So I have my sources, what do I do now?

Setting up your pages… The default settings for the computers

here at Etowah are NOT suitable for your paper.

There are several changes you need to make when setting up your page and paragraph settings for your paper.

First, let’s take a look at what your paper SHOULD look like in proper MLA style.

How do I make my paper look like that?

Step One: In the far right-hand, upper corner, click “Select”; then click “Select All”

Change the font to Times New Roman and the size to 12pt

Click “File,” then click “Save as,” and give your paper a title

Click the small arrow that points down and to the right next to the word “Paragraph”

Make sure your “Paragraph” information looks like this:

Click “File” and “Save,” or simply click the disk icon at the top left of the page

Now comes the difficult part… the header

Click the “Insert” tab at the top of the page Select “Header” Click on the top choice, “Blank” Type your last name, and hit the spacebar

ONE TIME In the tope left box, you will see “Header,”

“Footer,” and “Page #” Click “Page #,” then click “Current position,”

then click “Plain Number” (the top choice) Almost done with the tricky little header…

It’s not in the right place, and it’s that annoying Calibri font!

I know. We just need a few last touches to that header to get it right.

Click the “Home” tab at the top of the page Highlight the header and the page number Change the font to Times New Roman and the

size to 12 pt Click the set of right-justified lines in the

“Paragraph” box Double click on your paper anywhere below the

header line and… Voila!

Now for the citations…

Citing a book Alphabetically, it may not end up being

your first source, but the first source you will reference is your novel of choice.

You need to gather the information and put it in the right places.

Here’s what you need and where to find it:

Citing a website The following slide shows what

information you need and where to find it in order to do a proper citation of a website

PDF Version of Article on Website

Author (Last, First). “Title.” Publisher/Sponsor of Website (Year): Page#-Page#. PDF File.

Citing an article from a database Since you will , in all likelihood, get your

outside source from a database, the following slide will show you where to find the information you need and where to put it when you’ve found it
