Miss West Lothian 2015 C ongratulations on reaching the final of Miss West Lothian 2015 and best wishes for the night itself. However, the Miss West Lothian event is about much more than simply choosing a girl to hold the title of Miss West Lothian for the next 12 months, albeit it is the climax of the year’s work. The Miss West Lothian event has now been in existence for 20 years. During that time, girls who have entered the event have helped raise tens of thousands of pounds for local good causes and charities. All the money raised has been spent meaningfully and has made an impact on the people who live in West Lothian. For instance, when vandals broke into the home of a special needs group just days before Christmas - and set the toys on fire, it was the Miss West Lothian girls who came along and presented a cheque which helped the little boys and girls enjoy the Christmas they deserved. You should be proud of your participation in Miss West Lothian, because you are helping the people who most need your help. We actively encourage girls to stay involved with the Miss West Lothian event and remain committed to our charitable aims. We will be holding a ‘Preparing for the final’ workshop at Grand Central upstairs lounge from 7pm - 9pm on Tuesday 24 th March. Workshops will include confidence building, catwalk training, hair and make-up tips, information about judging and question and answer session. Compere Alan Scott will discuss the form with you at the rehearsal night at Grand Central on Monday 30 th March. Alan will highlight two or three things from your form and will let you know that he will discuss these with you on the final night. The rehearsal runs from 6.30 - 9.30pm, but you don’t have to attend for the whole night. Half an hour between the times above will be enough. The rehearsal is a dress down night, so T-shirts and jeans are fine. For the final night, you should make arrangements to do your own hair and make-up. On the night, there will be people available to do running repairs, such as hair coming down, make- up mishaps etc. Now to the event itself. The final is on Wednesday 1 st April. The Miss West Lothian teams consists of myself as organiser, Emma Hanley as co-organiser, Alan Scott as compere and Ruth Young. We also have various back-up staff, such as beauticians and hairstylists, as well as a list of sponsors, without whose help we could not survive. Admission on the night is £5, all of which goes to the Michelle Henderson Cervical Cancer Trust. The event starts at 7.45pm. You will be judged on looks, posture and poise and presentation, each carrying a mark out of 10 and a maximum overall score of 30. For the girls who get into the final 10, there is an additional mark of 10 for personality, meaning the maximum mark achievable is 40. Marks will be available for scrutiny, and following the final girls are welcome to get in touch to discuss their individual marks. Even if you don’t make the final 10, please stay on to cheer the girls who do. For you are simply transferring your baton to them as your representative in a night that is totally aimed at helping charity. Again, thanks for your participation. By taking part, you have proved to be a special type of person. For without contestants, we wouldn’t have an event at all and no charity would benefit. Best wishes.
