DEAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS
“There is a Light in the World”
Happy Second Sunday of Advent! Recently, I attended a meeting at the Catholic Center. Let me share with you the prayer that was offered, which I find very appropriate for the season and especially the times and circumstances that we live in all around the world. I hope you find it a prayer that you can offer often and be challenged by: “Loving Jesus, In your name, we mark this season: As we bring forth light to defy the claims of darkness, As we bring forth joy and song to defy the claims of sadness, As we bring forth a spirit of generosity to defy the claims of want, As we bring forth peace to defy the claims of war. “That in the darkest, saddest, most wanting, warring corner of the world, All may look to Bethlehem Where, in the humblest of circumstances, In a time of repression From the person of a poor refugee woman In the filth of a manger In the form of a most vulnerable child You came among us to say, "No, there is a light in this world." “Let us be this light to others. Let us be the fruit of the branch of Jesse's tree. Let us be the bearers of the indescribable gift that is your grace. And so defy all false claims on your people and their dignity. “And so, may you be born anew, into every season Into every age Into every land and every human heart. “Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus, come. Amen.” (Catholic Relief Services) And indeed, “‘…when the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.’ This is ‘the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God’: God has visited his people. He has fulfilled the promise he made to Abraham and his descendants. He acted far beyond all expectation – he has sent his own ‘beloved Son’. (CCC, 422) Have a blessed week everyone!
Fr. Bernardine

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
“Prepare the way of the Lord…” - MARK 1:3
We are all called to live a holy life. We are all called to
invite others to live holy lives. Living a stewardship
lifestyle, being grateful and generous with our gifts,
does just that – it puts us on the path to holiness and it
invites others to be holy, too.

The Divine Child’s Birth
Advent leads the Church to the
Silent Night when God Himself is
revealed as one of us. This season leads us
to the joy of His birth. If God has joined His nature to
ours, how can we ever allow our nature to be despised? If
He has come to bring us Divine Life, and will return to
take us to the skies, how can it be all right to throw
people in the garbage? May His birth shed protection on
all about to be born, and as we work to end abortion, may
we "wait in joyful hope for the coming of Our Savior,
Jesus Christ."

GOSPEL WORD “SUNDAY SCHOOL”
The Gospel Word Sunday School session will resume in January 2018, after Mass in Hogan’s Hall.
The Gospel Word gives us an opportunity to share our Christianity, and
it gives us a better insight as to who we are in our walk with Christ. We
would also love to add some new faces to our discussions. Snacks or
a light meal will be served and you are invited to bring something as
well. We thank each and every one for your contributions to the Gospel
Word.
