USAID acting Mission Director Paul Sabatine, Deputy Mission Director, Farhad Ghaussy, Deputy Director, FtF Team, Economic Growth Office, Mark Tegenfeldt, Agriculture Development Officer, Dr. Osagie Christopher Aimi- uwu, Economic Growth and Ajaoy Roy, Director General, Department of Live- stock, Government officials of different departments and representatives from Livestock coordination group and Ag Ex- tension Project staff were presented on the occasion. The Minister and the Ambassador talked to the group members, observed project exhibited different activities and expressed their satisfaction over the activities of the project. DAM is awarded theGlobal Prize of the Edu-cation for Sustainable De-velopment – ESDOkayama Award 2015 forits commendable contri-bution to sustainable de-

velopment through pro-tection and conservationof forests and bio-diver-sity. This is the firstGlobal Prize on ESDawarded by the OkayamaCity of Japan. The Mayor

of Okayama City MasaoOmori handed over theaward certificate on 13December 2015 to DAMExecutive Director Dr. MEhsanur Rahman in a for-mal award presentation

ceremony in theOkayama MunicipalChuo Kominkan Hall. It may be mentioned thatD AM has been imple-menting integrated proj-ects to address thenegative impacts of cli-mate change in the south-ern coastal districts ofChittagong (Banskhaliupazila) and Satkhira(Shaymnagar upazila)with multi-sectoral inter-ventions covering educa-tion, society, economyand environmental issues.Through two projects inthese locations, commu-nities are prepared againstthe impending climatechange-induced disastersby creating alternatelivelihood options for theforest dependant house-holds and a human shieldis formed against unsus-tainable extraction of re-sources from theSundarban in Shaymanarand the reserve forests inBanskhali.

ESD Okayama Award 2015 toDhaka Ahsania Mission

Dhaka Ahsania Missionorganized an awarenessprogramme on tobaccocontrol and drug preven-tion in Ahsanullah Uni-versity of Science andTechnology (AUST),Dhaka on 20 Decem-ber’2015. The pro-gramme was held in theseminar room of the cam-pus where 120 studentsand teachers were pres-ent. Treasurer of Ahsanul-lah University of Scienceand Technology, Dr. KaziShariful Alam was pres-ent as Chief Guest in the

programme. ProfessorShamol Kanti Biswas, ad-visor of student welfareof Ahsanullah Universityof Science and Technol-ogy was present as spe-cial guest. Dhaka AhsaniaMission’s tobacco controlprogramme, Project offi-cer, Umme Jannat pre-sented the harmful effectsof tobacco and JannatulFerdous, counselor ofDhaka Ahsania Missionfemale drug treatment &rehabilitation centre pre-sented harmful effects ofdrug. Chief Guest Dr.

Kazi Shariful Alamthanked the organizers fororganise such a pro-gramme. He also recom-mended for organizingmore such programmesso that the students andteachers can be moreaware on these issues andable to contribute fruit-fully to solve the alarm-

ing problem prevailing inthe society. Dhaka Ahsa-nia Mission and Ahsanul-lah University of Scienceand Technology jointlyorganized the programmewith the support of Cam-paign for Tobacco FreeKids (CTFK) and LionsClub of Dhaka Oasis.

The Fairtook place at premise ofMilky Auditorium, KrishiKhamar Sarak, Farmgate,Dhaka on 24-25 Novem-ber 2015. DAM set up astall in the Fair and par-ticipated in Poster Presen-tation competition where32 posters of differentGO, INGOs, NGOs andInstitutions were dis-played. DAM achievedsecond prize which wasannounced in the closingsession of two day Fair. The theme of the posterwas Earthquake pre-paredness and make it inpractice level. The prizewas received by Md.Roushon Ali representa-

Urban Primary Health Care Serv-ices Delivery Project Comilla or-ganized three batches of trainingprogramme on 05, 07 and 09 De-cember 2015, at the conferenceroom of Comprehensive Reproduc-tive Health Care Center, Commilla.Family planning counseling train-

ing was conducted on 5 December,Essential Service Delivery trainingwas conducted on 7 December andFirst Aid training was conducted on9 December’2015. 25 participantsparticipated in each batch.A total 75 office staff (Paramedics,FWV, Nurse and Project Assistant,

were provided these training. Mr.Mahbubul Karim, Upazilla FamilyPlanning Officer, Comilla Sadarand Dr. Sharmin Aktar, FamilyPlanning Coordinator, Urban Pri-mary Health Care Services Deliv-ery Project, Comilla conducted theFamily Planning Counseling train-ing. Dr. Dulari Ara Meher, Physi-cian Ph CC-02, Comilla CityCorporation, Comilla and Dr.Sharmin Aktar, Family PlanningCoordinator, Urban Primary HealthCare Services Delivery Project,Comilla conducted the ESD andFirst AID training. . These trainingprogrammes were inaugurated byMr. Helal Uddin, Secretary andProgramme Officer- PIO ofComilla City Corporation and Mr.Golam Rasul, Project Manager ofUPHCSDP, Comilla coordinatedthe training programme.

‘Workplace Adult Literacy & Contin-uing Education’ a project of DhakaAhsania Mission (DAM) has distrib-uted certificates to 75 female gar-

ment workers at the Young An HatBD factory of Chittagong district on10 December 2015. They receivedthe literacy skilled certificates afterbeing literate from the project inthree batches.In his welcome address of the pro-gramme, Team Leader of DAM’s Ed-ucation Program Md. Shahidul Islamhighlighted various innovative prac-tices of Non-Formal Education(NFE) under Dhaka Ahsania Mis-sion. He also welcomed the foreignbuyer & factory management tocome forward to implement theworkplace adult literacy project intheir factory. Programme DirectorDr. Khawja Shamsul Huda upheldthe progress of the project.The President & CEO of OutdoorCap (ODC), Eduardo Senf and Exec-utive Vice-President of Global SocialResponsibility of ODC, USA NicoleFaye Tillman told, ODC want to playrole in improving the quality of gar-ment workers and the productionquality through the workplace liter-acy programme. Thanks givingspeech was delivered by the Vice-President of Young An Hat Bd LtdJay Christopher Powell. On the otherhand, the woman workers were de-lighted as they became literate. Oneof the literate workers ‘MorshadaBegum’ told, ‘I would never expect

to read and write at the end of life.NowI cancount my salary properly. Ican teach my baby. Really, I am de-lighted today.’ At the programme, the

DAM Foundation for Economic Development (DFED) organized a day-long free health camp on Skin and ENT at Sukundi Nazimuddin HighSchool premises of Monohardi Upazila under Narshingdi District on De-cember 28. A specialist team of Doctors of Skin and ENT examined 461destitute patients. Upazilla Health Officer of Monohardi Upazila HealthComplex Dr. Md. Shafiqul Alam inaugurated the camp. Chairman of theSukundi Union Parishad Abdul Gani Farazi and Head of DFED Md.Asaduzzaman spoke on the occasion.

Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) or-ganized an Education Fair forWorking and Disadvantaged Chil-dren on 30 December 2015.The Fair was organized at the cam-pus of Mirpur Bangla School &College. In his inaugurationspeech, Team Leader of EducationProgramme Md. Shahidul Islamhighlighted several educational ac-tivities for underprivileged childrenin Non-Formal Education. He said,DAM is providing Primary & Jun-ior Secondary education and Voca-tional & Life Skill training for theworking & disadvantage childrenin Mirpur & Mohammadpur area ofDhaka city through UNIQUE,EAST-Alokon, Edu-Emp & EAST-UCLC project. He urged civil so-ciety groups, individuals,institutions and the donor agency tocome forward and contribute tonon-formal education.The Ward Councilor Mirpuc-3Kazi Zahirul Islam said,Bangladesh Government is com-mitted to provide quality educationfor all. The contribution of DhakaAhsania Mission in NFE for disad-vantaged students is complimen-tary. He emphasized to become askilled workforce by providing vo-cational and skill developmenttraining along with the education.

Based on the glo-rious victory theme chorography‘Our Bangladesh’ the learnersshowed an opening performance.In the second phase of the fair, thedistinguished guests visited the fairbooth. A sports competition washeld with the participation of stu-dents. The Education fair dis-played products of EarlyChildhood Development, Non-for-mal Primary Education, Non-for-mal Junior Secondary Education,Literacy and Continuing Educa-tion, Drop in Center, Technical &Vocational Education and Trainingprograms, Ahsania Mission Chil-dren City, Disaster Risk Reductionprogrammes, Ahsania Mission Ad-diction Management (AMIC) pro-grammes and Ahsania MissionSchool and college education pro-grammes.The Education fair came to an endwith a Cultural events and prize-giving ceremony.
