About Open Arms

“‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the

kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’ … And he took the children in his arms,

put his hands on them and blessed them.” -Mark 10:14,16 (NIV)

Open Arms Childcare Ministries is a non-profit charity that provides no-cost

childcare to needy families. It is located in La Mision, Baja California, Mexico. Open

Arms provides assistance to families who are in desperate need of childcare

services.

Mexico is a third world country with no real form of childcare. Because of the

drastic decline of the peso, many families are no longer able to survive on the

father’s salary alone. This is forcing mothers into the workforce at a fast pace, and

their children in turn become victims.

Our hope and prayer is to keep families together by providing them with a

safe refuge during the day. Our goal is to keep children out of orphanages and off

the streets, and bring them into the loving arms of Jesus Christ. The care and

assistance we provide for these families extends beyond basic well-being and

encompasses all facets of a productive lifestyle, which includes but is not limited to

academic, religious, and life education.

In 2012, Open Arms also added a teen center called Alto Voltaje (High Volt-

age), where 100-150 youth come every Friday night to hang out and hear the Word

of God. That same year, Iglesia Vida Nueva (New Life Church) was begun to help

fulfill the spiritual needs of the community, and a medical and dental clinic was also

opened on the OA campus. Open Arms has become more than just a daycare: we

are a community center helping to meet the social, physical, and spiritual needs of

the residents of La Mision.

Meals

OA Meals in La Mision

As a way of helping with the food costs for the children of OA, we fundraise by offering homemade Mexican food to our groups. You get to enjoy an authentic, delicious meal while eat-ing alongside the kids at the daycare. With every meal you purchase, you are helping supply food for the 60 children enrolled in our care!

Breakfast costs $6 per person. Lunch costs $6 per person. Dinner costs $8 per person. (Please bring with paper goods for your meals, plates, cups, silverware.)

Other Meal Options

As stated above, our dorm facilities include a kitchen, which you are welcome to use to make meals for your team. Please keep in mind that you will need to bring your own food.

You can also eat out. There are a few taco shops in town, as well as several nicer restaurants along the beach. Plan on $10-20 per person for dinner.

We are very flexible and want to make your trip as easy as possible! Please let us know in your ap-plication which meals you would like OA to provide and which meals you will be responsible for.

OA Meals in Camalu

At the dorm facilities in Camalu, there is a full kitchen and dining room, which you are welcome to use. Please keep in mind that you will need to bring your own food.

You also have the option of hiring two women from a local church. At $25 per day, they provide a large breakfast, supplies for a lunch for you to take with you, and an authentic Mexican dinner.
