Minutes of the 14 th BoG meeting held on 07/08/2015.

Prof. (Dr) S Mohan, Professor, IIT, Chennai, the Chairman presided over the meeting.

The following members of the BoG attended the meeting:

The meeting started with the welcome address by Prof. (Dr) R Sasikumar, Principal incharge.

BoG congratulated Prof. Gymmy Joseph Kattoor on his appointment as the Registrar of

Indian Institute of Information Technology, Kerala. The BoG placed on record the

appreciative and sincere efforts put down by Prof. Jimmy Kattoor as the TEQIP Coordinator

of the institution. The Board also noted that the Dr. Indiradevi K.P. has taken over as

Principal of Govt.Engg College Thrissur and the BoG placed on record the excellent co-

ordination of TEQIP programme at RIT and appreciated the contributions made by her

towards the implementation of the project.

Decisions on Agenda ItemsA1.Confirming the Minutes of the 13th Meeting of the Board of Governors held

on25/05/2015 at Conference Hall, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam.

The draft minutes of the 13th Meeting of Board of Governors of TEQIP Phase II of

RIT Kottayam held on 25/05/2015 at Conference Hall, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology,

Kottayam was sent to the Chairman. The Chairman approved the minutes and sent to all the

members of the BoG for comments, if any. A copy of the Minutes is appended as Appendix

A1 for confirmation. Since there are no comments on the minutes received from any member,

the minutes of the 13th meeting of the BoG is confirmed.

A2. Report on the action taken on the pertinent decisions in the Minutes of the 13 th

Meeting of the Board of Governors held on 25/05/2015 at Conference Hall, Rajiv

Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam.

The decisions taken by the Board as recorded in the Minutes of the 13h Meeting of the Board

of Governors of TEQIP Phase II held on 25/05/2015is presented for information.

3 International conference –in the Institution

International Conference on Electrical Machine, Communication and Computing (ICEmC2)-Deferred (specific justification on topic required )

New proposal is submitted

BoG scrutinized the proposal and expressed their lack of satisfaction about the submitted proposal especially regarding the title and theme of the conference. It was recommended that after elaborate consultations’ and discussion among HOD’s and concerned faculty members a well drafted and comprehensive report has to be submitted and the same may be send to all BoG members for approval.

4 The BoG approved Two STTP/Workshop proposed by various faculty/staff members.

Conducted BoG recommended that a report of the conducted programmes needs to be submitted to the BoG. The report must include feedback from participants, details of experts and sessions, No. of faculty/staff attended, expenses, outcomes of the course etc.

B1. Presentation by Principal and Head of the Departments

Principal made a presentation on the nine performance indicators of TEQIP and Head of the Departments made a presentation on progress of the departments in TEQIP activities and preparedness for NBA accreditation. BoG made the following remarks after the presentations.

Regarding status of autonomy it has to be changed from “applied” status to “in progress” as the institution is yet to apply through Kerala Technological University(KTU)

BoG queried about reason for not applying for NBA Accreditation for P.G Programmes and BoG was informed that with the existing status of cadre positions it is not possible to simultaneously go for NBA accreditation for P.G and U.G Programmes.

BoG recommended that a letter may be sent to Govt. for filling existing vacancies of Professors and Associate Professors.

Some good practices in Mechanical Engineering Dept. like students attending outreach programmes and digitalization of library may be adopted by other departments as well

BoG expressed concern regarding low score obtained by many departments in Mock Accreditation and stressed need for urgent steps for rectification of the same so that all departments can get NBA accreditation with good grades.

Regarding modernization of labs, more specific explanation has to be given on the area in which modernization has been done.

B2. New TEQIP Coordinator and Nodal Officers.

Prof. Gymmy Joseph Kattoor was deputed to the of Registrar, IIIT Kottayam and he was relived from on 21st July 2015. Also Dr. David Solomon George, Nodal officer Finance has been transferred to GEC Idukki.

Dr. R. Sasikumar , Professor in Mechanical Engineering was nominated as the new TEQIP coordinator and BoG approved the same

Prof. Joseph Zachariah, Associate Professor in Electronics and Communication Engineering was nominated as the Nodal Officer, Finance and BoG approved the same.

A committee was constituted by the Principal, RIT Kottayam to discuss the training

needs for the students of RIT. The members were Dr R V G Menon (BoG Member),

Dr R Sasikumar (Principal in Charge), Dr R Rajesh( Placement Coordinator), Mr

Swapnesh S, Asst. Prof. ME, MsNisha K K (Training Coordinator).Prof. R.V. G.

Menon recommended that curriculum integrated training is required for

comprehensive improvement of the students. BoG also stressed the need for

curriculam integrated training and suggested to develop an action plan after

discussions at department and institutional level.

A proposal has been received from Information and Communication Technology

Academy of Kerala (ICT Academy of Kerala) to take the academic membership. ICT

Academy Kerala is a Social Enterprise created in a Public Private Partnership model(PPP)

for imparting ICT skills to the youths of Kerala and improve their employability

opportunities in the industry.

The annual Membership fee is Rs 60000/- + tax. Currently Most of Govt.

Engineering Colleges, Colleges under IHRD and self financing colleges are academic

members of ICT.

BoG may take decision in this regarding.

BoG Decision : Not Approved as there is less scope of carrying this forward after

TEQIP-II and the benefits offered to the institution is not significant.

BoG recommended to conduct an in-house training programme on Pedagogy

Next BoG meeting is scheduled on 16th October 2015
