Shortly after the meeting three of our Board members and two managers from the City of Rancho Mirage met with the Westin senior management. The hotel agreed to replant the trees that were blown down in the storm and replace the dead bushes around the course. This was a good first step for us and our plan is to continue to pursue the hotel to bring our course back to its condition of years ago.

We learned from Securitas that several criminals were recently arrested and incarcerated who they believe were behind the break-ins at Mira Vista. Hopefully, that will put an end to the thefts in our development.

Your Board has filed a claim with our insurance company to replace the trees that were blown down during the bad windstorm. They have settled with us and new trees were planted here. Good job done by the Landscape Committee.

The Earthquake Preparedness Committee has a new chair, Dr. Phyllis Cooper, and we are looking forward to her leadership role in helping all of us prepare for a significant earthquake disaster.

The solar panels we installed at the pool area to reduce our gas expense have done well and we expect a five year payback on that investment.

One reminder, we have no sidewalks in Mira Vista and many of us walk our dogs or just walk around the development. Please remember that our official speed limit is 25. Some of our residents and guests abuse this and we are worried about our safety. Please slow down when driving and tell your visitors and service people.

Also, we have a new web site for our development, www.miravistaatmissionhills.com, I urge you to visit it as our homeowner meetings and other activities are posted there.

Thank you,

Mike Traidman, Board President

Splashing Into Summer

The snow birds are migrating back to cooler climates, which can only mean one thing: Summer is here! The community pool area is a fantastic amenity for your community. In order to maintain this feature and use it in harmony with your fellow neighbors, we would like to remind you of the basic pool rules and regulations.

1. Pool hours are 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. 2. No animals are permitted in the pool area. 3. Food and drinks are allowed in pool areas provided they are in paper or plastic

containers. Trash is to be cleaned up and placed into the appropriate bins immediately.

4. The following are not allowed in the pool area at any time: a. Glass of any kind; b. Skate boards, roller blades, skates or bicycles; c. Any item or object used in such a manner as to disturb the full use and

enjoyment of the pool area by others. To submit work order requests for the pool and spa, or any common area amenity, please contact management at (760) 346-1161.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS NEWS

The purpose of this column is to keep the residents of Mira Vista informed regarding the state of "awareness and preparedness" within our gates and the city in general. Our intent is not to frighten you, but to put you at ease. Preparing for an emergency is really quite simple. Once you have completed the task, you will be able to relax and enjoy life in our wonderful community. Knowing that when something does happen, you are capable of being self-sufficient, until outside help is available.

The committee and I will help you explore classes and workshops available to you at little or no cost. We will share with you the most current thinking regarding what is needed to stay safe during an emergency. We will welcome any questions or suggestions you may have. If we do not know the answers to your questions, we will research them or direct you to a resource that will help you. Our hope is that this will be an interactive learning experience for everyone involved.

Do you know about CERT? Community Emergency Response Training is designed to help you to help yourself, your family and your neighbors in the event of a catastrophic disaster. Landscape Ideas by Jesse Escamilla, Pro Landscaping

With water rates on the rise, we

thought it would be helpful for you to have some ideas for flowering native

plants that you may add to your garden. The featured plant for this newsletter is the Convolvulus

Mauritanicus, or more commonly referred to as the Ground Morning

Glory. It is a fast-growing, trailing evergreen perennial that can grow up to

1 to 1-1/2 feet high and spread 2 feet wide. Small, round, gray-green leaves are covered with 1-inch wide, lavender-

blue flowers all summer. Plant in full sun only. This plant requires good soil

drainage and trimming in the winter to renew the growth.

The Convolvulus Mauritanicus pictured above is beautiful, water conserving plant

perfect for any garden.

From the Manager’s Desk

First, I would like to introduce your managing staff. I was appointed community association manager of Mira Vista this February and it has been an absolute pleasure working with you since. I have six years of experience working with community associations in the Coachella Valley and have been working with Desert Resort Management since October 2012. Catherine Garcia, my administrative assistant, has been working with Desert Resort Management for one year and with Mira Vista since February. We are here to ensure that Mira Vista is a successful, fairly governed community with a positive atmosphere. If you have not already done so, please feel free to call or stop by our office to introduce yourself. The Board met on April 25, 2013. Some of the highlights from that meeting are:

1. The board approved a proposal to upgrade the transponder reader systems. These readers will read the current windshield transponders and any new access devices that may be introduced after the equipment is installed. Headlamp readers will soon be available for those who do not have windshields on their motorcycles or golf carts. The readers have been ordered and installation is tentatively scheduled to begin on Monday, July 8th which will improve the rear gate exit. In response to this project, the board voted to lower the cost of windshield transponders to $30.

2. The board approved a proposal to have a slurry coat added to the streets within the community. The project is tentatively scheduled to begin in the Fall. You will be notified of an updated project schedule approximately six weeks before the project.

3. The board voted to update the community speed limit signs to 25 mph to reflect the

speed limit referenced in your CC&Rs. You should be seeing these signs replaced very soon.

4. All seventeen trees damaged during the September windstorm have been replaced. We have submitted a request for reimbursement, less the $10,000 deductible, to the insurance company and received partial payment already.

5. The board is looking to modify rules governing recreational vehicle (RV) parking and real estate signs. Drafts will be reviewed during their June 20th meeting.

Please visit www.miravistaatmissionhills.com to view the minutes of past board meetings and community calendar. Again, it is a pleasure working with such a beautiful community. Please feel free to contact Catherine or me if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions. Sincerely,

Leslee Williams

Tips to keeping your home safe over the summer

Courtesy of Kaitlin Bohigian, Securitas Security Supervisor

Living in the area that we do, would be criminals are on the look out for snowbirds that have flown

home for the summer and left their nests empty. This is why it is especially important to not make your home appear “closed for the summer.” Below are some tips that can help keep your home a

little safer from anyone who may be looking to cause mischief:

Try to avoid making your home look too vacant; covering all of your backyard furniture is a

dead give away. Try as best you can to make your home look like it is still in use.

Have any mail or newspapers stopped or forwarded while you are away. Piled up

mail/newspapers are a clear sign that no one is home

Having lights (inside and out) on a timer that come on and off periodically can help keep

people away.

Have someone check on your home periodically to make sure everything is okay; if

something is wrong it is better to find out sooner rather than months later. This includes checking the inside of the home, outside lighting, and the front door. Any mailers or flyers left on the front door should be removed immediately since this can be a signal that nobody

is home. Any malfunctioning lighting should also be fixed immediately.

Make sure someone is helping with the upkeep of your residence. Heavy dirt on sidewalks,

built up cobwebs, and an overgrown yard can signal that the owners have been away for sometime.

Notify security of the dates you will be gone and request that they do extra checks around your home. Make sure your contact information is up to date before leaving so that they

can easily notify you if need be.

Email Addresses Needed

Do we have your email address on file? If not, please provide Desert Resort Management with your email address.

Using Constant Contact the Mira Vista Homeowners Association is able to send valuable information to the membership at the click of a button.

Constant contact is a cost effective way to keep homeowners aware of Board and Committee meetings and upcoming events important to your neighborhood.
