Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

of Windlesham Golf Club held on

Monday 28th September 2015 at 19:00hrs.

1. Apologies for absence Apologies were received from Billy Field, Victoria Westgarth, John Burton, Kate Burton, Chris Jardine, Howard Somerville, Pauline Gibbs, Andrew Fraser and Chris Bell. 3. Matters Arising from the Minutes of the last AGM There were no matters arising.

5. Ladies’ Captain’s Report The Ladies’ Captain, Hilary Ashby, gave her report which is attached at Appendix 2.

6. Members’ Section Accounts for the year ended 31st August 2015 Copies of the Income and Expenditure Account and the Balance Sheet as at 31st August 2015 had been posted on the notice board prior to the AGM and copies were available at the meeting. They are attached at Appendix 3. The Club Treasurer, Graham Robertson, thanked Cher, in the accounts office, and Jo and the Pro

Shop team for making his life much easier. He then summarized the highlights in the accounts.

He said that, traditionally the Club Treasurer has reported to the AGM the financial position of those

areas that he is responsible for: Mixed, Juniors & Men’s; but that this has not included the Ladies’

section. For the 1st time the Ladies’ section finances are included, but they were not included in the

audit, which hopefully explained why we have Members’ funds being the sub-total of the audited

figures and the use of the term Combined funds after including the unaudited Ladies’ numbers into

the total. The Ladies’ accounts have not, in the past, been reported on the same accruals basis and

so there are no comparatives for the previous year.

Income & expenditure account:

The Mixed Funds showed a surplus for the year of £39 against a deficit of £116 last year. Items of

significance included a routine competitions surplus of £228 (£132 in 2014) and a special

competitions surplus £74 (£42 in 2014), the details of which are in the Notes to the Accounts (note

3) which are attached at Appendix 4.

Routine competitions also included the Club Championships. After excluding the gross income for

that event, Mixed income for routine competitions fell 11% from last year.

Other expenses of £265 were made up from £250 (members’ contribution to wine & snacks after

this meeting ) and £15 for stationery.

Juniors’ Funds: Traditionally the loss incurred each year has been funded by Men’s funds, last year

that loss was £96. This year the Juniors, having increased their match fees to cover the cost of their

food, have delivered a surplus of £113.

It has come to my attention that the numbers reported in the past few years has only included

matches and not internal individual competitions. The income and expenditure for that has been

accounted for within the Academy. I have spoken to Lee Mucklow about reporting that part of the

Juniors’ activities in these accounts in future. That discussion has yet to reach a conclusion.

The Men’s funds surplus of only £1,017 seems very low when compared to last year’s £2,547.

However last year’s surplus was artificially boosted by £1,008 from 2 one-off accrual removals; so

this year’s surplus is approximately £500 lower than last year.

Routine competition income has increased 7% on last year, but the surplus is lower due to the

decision taken by the Men’s Committee to increase the prize pot in the Summer & Winter Knock-

outs from 40% to 60%, while still leaving enough to cover the costs of the replica trophies and

engraving.

Page 3: Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL ... - Windlesham Golf Club · Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of Windlesham Golf Club held on Monday 28th September 2015 at 19:00hrs

Special competitions surplus of £29 arose from the Men’s Invitation Day; an improvement from the

£70 deficit from the same event last year. Inter-club matches have delivered a surplus of £169 (£79

in 2014)

The social function deficit of £184 arose from the decision by the Men’s Committee to hold an Open

Evening to provide information of matches with other clubs with drinks provided. There is an

intention to hold a similar event again early next year.

Ladies’ funds: Jacqui Cawley deserved congratulations for the amount of time that she devoted to

the Ladies’ accounts in her first year as Treasurer. Jacqui managed to get the accounts onto an

accruals basis and enabled the Ladies’ section to understand better where the surpluses and deficits

arise. Although the year saw a deficit of £191, this was after taking expenses of £664 relating to

prior years, and the Ladies now seem to be operating at a sustainable level.

The Balance Sheet:

The net funds at 31 August 2015 stood at £1,053 for the Mixed, £113 for the Juniors, £11,625 for

Men’s funds and £956 in Ladies’ funds. Graham Robertson said he was not responsible for the

Highwaymen’s accounts, but had been advised that at 31 August the Highwaymen’s Net Funds were

£1,820.

CHARITY

Graham Robertson reminded the meeting that the members’ charity was more formally established

by Richard Tear and himself in 2013 with a Trust Deed registered with the Charities Commission.

The trustees of the “WGC Charitable Trust” are not the same as those of WGC and the first trustees

of the Charitable Trust were Richard Tear, Graham Robertson, Alison Lavis & Graham Woodfine.

With changes over the past 2½ years, the trustees of WGC Charitable Trust are now Graham

Robertson, Richard Tear, Pat Dowsett, Andy Fielding and Peter Lumley. They ensure the separation

of monies raised specifically for the Scholarship Programme and those raised for the Captains’

Charity.

Once again there has been tremendous generosity from the membership. Thanks to Henry and

Sheena Lumley’s provision of a trip to the Masters, the raffle raised £11,312. And thanks to the

assistance of Emma and Russell Acton the club was again able to run the Corporate Charity Day,

raising £15,000.

The Captains’ Charity Day raised £5,800; the Ladies contributed £4,570; the Highwaymen £1,000 and

the Juniors £1,400 – this latter figure appears to be high because last year’s Junior Charity Day also

fell within this reporting year. The Bridge Club also raised £800.

Many others have shown their generosity, bringing the total raised this year for the Scholarship

Programme to £13,400 with a further £28,126 being raised for the Captains’ Charity, bringing the

total to an amazing £41,526 – he congratulated the members on raising this sum.

The proposal that the Members’ Section Accounts for the year ended 31st August 2015 be adopted

was proposed by Andy Fielding, seconded by Hilary Ashby and passed unanimously.

Page 4: Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL ... - Windlesham Golf Club · Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of Windlesham Golf Club held on Monday 28th September 2015 at 19:00hrs

7. Election of the Honorary Auditor

The resolution that Chris Jardine be re-elected as Honorary Auditor was proposed by Graham Robertson, seconded by Chris Pritchard and passed unanimously.

8. Accounts of Windlesham Golf Club Tony Trueman reminded the meeting of the basis of the agreement underlying the unincorporated Windlesham Golf Club accounts. He pointed out that one of the big changes this past year had been a 3% growth in the membership numbers, particularly the intermediate category. The philosophy of continuous improvement within the club and the long-term vision of building a sustainable WGC brand entity had contributed to this growth and to the increased loyalty of its members. He agreed with a question from Derek Thomas that it would be helpful in future for the accounts to be made available to the meeting before his presentation. The accounts are attached at Appendix 5.

9. Management Report by Peter Lumley Peter Lumley began by thanking the outgoing Captains for their support in maintaining the partnership approach which has signified the working relationship between WGML and the golf club for several years now. He outlined the progress made over the past 12 months in the context of WGML’s aim of continuous improvement and philosophy of obsessive perfectionism. He likened this to the similar perfectionism shown by members in trying to improve constantly on their ability to get the ball from the tee down the fairway and into the hole in as few shots as possible. He mentioned the living document by which all areas of activity are constantly reviewed as of major influence in pursuing this aim. He then gave a detailed analysis of the work done over the past year and the plans for the next 12 months. His slides are available on the website at http://www.windleshamgolf.com/2015/09/annual-review-and-update-to-the-windlesham-membership-2015/. Peter Lumley singled out as a principal highlight of the year the attainment of the Golfmark Club of The Year Award which had given the club enormous pride. He also made reference to the participation of WGC in a forthcoming pilot programme being run by Surrey Union and England Golf to encourage more women into the sport and promised to report back on this programme next year.

10. Election of Trustees The Club Captain thanked Richard Tear for his service as a Trustee as his term had come to a close. Among his many achievements in support of the club, Richard had been instrumental in the development of the Charitable Foundation and deserved the thanks of all members for his contribution. He proposed that Hilary Ashby be made a Trustee for the next two years; this was seconded by Evelyn Somerville and endorsed unanimously.

11. Election of Captains and Vice Captains The following were elected unopposed for the 2015-2016 season: Club Captain and Men’s Captain: Chris Pritchard – proposed by Andy Fielding, seconded by Carl Riches; Ladies’ Captain: Gill Wood – proposed by Hilary Ashby, seconded by Evelyn Somerville; Men’s Vice Captain: Mick Archbold – proposed by Chris Pritchard, seconded by Graham Robertson; Ladies’ Vice Captain: Victoria Westgarth – proposed by Gill Wood, seconded by Evelyn Somerville.

Page 5: Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL ... - Windlesham Golf Club · Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of Windlesham Golf Club held on Monday 28th September 2015 at 19:00hrs

A consequential resolution that Chris Pritchard be appointed as signatory to the members’ bank account in place of Andy Fielding was proposed by Graham Robertson, seconded by Andy Fielding and passed unanimously.

12. Elections to the Committee There were three vacancies on the Committee, arising from the completion of Graham Robertson’s

three-year term of office and the elections of Mick Archbold and Victoria Westgarth to the Vice

Captains roles. Graham was standing again as members’ treasurer, Tiku Patel had been proposed by

Mick Archbold and seconded by Chris Pritchard and Lee Wood had been proposed by Chris Pritchard

and seconded by Mick Archbold. All were elected unopposed.

13. Any Other Business

One item of AOB had been submitted according to the rules governing the AGM: Chris Dalton 'What

is the management of Windlesham Golf's intentions with regards to providing a defibrillator for the

club? As you are aware this facility is available at many clubs/sports venues locally and nationally

and is considered by many to be a valuable health and safety addition that should be made available

to all clubs such as Windlesham Golf.’

In response, Stewart Judd said that this was currently under consideration but that further

investigation on the quality of the equipment and the training and maintenance required was

needed before making a decision. Chris Dalton expressed his concern that this was taking too long

and, as other clubs had proved, could be installed quickly. Stewart Judd replied that it was important

to make the right decision and there were important implications which had to be taken into

account. In response to further pressure from members, he reiterated that WGML was viewing this

positively and was keen to install a defibrillator, but those implications had to be investigated before

going ahead. He promised to report back to the members as soon as those investigations had been

completed.

14. New Captains’ Addresses

Chris Pritchard gave his address which is attached at Appendix 6 and invited Gill Wood to give hers

and this is also attached at Appendix 7.

Andy Fielding closed the meeting after thanking all members attending for their support and wished

the new Captains luck for the year ahead.

APPENDIX 1

The Club Captain’s Report – 2015

Over the last few weeks the frequent question to me has been, Andy have you enjoyed the year -

how’s it gone.

The answer is it has gone very quickly. It’s mainly involved playing a lot of golf with good people on a

very good and improving golf course and it’s been assisted by very professional people on the

Committees in the Proshop and in the Office.

It’s been a stretch I can tell you.

It’s involved a number of highlights.

Last year I talked about recent golfing success for the Ladies and the Juniors. But mentioned that the

Men needed to get their fingers out.

Digits were extracted.

The Men’s Scratch team of 5 reached the semi-finals of the Surrey Scratch competition. Missing out

on the final by a match that went to extra holes.

The 90s League Rabbits Team missed out on the championship by just one point.

But the accolades go to the Tigers Team who won their first Championship for 14 years with 2

matches to spare and eventually went through a 10 match season undefeated.

Thanks to the Team captains Dan Ryan, Denis Murdoch and Malcolm Wells respectively.

And in fact thanks to all the participants, captains and organisers of all the Club’s teams be they

Men’s, Seniors, Mixed or Ladies teams.

The many large golfing events – the Drive-In, Charity Day, Turkey Trot, Finals Day and the Invitation

Days were well attended and generally played in fine weather. Many thanks to all the organisers –

far too many to mention by name.

The Club Championships weekend was a stand-out event for me. It was a new arrangement with the

Men’s and Ladies’ Championship being held concurrently on the same weekend. We learnt a lot to

improve on the event for future years but I think the main learning point was that you can change

something and actually make it better.

Congratulations to Victoria Belchamber and Sam Storey our 2015 Champions. And also to Jonathon

Hedges, who won the Anniversary Bowl.

In January the Junior Presentation evening will live in the memory. Always a great evening to

celebrate our successful Junior Section, it was graced this year by the attendance of Paul McGinley,

Ryder Cup Captain and he brought along with him a small metal briefcase the contents of which was

Page 7: Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL ... - Windlesham Golf Club · Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of Windlesham Golf Club held on Monday 28th September 2015 at 19:00hrs

the Ryder Cup itself. They tell me there are 3 or 4 Ryder cups in existence but what the hec it looked

like the real one to us.

Beyond the golf we had a number of successful social events, the New Year’s Eve Ball, Bollywood

Night, the Quiz Night and many more. I remember most of them all as well-run fun events and the

one’s I don’t remember so well I’m assuming I had a great time.

Congratulations to Windlesham Golf for winning the GolfMark Club of the year in recognition of its

excellent arrangements for not only Junior golf but for beginner golfers of all ages. Well done

WGML, well done Lee Richard and Ben. And well done to all in the club who have helped support the

junior teams and events.

Golf is a sport and any sports club worth its salt looks to the future and the sustainability of its sport.

We knew we did that well here. Now everyone knows how well we do it.

A part of the year for Hilary and I as Captains is to support the Club’s Charitable Trust and in

particular our chosen charity Disability Initiative. You will hear later of how much your generosity

and the generosity of the many people who but gave of their time to organise events that supported

the charity or made donations to support the various raffles and auctions we had throughout the

year.

Thank you very much for your consideration of and contribution to the charitable objectives of the

club.

I wish to thank all the members of the Committees. Thanks to Chris my Vice –Captain and to Hilary

Thanks to all those of WGML particularly to Jo and her team in the Proshop and to Lara and her team

in the office and in the clubhouse. And to Alastair for the superb presentation of the course.

Many best wishes to the incoming Captains. Have good times, fine weather and further progress.

This is the culmination for me of 5 years on the Main Committee and I have seen the relationships

with WGML develop to one of real partnership. Yes, there are the commercial pressures and yes, we

certainly don’t always agree. There are still things to improve. I welcome the introduction of the

weekly newsletter as the focal point of updating members but there are still some further initiatives

to pursue in better member communications.

This time last year I talked about a golf club being more than a place to provide sport and

competition. It can be a place where you can discover and build new friendships. A place to escape

and relax. I said that I did not have a set of specific goals and targets for the year. Apart from one.

That in 12 months’ time this club will have maintained a generosity of spirit, its adherence to the

values of sport and its sense of fun.

I believe it’s still there if not stronger.

I’m reminded of the theme tune to a 1980s TV show

Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name.

And they’re always glad you came. CHEERS

LADIES’ CAPTAIN’S REPORT 2015-09-28

It has been a great honour and privilege to be the Ladies Captain of Windlesham Golf Club and I have

received an amazing amount of friendliness and support from everyone during this year.

There have been many highlights throughout the year and one I am very proud to have achieved is

the rescheduling and format of the Ladies’ Club Championships. My committee and I felt this was

the right time to make the major change and to hold our Club Championships on the Club

Championship weekend, this being a positive move to develop the ladies section with a long term

strategy and to encourage and accommodate the ambitions of the next generation of lady golfers. I

would like to thank WGML and the main committee for their support in achieving this change.

The Club Championship Weekend 4th/5th July was therefore an exciting weekend of competition for

the ladies and I congratulate Vicky Belchamber on becoming our Ladies Champion 2015.

Looking back I can’t believe how quickly this year has flown past, the ladies have packed an

incredible amount into this year as always. Our matches with the Highwaymen, the Tuesday Boys,

the Juniors, the Lileith Skee Memorial Day, The Ladies Charity Day, The Spring Meeting, The

Invitation Day, the Autumn Meeting, the Friendly matches, the Winter league, the Fun Competitions,

the Knockouts, the Medals, the Stablefords, the Away Days, an Exchange Day and that’s before I

mention all the External events we enter. The Centenary Bowl, the Druce, the Derry Cup and Helme

Sheild, the Pearson Trophy, the Windlesham Cup.

My thanks go to all the organisers, all those who have taken part and a special congratulations the

all the winners.

I presented my Golfer of the Year Award to Jacqui Cawley. Our Treasurer, who has worked tirelessly

throughout the year and has produced a very comprehensive spreadsheet detailing every event in

the ladies’ calendar. She has also worked together with Graham Robertson, the club Treasurer, to

organise the Ladies Accounts, and cut her handicap by 6 this year, congratulations.

Good communication is one of the things I wanted to achieve this year so to keep all the ladies

informed of all the happenings within the club I sent out a light hearted and informative monthly

newsletter, and my competition secretary sent out a monthly newsletter giving results and details of

future competitions. These have been very well received.

Page 9: Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL ... - Windlesham Golf Club · Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of Windlesham Golf Club held on Monday 28th September 2015 at 19:00hrs

My competition secretary also master minded the Competition Evening where all ladies were invited

to attend and where Lynn detailed all the competitions available to the ladies throughout the year.

The Charity Andy and I chose to support this year was Disability Initiative and I thank all of you who

have so generously supported us, I know that Lucy Brown the Chief Executive of DI will be greatly

humbled by the amount we have raised this year.

On my Ladies Charity Day I invited some of the Clients from DI to meet and chat to the ladies playing

– I will never forget the faces of two of them, both young men, who before their life changing

accidents were golfers, and were given the opportunity to play 3 holes of golf on that day. We made

their day!

The ladies section also support the Girl’s Scholarship Fund, congratulations on the achievements of

these young ladies.

Estelle Ingram has played in various Rookie Tour Events and is currently standing 3rd in the Rookie

Tour Order of Merit. She has reduced her handicap from 31.5 in August to 15.6. Estelle also won the

Surrey Schools Girls Championship by 8 strokes at Woodcote Park.

Emma Russell reduced her handicap from 33 to 24 – she scored 45 points in the Junior

Championships.

Ellie Monk, aged 10, played in Wee Wonders in Scotland and has qualified to play at Pinehurst, in

America, next year. Ellie also qualified for the finals of the academy Match Play Competition

reducing her handicap from 31 to 24.

Sarah Mardani reduced her handicap from 40 to 27. She won the 90’s League Girls Championship at

Sandmartins.

Katherine Russell has maintained her handicap of 32 through the year.

News of previous Scholars:

Georgia is currently playing off 14.

Vicky is at University.

Sarah Wilmore, now with a handicap of 6.5, plays as much as possible in schools events & has

represented Surrey in Junior County Week and played in all the Ladies Surrey County second team

matches this year.

I am pleased that with a little help from the ladies section these young ladies are achieving their

goals. They are an inspiration at us all.

I had a recurring theme throughout my year - Cakes.

Page 10: Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL ... - Windlesham Golf Club · Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of Windlesham Golf Club held on Monday 28th September 2015 at 19:00hrs

I set myself quite a challenge when I made 90 individual cakes to give out to all the Ladies at our

Christmas Dinner and then for my Ladies Captain’s day I gave each of the 18 holes a different cake

name and then everyone had a chance of winning a cake for each hole. My apologies if all the ladies

have put on weight this year!

I have so many people to thank for all their help and support this year.

Henry and Sheena Lumley for their very generous donation of the ‘Trip for 2 to Augusta’ which

raised a considerable amount of money for our Charity.

Our Club Captain, Andy, and all the members of the main Committee who have been so supportive

and encouraging this year.

My committee and the Past Captains who have advised and encouraged me .

Jo and her team in the Pro Shop, who have lightened my load considerably.

Lara, Jules and Paula in the office who have been outstanding with their help.

Alastair and the greenkeepers who get up at crack of dawn to present our beautifully maintained

course.

The pros for the ladies clinics and a special thank you to Richard for playing the Pro / Captain

Challenges with me and raising money for our charity.

Erik and his team and all the kitchen staff behind the scenes.

And lastly, but by no means least, all the ladies who have supported me throughout this year.

It has been a truly memorable year for me and one I will remember with great affection and pride.

I wish Gill and Chris and their respective committees every success in the coming year – have a

wonderful year!

CLUB AND MEN’S CAPTAIN AGM ADDRESS 2015 Good evening everyone and thank you for coming along to tonight’s meeting. I appreciate the bar is probably beckoning by now so I promise not to go on too long..... Firstly, I would like to Congratulate Andy and Hilary on their fine year as Captains, it’s been a real pleasure to work with you both. Andy and I have spent a lot of time together over the last 12 months during which time we’ve played an awful lot of golf – and at times a lot of awful golf! I’ve been lucky enough to learn some welsh along the way –I call him Boyo and he calls me Butty – initially I was slightly concerned that Butty was a reference to a tasty sandwich but Andy assures me it’s welsh for Mate. Thankfully we continue to be Boyo and Butty even after the England Wales rugby result over the weekend – such is the spirit of that sport. Seriously Andy, my vice captain year has been a good experience all round so many thanks for your excellent company, it’s much appreciated and we’ve had some good fun. I mentioned rugby and it’s fair to say that particular sport has played a big part in shaping my life – it’s a game I played for the best part of 20 years. Rugby and golf have much in common....... They are both physically and mentally demanding sports requiring skill and expertise That skill and expertise is developed through dedication, training and practice – on that note if you need directions to the range Paul Carter is your man... Both games teach the importance of respect and consideration for team-mates and opponents alike Each sport is played with balls that have an incredible affinity to go off in completely the wrong direction just when you least expect it However, both games provide a wonderful opportunity for social interaction and enable new and longstanding friendships to be forged. For me, it’s been a real pleasure to get so involved with the game of golf and the people who play it, particularly at Windlesham golf club. As a complete novice to the game, I was made very welcome when I joined here some 10 years ago and quickly made to feel part of the scene. The friendship and camaraderie within this club is something to enjoy and to nurture and that spirit of fellowship is a quality we should continue to recognise and value, particularly as the club becomes more successful and more people are attracted to join – and therefore I really feel the integration of new members is an ongoing and important responsibility for us all. As Andy mentioned the weather has been splendid for just about all of the great social and golfing occasions we’ve had over the past year and the course has been in great shape - all credit to Alastair and his crew – we’ve said that so often over the last 12 months. I too would also like to mention the inaugural combined Men’s and Ladies Club Championship weekend as that really was a highlight this year and fantastic couple of days with a great finale on the Sunday evening – a very positive step forward in terms of the evolution of the club. Organising these types of events throughout the year basically comes down to excellent teamwork and it’s important to recognise and remind ourselves of the people involved in helping to bring about these occasions – it really is quite amazing.

Page 18: Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL ... - Windlesham Golf Club · Minutes of the 21st ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of Windlesham Golf Club held on Monday 28th September 2015 at 19:00hrs

There are teams within this club everywhere you look – not only is there the main club committee and section sub committees, but flowing from there, a huge number of golf teams representing the club internally and externally across all the sections. There is also of course the club’s management team, the events team, the pro-shop team, the course management team and the bar and catering team – everyone plays a part. The point is, I see this club as one big team working together to make it an enjoyable and really special place to be and Gill and I will be looking to ensure that important team ethic continues in our Captains year. Also in the coming year we will continue to work closely with the management team on all aspects of the golf club, and that will include identifying opportunities for positive change, and introducing such change where and when it’s considered appropriate and beneficial. We have a good relationship and working partnership which is not only essential for the future development of the club generally, but also provides a healthy forum for open and honest discussion on issues relating to the golf club. We recognise that within any club environment good communication is absolutely key, so in particular we will be looking to review existing processes, in conjunction with Stewart, to help ensure they meet the demand for clear, effective and timely information for members on all club activities. On the golfing front, our pedigree as a club is generally in a good place and our handicaps continue to travel well to all types of courses. We have had some excellent results this year however, I’m absolutely sure there’s plenty more in the tank - I’ve never known a more keenly competitive group of people than members of Windlesham Golf Club so I hope we can build on the successes of this year and get some more notable wins under our belt. I was pleased and proud to play a small part in the winning and unbeaten men’s Tigers team this year, however, to achieve that outcome, we needed a squad of 21 people in order to regularly put out a team of just 8, so it’s vital that we encourage commitment and participation from players to achieve success – and I’m sure we can do that! In optimistic anticipation of success, we will consider ways to more visibly recognise and acknowledge individual and team achievements in an appropriate and public way. I think it would be good if we could find a way to come together as a whole club to honour our winners and champions in an inclusive way that involves all sections celebrating and sharing exceptional achievements as one. That aspiration might be challenging but it would undoubtedly bring people together and help develop the already strong sense of team spirit and friendship that we enjoy. Alongside our golfing aspirations we will of course continue our traditional charitable and fundraising efforts over the next 12 months and Gill will provide some detail on that shortly. To sum up, Gill and I have a simple desire for our Captains’ year and that is to help as many people as possible to enjoy their golf and the golf club, as much as possible. We both have a passion for the game and a passion for this club and hopefully that will help us engage with our fellow golfers and keep most people smiling through the year – hopefully that will also include the two of us! If that doesn’t work, I have in mind some left handed golf challenges which might provide some fun for probably 99% of the membership! I have to say, it really is a special honour and privilege for me to be Club and Men’s Captain for 2015 /16. I sincerely hope that during the next year we can all find the time to appreciate the

many good things that we are so lucky enough to enjoy here – yes, there will inevitably be occasional frustrations, but for me it’s all about keeping things in perspective. So in closing, just as Andy has been asked questions about how his year has gone, has he enjoyed it, would he do it again etc, etc., I too have been asked similar questions about standing as Captain – are you looking forward to it, why do you want to do it, will you enjoy it, what does your wife think (we won’t go there!) – But you get the gist... Well for me there were two defining factors that absolutely sold it, and tipped the balance heavily in favour of taking on the responsibility... Firstly, you get to use the most fantastic, dedicated and personalised parking space very conveniently situated just outside the front doors of the clubhouse – simply marvellous! However, as if that wasn’t enough, you also get your very own Captain’s locker in the changing rooms – I mean what a bonus! I can’t wait to be using both and apparently both become available from midnight tonight! HAPPY DAYS!! Seriously Ladies and Gentlemen, we have an opportunity to enjoy golf, enjoy friendship and enjoy life - I hope you will join myself and Gill in taking that opportunity. Thank you.

New Ladies’ Captain’s Address. Following on from Chris, I would also like to thank Andy & Hilary for all of their efforts during the past year. The many events and activities that have been organised not only for all of our enjoyment, but also in helping to raise funds for their chosen charity Disability Initiative. Having shadowed Hilary for the last few months, and talking to many of my predecessors, I have not only learnt much, but more importantly have come to realise what a privilege it is for me to have been voted into this role. The support I have been offered has been fantastic. We also have a wide range of members who all find a way of enjoying the environment on offer. Having played in events with Juniors, Highwaymen and the Mixed & Ladies competitions, I can truly say diversity and inclusion shall remain a focus for my energy as Ladies’ Captain. I look forward to working with Chris, the committee and WGM to continue the good works already undertaken by our predecessors, in Windlesham continuing to be a great club to be a member of. The charity Chris and I have chosen this year is the Sam Beare & Woking Hospice, who are dedicated to providing end of life specialised care and support to those in need and their families & friends in our local area. The hospices offer both In-Patient and Day Care facilities and in addition their Community Team provides support to over 1,200 patients in their own homes. The charity has over 800 volunteers covering 25 different roles, and many fund raising activities that

they rely on to help to raise the £21k per day required to keep them going. Every £200 they raise

provides day care for one patient, £1,000 will provide three visits by a clinical nurse in someone’s

own home.

Chris and I will be organising some specific events for the charity, and we do hope you will be able to join us in supporting this charity to continue providing services to those in need throughout our year. I wish you all a very good year and look forward to working with you. Gill Wood
