Indian Railways is the lifeline of the na�on and catalyst for India's progress and economic development. South Western Railway plays a significant role in the socio-economic development of Karnataka state. The Railway has been opera�onal from 1st April 2003 with headquarters at Hubballi in the state of Karnataka. 84% of SWR's jurisdic�on cover Karnataka. Southern & South Central Railways join hands with South Western Railway in contribu�ng to improvement of train service and development of Karnataka in the recent past. SWR has achieved visible milestones from the �me of its forma�on in 2003. A�er its forma�on, 345 km of new line, 598 km of GC and 521 km of doubling have been commissioned. 110 numbers of new Express/Passenger trains have been introduced. Apart from this, services of many trains have been extended and frequency of some trains has been increased for the benefit of travelling public. On the freight side, Railway has loaded 44 Million Tonnes during 2016-17.
The officers and staff of the Railways are vibrant and dedicated, ready to adopt to changing scenario of the transport sector and to fulfill the expecta�ons of the people of Karnataka. This booklet is aimed to list out some of the important ac�vi�es undertaken in recent past and current projects in the state of Karnataka. We seek your co-opera�on in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to maintain cleaniliness in Rail premises.

1.0 Infrastructure Developments In Last Three Years
A special thrust is being given to improve infrastructure by enhancing line capacity of Railway network in State of Karnataka. Tremendous progress was achieved in last three years in this aspect.

• The following sec�ons were commissioned with Doubling of railway track
Highlights of 2015-16 : • Commissioning of 70 km of major por�on of doubling between Guntakal – Raichur resulted in capacity enhancement. · • Commissioning of Doubling between Mysuru and Ramanagaram (Excluding. 1.5 Km) was major land mark. • En�re Doubling project of Hosadurga Road to Chikjajur has been commissioned resul�ng in comple�on of doubling between Birur & Chikjajur, two important junc�on sta�ons on mainline of Bengaluru- Hubballi .This helped in increasing throughput of the sec�on. • Doubling with Electrifica�on between Yesvantpur – Yelahanka and Yelahanka – Channasandra has helped in easing conges�on of Bengaluru area.

During 2016-17, 138 km of New Lines and 29 km of doubling have been commissioned in the state of Karnataka.

1.4.3 Highlights of 2016-17 : • It is a record commissioning of new lines in Karnataka in one year. • Long pending project of Hassan-Shravanabelagola-Nelamangala sta�on was completed providing direct connec�on from Bengaluru/Yesvantpur to Hassan instead of Via Tumakuru/Arsikere.

In 2017-18, 322 Kms of Track laying has been planned in the state of Karnataka which include 115 km of New Line and 207 km of doubling.
Railway has successfully carried out the extremely sensi�ve and challenging work of “Transloca�on of Tippu Sultan Armoury” (a 225 year old brick and mortar Heritage structure weighing 900 tonnes) by 130 mtr. in Mar. 2017 to facilitate balance 1.7 Km of Bengaluru - Mysuru doubling. Such a work has been executed for the first �me in India and probably in Asia.

• The frequency of 3 pairs of Mail/Express trains was increased from Tri-weekly to Daily and that of 1 Weekly train to Daily. • 6 nos. of Daily Passenger trains and one no. of 6 days a week Passenger train were introduced. • 4 coaches were augmented in Mail/Express trains.•Experimental stoppages for 8 Mail/Express trains were provided at 3 sta�ons.• 40 Special trains were run from Karnataka State to clear extra passenger rush. • 928 Extra coaches were a�ached to clear waitlisted passengers.
3.3 New trains, increase in frequency provided in 2015 – 16
• One pair of biweekly express Train No.11031/32 – Solapur - Vijayapur introduced.• 49 coaches were permanently augmented and 33 coaches were temporarily augmented in various trains. • Experimental stoppages for 10 Mail/Express trains were provided at 5 sta�ons • 20 Special trains were run from Karnataka State to clear extra passenger rush. • 1135 extra coaches were a�ached to clear waitlisted passengers. • Karwar-Madgaon DEMU service extended upto Pernem.

3.5 In addi�on, during 2016-17 • Frequency of service of one train was increased• Five trains were extended• Timings of five pairs of trains were revised to suit passengers • Stoppage provided on experimental basis for 45 trains at different sta�ons• 34 trains over SWR speeded up to reach /leave the sta�on• 4 trains were converted from conven�onal coaches to LHB coaches• 3 Railbus with conven�onal coaches were upgraded to MEMU.

4.5 Other than the above works, the following capacity enhancement works have been commissioned over last two years.

5.6 ELIMINATION OF LEVEL CROSSING GATES: Railway has taken giant leap in elimina�ng unmanned Level Crossings thereby enhancing safety in Train opera�ons. Priority is being given to elimina�on of unmanned LCs situated on main line with higher traffic.

'Customer' is the centre of all our ac�vi�es. Constant efforts are being made to take care of the needs of all segments of passengers and to ensure safe and comfortable travel. During last three financial years, Rs.134 crore has been spent for improving passenger ameni�es at sta�ons over Karnataka. The following addi�onal facili�es were provided for the convenience of the passengers.

I) Second entry at KSR Bengaluru has been commissioned to decongest the main entry to sta�on and to provide easy access from Northern side of the sta�on. Facili�es provided in new entry are booking counters, concourse area, vehicle parking.
Yelahanka new sta�on building has been constructed. Facili�es like concourse area, booking window, SMR room, Wai�ng halls, VIP longue, Pay & Use toilet, etc. have been provided.
Works like improvement to facade of sta�on building, improvement to circula�ng area/land scapping, provision of Pay & use toilets, provision / renova�on of wai�ng hall, etc. are planned.
II) New sta�on building at Krishnarajapuram. Provided 2nd entry from PF No.4 side Booking window, concourse area, wai�ng halls, parking space facili�es are provided.

7.1 On Board Housekeeping Services (OBHS)In order to improve the cleanliness of long distance Mail/Express trains during the run, OBHS has been implemented . Passenger compartments, coach toilets, doorways and aisles are cleaned by OBHS staff. 46 pairs of trains iden�fied in the jurisdic�on of Karnataka state have been provided with OBHS. SMS based passenger complaint redressal system of cleanmycoach.com has been introduced in important trains. The passengers can get the coaches cleaned by sending a SMS to helpline number . Cashless transac�ons can be made through Debit Card, Credit Card, e-wallets, prepaid cards, Mobile Apps like PayTM, Rupay, Bhim, SBI-UPI Apps, Aadhar based digital payment mode etc. at PRS, UTS counters and parcel offices etc.

children runaway/missing from their homes and found on pla�orms / trains. These children are then being handed over to various NGOs, Police who are therea�er reunited with their parents.
