Mission La Purisima de Conception is located in Lompoc, CA
• 4 miles east of Lompoc
• Between Santa Barbara & San Luis Obispo

sheep, goats, horses, burros, mules, pigs, corn, wheat, barley, peas, beans, root stock

cotton cloth – Girls and women got gowns, skirts, and
woolen blankets

Condition today
• 1934 restoration began• By Civilian Conservation Corps• Under Union Oil officials• Had to be a historical monument• Had to have enough land • Historical information came from:
– Archaeological digs– Clay dug from hillsides to make adobe bricks– A lot of hard work
• Currently has a new visitor center

• Did you know this was the 11th mission founded?• Did you know that the Roman Catholic Church had a rule
that no mission could be within 7 miles from any city, but that Mission La Purisima was the exception to that rule?
• In 1806, 220 people (mostly Chumash Indians) died at the mission, primarily due to disease
