    What Is in the Cave?

    Chapter 3

    Bob runs out of the cave onto

    the hillside. He cannot see thecup. It is lost in the rocks andsand.

    I am a wreck, says Kim. Batsand I do not mix.

    Bob says, How can we get thecup back? We will not see it if

    the sun sets.

    A thin ray of the sun hits thecup, and they see it shine in therocks by the sea.

    What luck, says Bob, and heruns to get it.

    Culminates in an engaging chapter story

    Bob picks up the cup andsays, Wow! This cup is madeof copper and jade! There is adate on it, too.

    He rubs the cup and sees thedate 1768.I bet this cup came from ashipwreck in 1768! Bob says.

    We can take it home in mybackpack.

    If this was in the cave, do youthink there are Kim stops! Hereyes open wide! She shakes!She sees a white, shadowyshape by the chest.What IS in that cave?
