This will provide the smuli for a range of ficon and non-ficon wring including diary wring, newspaper reports and narrave. There will be a strong focus on reading for inference and comprehension together with regular addional spelling, punctuaon and grammar and spelling lessons aimed at improving wring accuracy and in preparaon for SATs. English homework will be given out on Wednesday and collected in on the following Wednesday; however, this may vary according to the weekly focus – as somemes preparaon or consolidaon is necessary. There is an expectaon that children will read for at least 15 minutes each evening. Spellings will connue to be learnt as part of English lessons where children will be taught spelling rules and strategies for learning. There will be a focus on learning spellings from the Year 5/6 list. PSHE and RE PSHE will focus on the topic building and maintaining posive friendships’, encouraging discussions about tolerance, compromise and appreciang friendships. In RE, children will be will be finding out about the different stages in the journey of life with a parcular focus on Chrisan beliefs. Music The children will study the Elements and how music and instruments are used to create drama. As you are aware, Year 6 is a very important year for your child, both in terms of the forthcoming SATs and in preparaon for the transion to secondary school. Thank you for your connued support in helping us to ensure that your child achieves the very best that they can this year. Topic: Our topic this term is looking at Natural Disasters’. The topic work will help the children develop an understanding and awareness of why natural disasters have happened, and the consequences both for the planet Earth and the Human Race. Research skills will be used to find out about significant events which have happened in the past and more recently, together with the key factors which led to them occurring. We will focus on natural disasters and their impact on the environment using drama, design and technology together with developing creave skills through wring, art work, geography, history and music. Science: Our science topic for Term 3 is Animals (Including Humans). Children will be learning to idenfy and name the main parts of the circulatory system and explain the funcons of the heart, blood vessels and blood. They will also describe the way nutrients are transported in animals. This will involve praccal invesgaon work where children will explore scienfic ideas and use informaon to help them form predicons and hypotheses. Compung: The focus this term will complete our topic exploring the capabilies of smart technology such as GPS, search engines and apps. Welcome to Year 6 Term 3 This is an overview of what your child will be learning this term. PE lessons are on Thursday. PE will include an out- door games session as well an indoor dance session. We appreciate your connued support in ensuring that the children always have their kit in school to enable full parcipaon. Please provide a warm track-suit / jogging booms for the cold weather. Children will use formulae for calculang perimeter, area and volume and will be converng between standard and non- standard measurements.
