introduction Rev. Patricia FarrisBrothers and Sisters in Christ, from the beginning of Christianity, Baptism has been seen as our entrance into the family of faith. We believe Baptism is an outward and visible sign of the grace of Jesus Christ. It is through this grace that we enter into a special relationship with Christ and are inheritors of the promise of eternal life. Those who receive this sacrament are marked as disciples of Jesus and are part of the fellowship of the universal Christian church.

presentation Michael Lamb, Lay LeaderI am pleased to introduce Caleb arChibald eskridge for Baptism.

those to be baptiZed (Questions to the Parents and Godparents) Rev. Farris

On behalf of the whole church, I ask you: Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you of new life in Christ, resisting evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves?

We do.Rev. Robert English

Do you believe in God the source, the fountain of life; and in Christ, the offspring of God, embodied in Jesus of Nazareth and in the church; and in the liberating Spirit of God, the wellspring of new life?

We do.

Kurt PolandWill you nurture this child in Christ’s holy church, that by your teaching and example he may be guided to accept God’s grace for himself, to profess his faith openly, and to lead a Christian life?

We will.

(To the Congregation) Michael LambDo you, as Christ’s body, the church, reaffirm both your rejection of sin and your commitment to Christ?

We do.

Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include this child now before you in your care?

With God’s help we will proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ. We will surround Caleb with a community of love and forgiveness, that he may grow in his trust of God, and be found faithful in his service to others. We will pray for him, that he may be a true disciple who walks in the way that leads to life.

Members of the household of faith, I commend Caleb to your love and care. Do all inyour power to increase his faith, confirm his hope, and perfect him in love.

UMCOR is preparing a response, working through local and international partners. Donations can be made through UMCOR Advance #982450, at www.umc.org.

Despite being in the center of where the earthquake hit, everyone that is living in the Unatti Home for Girls Foundation, which includes five employees and 20 girls (ages 4-20), is safe. Amid the devastation and destruction, a group of the girls handed out first-aid kits and cooked rice and lentils for the thousands of displaced earthquake survivors in their community. Debra Wollitz visited the orphanage just last month.

ChIldREN’S AFTER SChOOl ThEATER

Come see another exciting performance from C.A.S.T.! The 5th-12th graders present Fiddler on the Roof, Jr., one of Broadway’s enduring masterpieces. Set in the little village of Anatevka, this epic piece of theater tells the story of Tevye, a poor dairyman, as he tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of their small, tight-knit Jewish community of Czarist Russia.

The young actors revel in their parts. Nerea Cabana likes that her character “is independent, smart, nice, and gets what she wants.” Jenny Hudson’s favorite part of being in the show is “practicing scenes because watching everyone rehearse is extremely interesting.” Grace Hunzicker’s favorite part is the song Tradition “because it is a fun scene and it gives you an insight to that time period.” Owen Ing appreciates “how touching the story is.”

One of the adult volunteers, Emily Payne, said “I enjoyed working with the kids this season because I can see the maturity and growth in their acting abilities. Their portrayals of the characters in this show are uplifting!” Don’t miss the show!

Call for (Gently) Used BooksOn June 7, in conjunction with the church’s annual Summerfest picnic, The Missions Council will sponsor its first Used Book Sale to benefit Imagine No Malaria, and is in need of gently used books! Starting May 10, please bring as many stacks, bags and boxes of lightly used books as possible to the church office, to any Sunday worship, or call the church office to make pick-up arrangements.Friday May 8, 7 p.m., Saturday & Sunday May 9 & 10, 1 p.m. Simkins hall.

Nepal Relief EffortsUnited Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) continues to be in prayer with the people of Nepal and all who are affected by the earthquake.
