Miller Avenue Elementary School. We will be hanging up a pair of “Santa’s Pants” in our school and are asking for donations of items to give to children at Christmas time. The school-wide assembly will be our kick-off for collecting arts related items to give to

needy children. We are especially interested in receiving donation items relating to the arts, such as paints, pencils, harmonicas, and other art or music related items. The deadline for submitting items is Friday, December 11th. Let’s all pitch in to this worthy cause and help to fill “Santa’s Pants.” “BREAKFAST WITH BOOKS”

Miller Avenue Elementary School will be hosting “Breakfast with Books.” Parents/Guardians and Grandparents are invited to come have breakfast with their child/grandchild and shop with them at our Book Fair. Breakfast and shopping for Grades K-2 will be held on Wednesday, December 9th at 8:00 am and Grades 3-6 on Thursday, December 10th at 8:00 am. If you have children in different grade levels and want to attend only one day, please be sure to indicate on the RSVP which day you prefer. The cost of breakfast is $2.00 for adults. Students and siblings are FREE. If you are interested in attending this event, please fill out and return the RSVP that was sent home with your child and return it to school by Tuesday, December 1st.

Each student attending will receive one free book.
