school use of the laptops in packets

• Familiarize before signing usage forms

RESPONSIBILITY FOR CARE

•Laptop is on “loan” to your child to use as a tool for learning

•Laptops need to be returned fully charged to school each day

•Student and Parent are solely responsible for care

•Insert only devices meant to be in the openings/ports of the HP (i.e.thumbdrives, USB cables, headphones, etc)

•Students should shut down properly for updates from our IT

RESPONSIBILITY FOR CARE

•Remind students to treat the power cable carefully

•Don’t store in backpacks

•Replacement costs and/or repairs are parent/guardian responsibility

•Any inappropriate use of language or sites as outlined in the “Augusta School Department’s Acceptable Use Policy and Cony’s consequences for improper use of laptops” may result in the loss of use HP ProBook privileges and possibly all computer resources in the school

•Students are closely supervised at school while using their laptops

INTERNET AND E-MAIL GUIDELINES•Network filters are in place at all

schools

•The Augusta School Department reserves the right to monitor all computer and internet activity by students – there is no expectation of privacy.

• Downloading with teacher permission only

TAKE HOME GUIDELINES•At least one parent must attend training.

• Parents & students must sign the Cony Use Policy Agreement for use in school/home (parent can opt-out)

• Each HP ProBook property of the state of Maine and is registered to Cony.

•Students transferring or leaving Cony must return their laptop to Cony.

• If the HP ProBook is stolen while signed out, it should be reported to the police and administration right away.

•The laptop, carrying case, and power adapter will be signed out & signed back in each day.

•If the HP ProBook is not returned to school each day, a parent/guardian will be called to bring the laptop to school.

•Parents/guardians should have student’s login password

•Laptops are to be used by the student only. Laptops cannot used by siblings or friends.

SOCIAL MEDIA CHALLENGES

• Students are attracted to Social Media outlets

• High supervision is necessary on social media sites (Get passwords and stay connected)

• Social media is fertile ground for bullying-Report instances to Administration/Police.

• Common Sense Media and the National Guard are instrumental in helping students with Digital Citizenship.
