There are a lot of great things in store for this year at Maple Mountain High!! When brainstorming for themes this past summer, our student council had the overall idea of LIFT -- no that is not an acronym, it's just LIFT… like strength training or lifting -- you need to work at it constantly to improve. We are very passionate about this idea because of how positive the meaning of the word LIFT is! The definition of LIFT is “to raise to a higher position or level,” and that is the theme our school will be celebrating this school year. Every term our school will be focusing on a different LIFT goal. For first term, we would like to focus on LIFT YOUR SPIRITS. The goal of first term’s theme is to get everyone HYPED and excited to be back at, and a part of, MMHS!!! We want you to think of Lift Your Spirits as everyone is always trying to have a good, positive attitude, and displaying huge amounts of MMHS school spirit at all activities, especially as we all get into the swing of coming back to school. We want everyone to have an amazing year at the Mountain! -- MMHS Student Council
MMHS Eagle HighFLIGHTS: 9-10-18
TENNIS PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: MMHS vs. Springville Player spotlight this week goes to Faith Livingston for her 3:15 minute match against Springville Tuesday, Sept 4. Her incredible determination won the match as she played consistent ground strokes with a lot of topspin to force the errors. 2nd Doubles Kaitlin Dixon/Tarlan Kelly won 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in another 3 set match with great cross court and volleys! MMHS vs Wasatch JV singles player Hannah Townsend outlasted her opponent with great shots to win 9-8 (2) in a tiebreaker and Doubles teams Meagan Newbold/Rebecca Whyte (8-4) and Alyssa Lunceford/Alexis Call (8-7) (5)had great teamwork to beat the Wasps.
Other Important Information:
Especially for Athletes Presentation
On Wed, Sept 12th, @ 9:30 a.m. (2nd period), MMHS will be hosting Dustin Smith, a well-known speaker,
author, and presenter – who will be giving a presentation on Suicide Prevention, Bullying, and Hazing. This
presentation will be held in our auditorium during 2nd period. Dustin’s presentation will be geared towards
athletes and the difference they can make in combatting these issues. The organization, Especially for
Athletes, is gaining traction throughout the state of Utah in fighting the outcomes of these difficult issues.
Since this is not a school-wide excused assembly, anyone may participate by signing up with a head coach of
their school sport, or in the main office with Mrs. Davis. Parents and members of our community are also
highly encouraged to attend.

*Important Attendance Information:
When checking out your student, please call ahead (or send a note with your student), to
speed up the check-out process.
If your student is going to a medical appointment during the school day, please request a
medical note from the doctor and bring to the attendance office. This way we can medically
excuse their absence, and will not go against their citizenship.
You may excuse your students by e-mailing our attendance secretary, Cheryl Davis,
Tardies: Parents are allowed to excuse 1st and 3rd period tardies ONLY. Parents may not
excuse students for 2nd and 4th period tardies. Students have the responsibility of getting to
class on time between classes. Parents may excuse a total of FIVE tardies per term.
You may also excuse your student by leaving a voicemail with Mrs. Davis, on her attendance
line, at any time, not just during school hours.
If your student was marked absent or tardy, and you feel it is in error, please have your
student visit with the teacher in that class to have that absence/tardy removed.
If students have problems with their attendance, they will receive an NC Notice every
Wednesday. Please have your student follow through with you when they received these
notices, and have you call to get these absences excused.
Anytime a parent excuses an absence, or you wonder if an NC was cleared, just pull up your
student’s SIS Student Summary and check their citizenship grade. If there is an “S” listed,
then everything is clear. If there is an “NC” listed, there is a problem, so just click on the “NC”
and you can view attendance struggles for that class, then you can call and excuse.
Remember that once you have excused an absence, it takes 24-hours for SIS to update.
Unless you need to check-out your student immediately, you may leave a message to excuse
your student’s absence. Our attendance secretary checks her voicemails throughout the day
and can take care of your requests promptly.
If your student has NC’s from previous years, especially senior students, these NC’s need to be
cleared as soon as possible so as not to affect their walking at graduation.
For additional attendance information, please refer to our student online handbook, which can
be accessed from our MMHS home page under STUDENTS (left-hand side of page), then
select “Student Handbook.”
*Letterman Jackets: Coleman Knitting Mills will be coming to the school on Thursday, September
13th, during lunch hours, and will be staying until school gets out, to fit for custom letter jackets. If
your student would like to purchase a jacket they will need to bring with them $100 in the form of cash
or check made out to Coleman Knitting Mills. In the fitting, your student will be custom sized for their
jacket, meaning, they will try on the jacket for size and additionally have the length of the body and
sleeves adjusted for a personal fit. This is offered at no additional cost. They will also have the
option to view different sports and club emblems to add to the jacket, as well as, choose their name,
letter, and year. Each letter jacket is manufactured in Coleman Knittings Ogden mill, cutting out the
middleman which allows for the jackets to be priced at a lower cost. Jackets start at $193.00 with
each additional emblem adding to the cost. $100 deposit will be made at the fitting with the remaining
balance being owed upon completion of the jacket. Jackets will be delivered by Coleman Knitting to
the school in 8-10 weeks. They are guaranteed by Christmas, which makes for a great gift!

ALC STUDENTS
MMHS students who will be attending the ALC need to be aware of the following:
When our school is on an assembly schedule, please remember that the ALC bell and bus schedules DO
NOT change. They run on their normal schedules each day!!!
The bus picks up our ALC students in the bus lane, which is located outside, at the end of our D Hall in
front of the Field House. Please be prompt when meeting the bus!!! They run on a very tight schedule
trying to pick-up high school students throughout the district and transporting them to the ALC building
located in Salem, and cannot wait for students who are running late. Students who miss the ALC bus
are responsible for working out their own transportation to the ALC – the bus will not return to pick-up
late students.
We have ALC bell and bus schedules in the front office and, for your convenience, we have included
both of those schedules at the end of this newsletter.
Please always check in the front office if you have questions or need assistance. Also, the ALC phone
number is: 801-489-2833.
THERE WILL BE NO ALC CLASSES ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH, BECAUSE OF THE DISTRICT’S
EARLY-OUT SCHEDULE.
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE
Our first Parent/Teacher Conference will be held on Wednesday, September 26th from 3:30-7:30pm, in the

there!

We have student bike racks located by the tennis courts and by the auditorium. Please use these two
designated areas to lock and secure your bikes. We ask that you do not lock bikes to fences, posts, or other
areas on campus. Thank you!
