Gospel SummaryChildren may know just how Zacchaeus felt in today’s Gospel story. Have you ever lifted your children to your shoulders so they might see over the crowds at a parade, waiting in a long line, or at a local sporting event? Zacchaeus was short and climbed a tree to get a better look at Jesus. Something surely stirred in his heart because it seems that he may have already given some thought to changing. Jesus reached out to Zacchaeus in friendship, and Zacchaeus responded with generosity and true remorse.Bringing the Gospel into Your FamilyImagine that Jesus has joined your family (you may even want to set an extra place for him at the table). What kinds of things would you want to talk about with Jesus? Do you have some questions to ask him? Are there some things that you would be willing to change about yourself or your family in order to respond to Jesus as Zacchaeus did? In your discussion, think of some occupations in our own time that would be hard to have and still live the way Jesus wants us to.Discussion StartersI need to forgive . . .Someone I know (of) repaid a debt like Zacchaeus when . . .Someone I need to reach out to even though he/she is different from me is . . .Questions of the Week

Adults: During the next week, what could you do to welcome someone who usually feels excluded?Children: Is there a child in your class or neighborhood who is left out of games and activities? What can you do?

Refl ection and questions from RCL Benziger. http://rclblectionary.com

Ways to grow your children in faith while at the store. (This continued series is from Making Faith Fun by Amy Viets, ACTA Publishing). While you wait. (This next series is ideas for all those times of waiting – in

line at the grocery store, in the waiting room at the doctor’s office, at sports practice…)Noah’s Ark memory game - say “God told Noah to build the ark and take the animals with him. First he took the camels.” Then repeat and add… second he took the birds… continue until someone forgets, then everyone says together “And God put a rainbow in the sky.”

No FFF this weekend – retreat only for children in their second year of preparation for First Eucharist. FFF meets again on Nov. 17 (Nov. 11 is a holiday weekend, so no FFF).

Help Needed with Sacred LinensThere are many ministries in the Church that meet the needs of our parish. Some are very public, such as singing in the choir or serving as Lector. Some are done behind the scenes such as counting the the weekly collection or cleaning the church.

One of these unseen ministries that needs more helpers is the washing of sacred linens used on the altar at Mass. The work is done in your own home, takes a few hours about every other month. It requires access to a

washing machine and iron. This is an equal-opportunity volunteer position...All are invited to join this ministy! If you would like to help with this or any other ministry, please contact the parish office at 805-781-8220. Thank you for your willingness to serve our parish.

CDAJoin the Catholic Daughters of the AmericasThe CDA was formed over 100 years ago and is one of the largest and oldest organizations of Catholic women in the Americas. We donate to charities, administer scholarship programs and strive “to be helping hands where there is pain, poverty, sorrow or sickness.” Meetings for Court #1162 take place every second Saturday of the month at Nativity of Our Lady Parish Hall in San Luis Obispo. The next meeting will take place on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at 10:00 AM. Luncheon will follow. New members always welcome. For more information, please call Rose at (805) 544-3358.

Serve the Lord with gladness, unity and charity!

The Annual Social Justice Second Collection will be held at all the Masses the weekend of November16-17. This collection always seeks to provide resources to those local organizations which help the most needy in our community. This year it will provide funds for the Hope in Home – Rental or Utility Assistance Program.Hope in Home is a seasonal (October to December) program that provides rental or utility assistance to families and/or individuals who need support to pay rent or utility bills. Assistance is one-time only. It is administered by our own Catholic Charities for families in our county. Our parish has always responded most generously to our Social Justice Collection. Your generous response to this year’s collection will provide hope and help to our brothers and sisters in our own community.

Theology on TapTheology on Tap is pleased to present professor, author and director of academic life at the SLO Classical Academy, Dr. Thaddeus Kozinski, who will speak on the topic, “Enslaved to Freedom: Liberalism and the Logos,” on November 12th, at 7 pm at the Carlton Hotel, Atascadero. In this presentation, Dr. Kozinski will challenge modern assumptions about freedom and help lead us to a truer understanding of the term within the context of a proper moral, metaphysical, and theological order of reality.
