Preface

The 21st century market is subject to the laws and regulations which pose considerab-le challenges for the wood and furniture industry: more quality, shorter delivery times, technological progress and affordable prices against the background of a further diffe-rentiated society with continuously individual demands. Whereas the end of the tradi-tional market and process chains offer the opportunity fulfilling customized solutions and special requests for the customer in a globalised and networked world of today.New technologies in planning, manufacturing and communication enable to obtain cost-effective individually designed furniture and concepts of interior design. The requi-rements for the implementation is the flexibility by applying more flexible construction procedures combined with modern machine employment and communication plat-forms to redefine the relationship between trade, suppliers and producers. Thereby the economic efficiency of modern product and production planning with the quality of the applied software rises or falls. Clear statements are immensely important for the construction, the performance cha-racteristics and the conception of the software. A presumably cheap solution turns out to be an expensive and unprofitable investment later because certain requirements can-not be fulfilled finally. imos as the leading software provider for furniture and interior design sets as the first priority a high degree of investment security and planning for the customer. This compendium presents a significant contribution to inform the user about all details illustratively and clearly.

3D software for furniture and interior designTechnological progress as an excellent inspiration for change

Modern software solutions must provide continuous assis-tance for the manufacturers of furniture and interior design from the sale via planning, presentation and design to the final production and at the same time to respond to chan-ges on the market. Keywords such as cloud computing and networking signify the modern business. imos creates new possibilities for optimized processing of orders taken from the internet or trade- or inventory management system.

Layouts of individual furniture and complex room planning can be created within a very short time and impressively presented. Details or complete part groups can be modified according to the customer’s desires and immediately calcu-lated and displayed. At the touch of the button manufac-turing lists are directly available after creating the design. Design data is automatically transferred to CNC machining centers, controlled partition or automatic assembly ma-chines. Detailed precision, a secure process flow and a fric-tionless communication between customer, partners and suppliers via internet guarantee the security in the manu-facturing process.

Fields of application Integrated software from „sales-to-machine“

The new imos software generation perfectly coordinates with the specific needs of the manufacturing industry. imos is based on intelligent construction principles which allow an ultimate freedom in designing and modifying in every process phase, but ensure internally processes for manufac-turing standards. imos is suitable for the kitchen, bathroom, living-room, office, shopfitting and interior design sectors. It intelligently combines materials, fittings and machines to create a manufacturing design, with all the particular fea-tures appropriate for the specific sector taken into account. For example, special functions have been developed for the kitchen to simplify and accelerate the design of work sur-faces, bases and fillers.

Large-scale arrangements are often required for office and shopfitting. A relevant visualization function controls the level of detail in the display to allow an efficient data ma-nagement and a convenient planning. With the support of the function “Cloning” characteristics such as colour, mate-rial etc. of a furniture element can be transferred to another planning object per mouse click. Different part lists neatly separate the stock from the respective supplements. These examples show clearly how the software is tailored to the needs of the industry. The main objective is to improve the process in sales, in the technical office and in the production in terms of flexibility and efficiency.

The imos core technologyBranch-Know-how in the interactive network with object-oriented 3D CAD and modern SQL Database

The basis of imos is the object-oriented achievement. In contrast to the simple 3D CAD where the user works with geometrical objects such as a cuboid or a sphere, imos uses intelligent parts or part groups, therefore sides, shelves and doors for example are available for the user to design with.At the same time these parts are constructively related to one another. The imos parts are variable referring to dimen-sion and material characteristics. Besides the length, width and height, all characteristics which have a direct effect on the design process and the following work phases, are de-fined. For example, if a carcase side is designed, informati-on regarding material, surfaces, edges, drilling picture and several more details are taken into account. Furthermore, imos has the possibility to deposit given design and manu-facturing rules. Industry and company specific fittings and connection situations are automatically considered. If a fit-ting is set, the machining is precisely positioned to perform on the correct place and the relevant CNC information is generated.imos creates a complete furniture element with all techni-cal and constructive details based on the described mecha-nisms and dependencies. By modifying individual characte-ristics, all possible variations can be created.

k Furniture elements such as cabinets, shelves, but also co-lumn linings and corner benches can be created quickly and variable dimensioned. The Article Designer has access to the parametrical parts in the form of “Construction principles”. Moreover, design assistants are available with the Object Designer and Part Designer.k The imos construction principles are divided into the required individual part principles or part group principles and describe the constructive parameters (indentation, re-cesses) as well as the type of connection with other parts. Construction principles have access to “Parts” or “Objects”. k Parts are variable dimensioned defined and described regarding to material, surface, shape and profile. Whereas objects are fixed elements such as handles, mounting parts or connectors defined with commercial and technical fea-tures.

Parts and material structureParts are defined by the characteristics such as base material, coatings, veneers, edges and profiles.

Complex parts can also be defined such as e.g. partiti-on constructions as a sandwich structure in metal stand design, metal constructions for table frames or shopfit-ting elements. Multi-elements such as frames and filling contructions can be defined by nesting the different parts.

The parts of the relevant required design can be dynami-cally aligned by means of certain rules for the part definiti-on. While doing so, it is possible to have a permanent access to libraries for panels, edges, veneers etc. By selecting a ma-terial, the basic data for generating the part lists as well as calculations, photorealism and production can be defined.

Connection technologySupport of all current connections in furniture and interior design

A comprehensive library with intelligent and parametrical connections allows a fast and safe design.

The software supports the designer with following automa-tisms:

k Analysis of the connection situationk Selection of suitable connection elements (e.g. fittings) optional with the necessary accessoriesk Positioning of fittings by the means of parametrical rulesk Generating of workings such as drillings, grooves etc. on adjacent partsk Drawings, part list information, CNC programs etc. are automatically updated

imos has developed this data model together with user companies and applied a comprehensive library. Following detailed information is given for every fitting in the system: administrative data, drawing data, components, insertion logic as well as machine data.

Within the connection optimization - which means the independent error-free search for part optimized fittings - imos can automatically apply a dynamic search for the suit- able fitting solution where the system recognizes recurring fitting situations and suggests suitable fitting solutions. The following example directly shows the optimum benefit with the design modifications:

If a designer inserts a door, the fitting situations, grooves, protrusions etc. are analyzed. The suitable hinge with an as-sembly plate is positioned by the means of the insertion ru-les. Thereby imos automatically identifies the dependencies between the door element and side element and generates the constructive necessary workings on the respective adja-cent part so that there is a flowing continuity.

Master data and catalogsCooperating with the manufacturers and distributors from the furniture supplier industry provide a comprehensive online product catalog

The catalogs provide panels, materials, fittings such as hin-ges, furniture connectors, drawers, articulated sliding door components up to electromagnetic opening systems.

Complete assembly groups for drawer slides and drawer elements, which can be parametrically aligned to an exis-ting design, are also available. These data can be updated with the data portal iFurn from the internet at any time. This saves time and makes it possible to consider the inno-vations and a variety of other products from the suppliers in the design.

Furthermore, imos provides a selection of core materials, surfaces, profiles, edges and solid wood materials. Data for complex systems such as locks, metal components for shop-fittings and worktops are available as well. In addition artic-le libraries provide displays of a complete range of cabinets and carcase furniture for different branches.

A range of tools are already provided for servicing your own catalogs:k The imos Organizer offers a clear input and mainte-nance of data.k Data from the system of branches or manufacturer data can be transferred with diverse interfaces.k Data between ERP/PPS and imos can be synchronized with special replication processes so that a clear and uni-form maintenance of data and the consistency of master data is guaranteed in distributed systems.

iFurn is the data portal where the suppliers from the wood and furniture supplier branch can deposit the their products with the relevant information for imos. Distinct attachment logic can ensure that the products are completely inserted with all necessary components.

Variable technologyPlenty of materials and colour concepts for modern products in the furniture branch

When advising customers numerous surface, handle or front variations must be discussed. imos enables with its high-performance variable structure an efficient data ma-nagement by not displaying every attribute definition of the furniture variants as master data set in the system. The consistency between drawings, part lists and CNC programs in the object-oriented system is also ensured. For example, if a variable handle is modified, imos aligns the drilling pic-ture as required.

Usually variables are only used for basic data such as ma-terial, handle or colour. Whereas with imos variables can be applied on all levels of the object structure and control ar-ticle parameters such as recess dimension or construction parameters such as reveals. By applying a suitable variable structure, the user can definitely simplify the administrati-on of master data.

The performance spectrum of the variable technology is shown on the following examples:k Part characteristics such as core material, coating and edging can be modified with variables and effects part lists, work plan and if necessary cuts.k With the variable “Colour” part lists are aligned as well as render pictures.k For example, type, shape, number, position and distances of fittings or handles can be controlled by variables. The con-sistency to part lists and CNC program is ensured.k Variable parts are often set to change e.g. from a smooth front to a frame filling front.k Variable numbers are often applied in articles and construction principles for defining recess dimension, gap, reveal or number of parts.

Variables, the corresponding default values as well as vari-able families can be applied and administrated by the user. Variables can be modified order-related and article relevant to increase the flexibility of this technology additionally. The variable technology is the basis for the application for imos technology in distribution to illustrate furniture- and article catalogs with different variants e.g. in terms of colours, ma-terial and classifications. Furniture can be selected and con-figured with customized user interfaces. The configuration result controls with the variables the parametrical design model and generates the desired implementation option.

Room planningDetailed and accurate planning and an illustrative customer presentation

3D Room planningimos provides a special architecture module for the detailed planning of complex room situations as well as an illustrati-ve customer presentation. It enables fast and simple trans-fer of the structured built oversize in the CAD system. All technical required parameters (wall length, wall thick-ness, ceiling height etc.) are queried systematically in the dialog. Wall openings such as windows and doors can be included where the planner conforms to the dimensions for windows and doors. If it is necessary to adjust e.g. a room planning to a detailed dimension, then there are plenty of modification functions available. It is also possible to create 3D walls from the 2D drawing of the architect by simply se-lecting the drawn elements.

For completing the room situation, components such as stairs, uprights and columns are inserted. The user has created a detailed architectural basis swiftly for the desired planning. Decoration units such as lamps, plants, sanitary objects, devices etc. are available for a realistic design of the customer presentation.

Individual planning gridimos has an efficient planning grid that offers a flexible and easy to use assistance for complex planning. The planning grid can be aligned to a wall or free contour and divided into different planning segments. Based on the layout grid a corresponding height grid can be created to define diffe-rent planning levels. Notches on corners or angle trims can be automatically calculated and marked for the planning. The planning level plus the alignment on this planning level

and how it should be preferably oriented can be defined for every article. The fields of application are not only the classi-cal grid oriented planning in kitchen and office. In contrast to the usual design planning programs, imos enables with the individual specified grids for complex planning tasks such as e.g. counters and curved designs a fast and comfor-table solution.

Article librariesimos provides a centralized administration of all library elements such as standard or special articles, purchased objects or even variable elements. The structure of the lib-rary is freely defined, the contents are stored in explorer like folders and easily expandable during the planning process. The high-performance article generator can be called when planning to create fast and efficient customer-specific special designs.

Interior design and quotationsComfortable sales solutions on the basis of the design data

Planning and designThe visualization level of plans and designs is optionally customized. In the 2D plan only simple blocks partly with abbreviated designations are shown. However, the 3D block with fronts, partitions and handles already appears in the 3D plan. In the 3D design mode the fittings etc. only then become visible. Finally, in the highest visualizationlevel profiles and processes can be precisely displayed. All visualization

levels are configurable as

well as alternately selectable. For example, with

design modifications the 3D design mode is selected to have access to the complete part list

structure up to the smallest screw. After completing the modification, the modified

article is transferred back to the planning mode and is available as a planning block. With the

command “Clone” characteristics can be transferred from one planning block to another.

Article selectionIndividual furniture types including acceptable implemen-tation versions can be composed and configured with a comfortable selection interface in a catalog as mentioned in the “variable technology“ chapter. As soon as this article has been completely defined, it can be inserted and exact-ly positioned in the 3D room plan. For this purpose, there is a high-performance insertion- and connection function available (wall, article, grid etc.).

QuotationOnce the planning has been completed a quotation can be automatically created. This is generated on the basis of a material overhead calculation and labour/production times, which is described more detailed in the chapter “cal-culation“, a quotation can be calculated for each sales artic-le. The result can be saved in a shopping basket and edited afterwards. By doing this, prices can be modified, positions added and discounts can be assigned as required. Finally, the quotation is output in a professional style.

Beforehand position numbers can be allocated to the planning positions for structure and better readability of the offer. This procedure can be optionally carried out semi-automatically or fully automatically. This structure is also shown in the manufacture bills of material again.

PhotorealismConvincing customers with photorealism

imos has an integrated photographic display which auto-matically defines the application of materials and colours in the planning or design so that the customer receives a clear picture of the design or room situation. If necessary, corrections referring to the shape and material are possible before the production starts. The special effects of the pho-tographic display are achieved by:

k The allocation of materials for surfaces, veneers and pro-files with their reflection characteristicsk Setting light sources with different light qualities (sun-light, spotlight etc.)k Shadow and mirror calculationk Numerous additional special effects such as e.g. free-hand lines or comic-style

Thereby imos supports different rendering methods. The integrated functions allow a quick process in the planning without loading an external application. Alternatively the data can be transferred to current render and animation programs with a special interface that offer a wide variety on illumination options and special effects.

So kann sich der Kunde schon in der Planungsphase einanschauliches Bild des Erzeugnisses oder der Raum-situation machen. Und bei Bedarf sind noch vorProduktionsbeginn Korrekturen hinsichtlich Form oderMaterial möglich.

Article generatorFurniture configuration instead of furniture design

Parts and part groups can be interactively assembled into a new furniture element (article) with the Article Designer. The Article Designer already provides a detailed 3D or 3D ta-ble view in the design process. The constructive dependen-cies and references (e.g. gaps, door hinges, handle heights or grooved back panels) are consequently abided by according to the user’s requirement. After modifying or entering the dimensions, all parts and part dependencies are recalcula-ted to one another. Company specific terms and conditions can be stored in the construction principles. The object-ori-ented approach of imos guarantees a correct calculation for connections between the parts of the article generator and all modifications are considered immediately in part lists and CNC programs.

The working method is very easy:k At first the basic form with the suitable view is selected or directly transferred from the draft drawing. Alternatively in addition basic forms for different carcase furniture or counter, sloped ceiling or corner cabinet designs can be se-lected from a free definable library.

k In the next step parametrical imos parts such as sides, shelves and backs are allocated to the basic form. The basic element can be divided into different zones now. A graphic formula generator is available for the division to define fix, relative and grid oriented references without any difficul-ties.

k Afterwards the created article in the 3D view can be che-cked and modified if required.

k Finally, the new article can be stored as an element in the library or applied as “Once construction” in the plan.

Design assistantsimos offers different methods to ensure a fast solution for

the required design tasks

Article DesignerThe Article Designer is a perfect solution to meet the require-ments for similar or dimension independent designs. This mo-dule meets the requirements in cabinet and object designs if similar furniture with different dimensions or front divisions is requested.

Object DesignerThe design and production of individual bar and counters is a great demand for planners and designers. The Object Designer is based on the classical 2D system of the qualified designer. The basis for generating the part is one or several vertical sec-tions as well as the top view of the design. The 2D geometry data can be created with simple 2D CAD functions such as e.g. polylines. Finally, imos automatically generates the complete counter element with all details in 3D from the different 2D views. By modifying the 2D drawing element, the 3D model can be aligned per mouse click.

Part Designer The Part Designer provides more flexibility and individuality in the 3D modeling. Individual parts are freely combined on the screen in 3D. The procedure is similar to the final assembly of a furniture element. Every element consists of snap and identi-fication points so that parts, edges, connectors, machining etc. can be interactively aligned on the screen. Complex parts can be created with the support of Boolean operations. The shape must be defined first before profiles, materials and fittings can be allocated.

Frame elementsWith imos CAD frames can be designed from cross sections. This takes place on the machining of profiles, pipe elements, connectors etc. where wood, metal or plastic parts can be ap-plied. The shape or resizing has a direct effect on the dependent frame elements regarding shape, size and number.

Strips and Worktops Assistants for creating light valances, trims and cornices as well as for generating worktops are not only applied in the kitchen but also in the interior design and laboratory design. Thereby the elements are automatically generated and if necessary con-nectors are set based on user-specific construction principles along the outline process of articles.

Modification designA wide variety of functions for a fast alignment of existing designs

Design and modification design have smooth and dy-namic transitions. Frequent modifications are carried out with a customer’s order even though it is apparently ready for production. Therefore all previously created pro-duction documents such as drawings, part list data and CNC programs must be checked and if necessary modi-fied in practice.

Not an unusual situationDirectly before production start a decision is made to pro-duce a carcase part in 22mm thickness instead of 19mm because of quality reasons. At the same time knobs are replaced by handles. Furthermore, the front and gap di-vision have changed. Now the updated production docu-ments and CNC data are required. Due to the consistent object-oriented imos software, technical draftsman and machine programmers save a lot of time by just clicking a button to adopt these constructive detail modifications. All information is automatically generated after the exe-cution of the modifications so that a high degree of flexi-bility and data security is guaranteed.

Modification functionsimos offers a variety of possibilities to cover requirements of the modification design. New articles can be quickly assembled from existing parts. In addition numerous functions of alignment and modification functions are available for modifying articles and parts and their cha-racteristics. The modification functions can be recorded and saved with the article. This allows modifications, which have been carried out only once, can be immedia-tely applied on dimensional modified articles.

Drawing outputAutomatic dimensions of articles and parts

The systems internal dimensioning module can be para-metrically controlled to meet different requirements. Fur-thermore, with manual dimension and labelling functions additional details can be shown in the drawing.

As an assembly aid and for design documentation, explo-sive drawings can be created of every article. Thereby imos displays the saved article and part group structure in the imos database.

With the part dimension complete dimensioned produc-tion drawings can be created for all parts. Thereby drilling holes, working groups, lineboring etc. are dimensioned. The parameter enables adjustments which details should

appear in the drawing. For this purpose a text parameter module is applied so that the user can define defaults and dimension texts. Diameter and drilling hole depths can be determined as a parameter.

Through sections are important for the assembly as well as for production. These are created with special commands for any cut levels. If the design is modified, the sections ad-just themselves accordingly. A range of branch specific op-tions create practical displays with material identification and cut markers.

Customers and distribution require a clear display of the planning or design. Various functions are available for crea-ting part and connector dimensions or a 3-table-projection with downsized design details.

Project administration and part listsIntegrated project administration to combine individual orders or drawings to business orders

Detailed production documents can be created for orders. For this purpose imos has a range of functions for adminis-tration, sorting and print of part lists. The part list data can be optionally transferred directly to the cut optimization or the company specific solution. The integrated Report Gene-rator enables the output of special customized part lists. Different list formats, sorting parts (material types, dimen-sions etc.) and part compression (same dimension, same material type, same processing) can be performed. Besides the classical part lists imos also supports the output of a graphical part list. All articles can be output with explosion, view, side view, isometric view and part drawing additio-nally to the part list data set.

The Report Generator offers the following options:k Cut lists: Sorting according to the description and mate-rial, same raw dimensions, same CNC processing program etc.k Production lists: output of materials, surfaces and edges with all dimensions as well as the edge picture for all parts of the orderk Purchased parts: output of purchased parts with order codes and vendor informationk Profile and edges: output of all edges and profiles with dimensions and a compendium of the same elementsk Coating and surfaces: output of all veneers and foils with dimensions and a compendium of the same elements k Labels: including graphics as well as respective CNC program numbers

k Structured part lists: assembly of a structured list with allocating individual parts to article- and position groups

With the open data structure of imos, the job data can be transferred to text, spreadsheets and other databases.

Automatically created graphics enhance the readability of the part lists.

Design supported calculationCost transparency at all levels

Not only planning or design data can be used for part lists with the data structure and CNC programs, but also plan-ning or design conducted calculations.

For this purpose different calculation methods are available with the imos Organizer:

k For the material overhead calculation the exact quantity is determined and is calculated with material price as well as the overhead. k Not only material is calculated, but also the production time with material and production cost calculations. Own operations and variable time periods can be allocated to every element in the imos object structure. A complete work plan is order specific composed from these operations consisting of the calculated production time per production step. Cost centers with the cost set per time unit enables the calculation of the exact production time and cost.k Within the article price calculation, fixed or variable prices are added which are directly deposited in the artic-le. These prices can be linked with execution versions to be able to deposit complex price tables.

The calculation takes place automatically in the back-ground. The results are available in different formats and detail levels and can be transferred to e.g. Excel for further evaluation.

Connection to the CNC productionHigh utility by connecting CNC production plants

With the object-oriented approach, detailed machining data can be already derived from the planning and design. Not only geometry data but technology parameter as well as the sequential control are automatically generated. imos focuses on the individual machine situations: from the indi-vidual CNC machine and then over to the workshop unit out of saw, edge and CNC up to full automatic industrial plants a professional and economical CNC connection is possible. Thereby all current machine manufacturers are supported.

CAM solutionsk The entry solution automatically generates the part con-tours which are manually added to technology and sequen-tial operational parameters.k Automatically generating complete CNC programs for all parts in the order are popular in the practice because a very high economic efficiency can be achieved. As a result all information can be created for the machines in the process chain. k With panel dividing saws, the automatic generated cut list with detailed cut dimensions and barcode information is transferred to the cut optimization software.k For throughfeed machines to process narrow surfaces a detailed sequential control can be initiated with the bar-code.k For CNC machining centers there is a range of optimized components available to support complex processes like e.g. edge banding aggregates, nesting or folding besides the classical process methods drilling, milling and sawing.k In addition to the classical stationary facilities produc-tion lines and press lines can be driven.

k For 5 axis technology an own programming system with a real time simulation is available to reduce the complexity of the technology and to simplify the operation.

BarcodeThe main item of the CNC manufacturing is a suitable iden-tification for a work element or something similar with the barcode. A unique part number can be directly generated in imos with freely adjustable rules to guarantee that the part is clearly allocated in the production.

Cut optimizationFor the connection of programs to a cut optimization a free configurable interface is set. In doing so, not only cut dimen-sions and material descriptions can be transferred but also part descriptions, position numbers, part graphics etc. On the saw the part is marked with the label with the unique number which is automatically transferred to all following CNC machines.

Automatic CNC programmingAll required CNC programs are directly generated from the 3D

design for the complete order

All required CNC programs are directly generated from the 3D design for the complete order. In numerous practice ins-tallations it became clear that the automatic CNC program-ming for CNC machining centers shows outstanding advan-tages in terms of saving time and avoiding mistakes which the conventional solutions cannot fully achieve. Generating CNC programsThe automatic generation of connection drillings provides a coherent design with the fittings (object-oriented approach). Accordingly all CNC data and drilling pictures are suitably co-ordinated. At the same time several required CNC programs for the complete parts are automatically created for the or-der. In addition to the evaluation of the geometry data of the parts, material characteristics, edge trims, tools and techno-logy data are considered. The result is a direct running CNC program consisting of all required parameters such as tool selection, rotation speed (rpm), feed, startup strategy, first- and second working etc. on the machine. By intensively cooperating with different machine manufac-turers for many years, postprocessors are available for a great number of machines and are being developed for new ma-chine types.

CAM functions The imos CAM technology offers different software compo-nents to cover the following reference tasks:k The generated CNC program from imos is directly trans-ferred to the respective WOP system, which has the advan-tage, that the machine operator can operate the CNC machi-ne as usual. k One or several tools can be allocated to every profile from

which different approach and retract paths are generated.k The part positioning on the machine table is also auto-matically defined.k Appropriate tool movements can be created for parts with mitre joints. k The processing of a part can be divided onto several ma-chines.

NestingIn the nesting method the parts are milled out of a panel. The software creates an optimized nesting plan to genera-te milling movements out of it. For any existing horizontal processes further CNC programs are created for alternative machines.

Connection to branch solutionsIntegration in existing systems with open system architecture and standardized mechanism

In most companies EDV systems are in use for operational and organisational applications. Mostly branch specific so-lutions are applied for the order process. The fields of pro-duction planning and production controlling (ERP/PPS) as well as finances and accountancy are processed with EDV support.

Due to their historical development many applications fulfil many company specific requirements so that a replacement of the system is not necessary or not desired. Some compa-nies have decided on a special IT system and would only like to extend existing functions.

Office integration imos has a close integration to Standard-Office-Applica-tions. The open system architecture enables an access to order data and part lists with Microsoft Outlook, Excel or Access to display numerous business processes.

Parts list transferParts lists created in imos can be transferred to the branch solution with standardized interfaces. imos also supports a hierarchical structure with plan positions, articles, part groups and parts which are taken over from many branch systems. The transfer takes place directly with SQL or with file formats such as XML, CSV etc. Since the interface is free-ly configurable, complex interfaces can also be realised in a short time.

Maintenance of master dataIn many developed IT systems master data can be maintai-ned in different places. As problems can occur by transfer-

ring data, imos provides a tool for keeping the master data consistent so that the planner or designer can always work with the data which are or have been applied and adminis-trated.

Identification of identical parts Even if the strength of imos lies in customized handling, it can also be used for displaying conventional production principles - such as production on intermediate and semi-finished part storage systems. imos enables an identification of identical parts or appro-priate semi-finished parts with an individual adjustable si-milarity search.

imos NET technology The eBusiness platform redefines the sales process and the manufacturing of furniture

The internet based presentation and ordering system imos NET combines the internal planning processes and produc-tion with external sales tasks. imos NET is an eBusiness so-lution following the strategic approach “from sales to ma-chine”.

From sales to machineOffers and designs created by using imos NET are transfer-red from the internet and are directly imported into imos CAD/CAM. From here automatically created production documents, part lists and CNC programs are available. No manual processes are involved and the job is ready for pro-duction. The software has been created on the basis of the latest internet technology standard and maintains a clear branch focus with the core technology of imos software for dynamically generating 3D furniture designs.

Integration and consistency instead of interfacesThereby a developed unique solution makes it possible to work with the flexible furniture library during the comple-te process. The advantages are obvious: The 3D design data including all parameters can be directly applied without any restrictions in the sales planning and proposal pre-parations. Consequently, new articles and catalogs can be brought onto the market without any time delay. A significant advantage of this consistency is an error-free and accelerated order processing. The factor “Time-to-Mar-ket” is minimized and the orders have already been produc-tion-related checked with the incoming order. The solution in imos is the consistency and reliability in the process such as in the data to ensure considerable savings and optimal results.

imos NET - Business modelsFlexible fields of application possibilities and a wide

range of realizable system solutions

The imos NET modules are optimized for the online-ap-plication and allow the individualization in surfaces and function. This enables the support of different business models with the same technology and to simply customize the design of the surface for the respective purpose or the Corporate Identity of the operator. In spite of the high indi-viduality, the maintenance and further development of the system is possible.

imos NET Operatorimos NET system is usually applied as a marketing soluti-on by a company which manufactures or is manufactured by imos CAD/CAM. The application of imos NET as a com-munication platform enables the decentralization of tasks without the loss of information and increased coordinati-on costs. Thereby work processes, which are normally pro-cessed by the same department or organizational unit, can be separated in responsibility and location. By realising the technology of imos NET, innovative and successful business models have been established on the market. The operator composes the furniture range on the basis of the created parametrical design with imos CAD and additio-nally allocates rules for execution versions such as dimensi-ons, surfaces, colours and fittings etc. The selected interface can be individually designed with XML so that the selection logic can be optimally aligned to the offer. Finally, the cata-log data can be loaded into the imos NET server and then products and services can be offered online.

User and CustomerMost of the installed imos NET portals regulate the sales and order processes internal or between business custo-mers (B2B) such as direct sales, trade or production-out-sourcing. The functionality of the imos NET standard appli-cation module is optimized for this purpose. Nevertheless the same technology can be applied for the end customer solution (B2C). Concerning this, assortments, workflow and surfaces must be customized accordingly. Additionally, com-ponents regulate the invoices and payments. Numerous on-line-solutions on the basis of the imos NET technology take over particular tasks or cover individual business processes. Subsequently solutions for worktops, fronts, panel cuts or complex supplier products such as tambour systems have been developed.

Planning and sale - online Internet shop system for individual furniture and furniture elements

Standard modules for composing are provided for imos NET in order to take account of the different business processes and budgets.

3D Room plannerThe module imos NET PLAN3D is a modern tool for the fur-nishing and fitting planning and presentation on Point-of-Sale. Only with a few operations furniture and fittings can be selected and impressively set up. Wall identifications and intelligent snap points support the positioning of furniture in three dimensional rooms. Considering light and shadow effects, a photorealistic and attractive display is shown in every planning phase. The handling is intuitively and self-explanatory. Virtually walking through the room and pre-defined sequences of movements can be called at any time - such as opening doors and drawers.

ConfiguratorThe heart of the imos NET solution is the configurator. After selecting the catalog, the user chooses a furniture element with a structure tree or pictogram from the assortment of-fered. Then a series of characteristics such as dimensions, colours etc. is queried with a modern user selection until the furniture is completely defined. As a result the configu-rator provides the price and description as well as a high-quality display of the furniture in the selected version. Then the result is directly inserted in the 3D Room planner or the Online Shop. Furthermore, the configurator has a comfor-table presetting and modification function. Add-on modu-les can supply catalogs in different languages and currency.

Online furniture designThe imos NET Designer coordinates with the function of the configurator. Similar to the Article Designer (see chapter “Article generator“) this graphic tool enables the design of a furniture element online on the basis of the construction principles. This innovative approach requires only a small effort on data maintenance and is especially suitable for users who offer individual furniture.

Online ShopThe module imos NET shop system works conclusively and direct with the Room planner, the configurator and the imos NET Designer together and administrates the planned and selected positions in a shopping basket. The shopping bas-ket can be output in the shape of an individualized offer as PDF on request. Depending on access rights, prices and con-ditions can be edited. In case of order the offer becomes an order and automatically informs the operator. In the shop system there are different add-ons for regulating especially the workflow, the access rights and structuring offers.

Integration in the productionOnline-orders efficiently processed and order management production

The orders gather in the password restricted backend do-main of the operator. The operator can download the orders manually or automatically from the server at any time and import them with the module imos NET Connect into the imos CAD/CAM system where all relevant production infor-mation such as part lists, cut lists and CNC programs are created. The process can completely run automatically if desired.

Statistics provides transparency imos NET records every access of a registered user and therefore supplies current reliable information about the utilisation of the system. The database-assisted reports can be adapted to the individual needs and exported for further evaluations.
