OverviewThe management of the crowded space is perceived as a complex activity, however,

much of the theory and practice is based on simple concepts. Once you understand

these concepts, the development and delivery of management activities encompassing

the event can be planned and managed rather than controlled.

This short course is aimed at professionals who work with, or plan around, crowded

space at events. Most events where crowded space is an issue take place in anti-social

environments with high levels of noise, in close proximity to others and in a range of

settings, both indoor and outdoor.

After attending this course you will understand the fundamentals of managing the

crowded space and the theory and practical applications, which may alter according

to the environment.

From this short course you will learn to:

• Demonstrate theories and solve issues raised in the management of crowded space

• Appropriately define all aspects of simple crowd management theory

OverviewCrowds are present in everyday life and the safe management of them is a legal duty under the

Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, and its associated regulations, in the UK. In addition to

the legislative requirement, there are also moral and ethical reasons why we should plan for the

management of crowds under both normal and emergency conditions.

This Crowd Management Planning module is primarily aimed at those persons responsible for

the safe management of crowds, though it is also open to others who wish to identify the key

components of a crowd management plan and by doing so, be better positioned to review and

determine its suitability for a specific event.

From this short course you will learn to:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the key elements of a suitable and sufficient crowd

management plan.

• Synthesize routes, ingress, circulation and egress phases into a single document with

consideration for normal and emergency at each stage.

• Describe the relevant legislation associated with crowd management planning.

• Apply theoretical understandings to applications in practice.

• Evaluate crowd management plans to determine if they are suitable and sufficient.

• Formulate crowd occupancy, flow rates and exit requirements.

OverviewThis module provides the learner with the underpinning knowledge, skill and understanding

required to identify and react to threats and vulnerabilities that lead to crises, thereby learning

how to plan, prepare and respond to identified scenarios and risks.

The module will examine a number of high profile incidents and provide a number of examples

of how the issues could have been identified before an emergency occurred and how planning

can help mitigate the effects of such an emergency. A number of course participation exercises

will allow the learners to immerse themselves in practice and allows the learner to develop

their skills to make informed and robust decisions as a crisis develops into an emergency.

From this short course you will learn to

• Demonstrate an understanding of the differing types of crises and emergencies

• Understand the concept of operations in planning a response to a crisis

• Identify the elements of carrying out a risk assessment that identifies threats and

vulnerabilities and the utilisation of the specific terminology required

• Demonstrate, the skills and knowledge required to develop and implement a crisis

management plan

• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to run an operational readiness training

exercise
