‘I just wanted to say a huge thank you! Your brilliant workshop was inspirational. So many of the delegates commented on how it has made them question their own current classroom practice. They also mentioned that they will reflect on the points and questions raised during the workshop when promoting science enquiry with their own classes.’
Millgate House Education CPD courses are designed to meet the individual needs of groups, schools and clusters of schools. Our aim is to provide support that is quick and simple to implement, and makes a noticeable difference for teachers and learners.
We have developed and managed several national professional development programmes that have had a significant impact on teaching, learning and assessment in schools, in the UK and beyond. These include the ConCISE project, the Active Assessment project and the PUPPETS project.

Review : ‘This deceptively simple strategy transforms the way learners engage in their lessons and promotes more effective teaching, learning and assessment in science.’
Created by Brenda Keogh and Stuart Naylor, Concept Cartoons have been thoroughly researched in classrooms around the world. Simple cartoon-style drawings present learners with common misconceptions that generate discussion, promote science enquiry and develop understanding of science ideas. They are remarkably easy to use in the classroom as a part of normal teaching.
The book and CD contain 120 Concept Cartoons covering the main areas of science. Background text, written in pupil-friendly language, is available for each Concept Cartoon. This suggests possible follow up activities and explains the science behind the different alternatives and possible answers.

Maths on Fire
Review: ‘These puzzles really makes learners think, and what a challenge for them to try to create their own.’
Maths on Fire is based on the ever-popular matchstick puzzles. But there is far more to the puzzles than making shapes. These tricky little puzzles require lateral and creative thinking to find solutions. This makes them ideal for challenging learners in lots of contexts when teaching mathematics, and particularly useful for pupils who like to think creatively.
The book and CD has a collection of 66 engaging matchstick puzzles, generic questions to use with the puzzles, an A-Z of mathematical concepts, a guide to naming polygons and guidance on planning.
