EXPLANATION• As the opening for the movie ‘Mission Impossible – 1996’ begins. We are shown a wide camera angle of a murder to a possible bad guy

within the movie. It is a wide angle because we are able to see all of the action which is happening within the scene. At the same time, the lighting is rather bright so we are able to see what is occurring. The bright lights connotes that good is being done. Also the bright light when he waits for his love to wake suggests hope and happiness for her recovery. As the opening progresses we get a fell for the camera shot of match on action as there is a close of the needle being injected into the female leads arm to help her and aid her recovery. This is very effective as it gives us a sense of how much he loves her because he will do anything to save her. The cuts between the scenes are fast and flow well as it shows the urgency between the scenes and the seriousness of the occasion. However, the cuts from the scene of urgency to the scene where he helps the female lead is slow as it shows a lot of care and love between them. We get a true feel of his emotions due t this. Doing this create a strong atmosphere and a strong effect. This is a very effective technique for the movie. When the titles arrive we first see a bold, strong title of the production company. They strong white colour against the black background makes the title stand out and become eye catching. This will engage the audience right away and make them want more as they progress. They also appear and disappear rather quickly. By doing this it creates the sense of urgency which is portrayed throughout. During the titles we get a lot of quick snippets and ideas of what the movie is about which is effective and this engages people. This is because it creates a suspense of what it to follow within the main body of the movie and what could happen. It also gives us an insight into what the characters are like and what their work is involved with. We know this as it shows electronic files of the characters containing their information. By using the green colour, it suggests that the information is of a private sense. From the start of the opening, we get a good feel of what the characters jobs are as Tom Cruise is wearing a disguise and when he takes the makes off you think he is of importance. His costume also helps us with this estimation because he is wearing a long coat which suggests importance as police detectives would wear those when they we on call and they are important. The females outfits almost suggests that they are disguises because it is the typical short dress for a maid and it seem a bit over the top as well. However, the female lead is wearing a simple dress or gown which shows beauty and is effective as people will immediately fall in love with her and want to carry on watching to se what she does within the remainder of the movie. The set for the opening scene is a fancy room which is decorated well but then dismantles into a warehouse which seems abandoned and neglected. By using this set, the sense of importance and mystery is held because it is in the middle of no where and portrays that this must be a private investigation as well as being confidential.
