Train to land communication…

The future of train to land communication

The rolling stock has not been seen as one of the most dynamic and quick adopters of new technology.

The security issues, the need for durability over long time periods and the lack of useful applications has limited the introductionof modern data communications. This has meant that usuallyfor operational need the single GPRS modems have been a solution that’s good enough.

Simultaneously the demands for customer WiFi and other infotainment have demanded more comprehensive andmodern solutions that enable broadband. The customerWiFi solutions, however, often lack the security neededfor operational safety.

The future is now..!

Now there are available solutions that, either in separate or same system, can provide both secure broadband data for operational and service use as well as infotainment type customer solutions. The cutting-edge mobile multi-channel routers provide a reliable and cost-efficient broadband connection for all rolling stock installations. This makes the vehicle operation a lot easierand safer.

Furthermore, fast and reliable wireless connections enable passengers to use the Internet for work, studying or funwithout any frustrating interruptions.

Goodmill w24e-R -router selects the best possible combination from existing networks and uses them reliably and efficiently.

This router switches between networks seamlessly – guaranteeing uninterrupted connectivity throughoutthe journey.

This ensures reliable, secure, and cost-efficient locomotive maintenance systems, signaling, WiFi coverage foronboard wireless systems, broadband connectivity, and Internet.

Mobile work force improvement for Public Safety...

For law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and emergency medical service units, it is critical to have a constant flow of information in the field. Let’s have a look at three crucialbuilding blocks to achieve this.

Mission Critical Comms – HighLighted No. 2

1 Best possible coverage using parallel networks…

The Goodmill w24e mobile multi-channel routers provide a reliable, fast, and secure broadband connection betweenthe vehicles and the command & control room.

Goodmill w24e is the first router in the world to provide seamless and reliable switching between several different broadband data networks using technologies like 3G HSPA, CDMA2000/450, WiMAX, and LTE.

It monitors the outgoing traffic continuously and, in case of a connection failure, immediately reroutes the trafficthrough another network.

This ensures reliable connectivity that is not interrupted even when the vehicles are constantly on the move. Furthermore, Goodmill w24e reduces the TETRA network load, making itmore reliable. This is achieved by offloading data trafficfrom the TETRA network to broadband networks.

2 Input device which is ‘tough enough for the front line’…

Selecting the correct input e.g. data device for a mobile work force is difficult at the best of times. In conjunction with the UK police and Intel, TETRAtab has started to develop a new market sector of ‘tough enough’ devices.

The brief was to provide devices more robust than an office laptop but not as expensive as the rugged devices epitomizedby the Panasonic ToughBook or TETRAtab’s own R series. The devices needed to be HSDPA/3G for the majority ofusers but with TETRA data options for those handlingsecure documentation.

They needed to be deployable with the minimum of training because there is often no training budget, and they needed some specific options such as card readers for deploymenton secure databases.

In short, the device must be suitable for police officers to do their desk work and take witness statements in the field.

TETRAtab teamed with Intel to produce the C series convertible Tablet/Laptop. Running Windows operating systems, the devices are both securable and intuitive to use.

They are well thought through, too, with spill proof keyboardsand a touch-screen that you can rest your palm on as youwrite. In conjunction with major telecoms operators,TETRAtab has enabled the devices to work oncommercial 3G HSDPA networks, includingspecialist APN’s.

They have also an option of TETRA data using the Motorola OM 100, giving single slot IP data or SDS data streams.

3 Live stream video...

The Zepcam product range is expanded with a new recorder:The Zepcam T1-XT.

Unique feature is the live video streaming between the body cam of the police officer in the field and the command & control room. The Zepcam T1-XT can continuous record video up to 9 hours and has a standby time of 30 hours.

Zepcam video can be replayed on the Zepcam or on a PC or MAC. Encryption and login ensure that only authorizedusers can watch the recorded videos.

The Zepcam T1 consists of 3 MAIN PARTS that can be worn on the body: camera, recorder and a wireless remote control.

The Zepcam product range is developed in close cooperationwith experts and users in the field, both police officers andfire fighters.
