International Summer School 2015 Faculty of Humanities, Languages and Social Science
What will you study? The HLSS International summer school will take place atour city centre campus and is comprised of lectures,workshops, seminars, and guided visits; all of which aredelivered by expert teaching and research staff. Below isan example of subjects that will be taught during thethree-week programme:
Manchester in HistoryThis session will explore the history of Manchester andthe North West through lectures, guided tours andmuseum visits.
The Way British Politics WorksIn this session we will engage in lively debate shaped bylectures on the British political system.
Music, Fashion & Youth Culture This class will provide an introduction to British culture &society with a special focus on youth culture.
Multimedia JournalismThis session explores the newly emerging field ofMultimedia Journalism through a short lecture, practicalworkshops and guest lecture.
International Relations and Global CommunicationDrawing on a range of disciplines from IR, politics, mediaand communications, we will explore the interplay ofstates, NGOs, media networks, and new mediatechnological developments in our globalized world
British Literature Creative ArtsWriting workshops – Poetry/Intensive writing (Sub groups)
The Culture of Britishness & the Politics of Identity –Multicultural BritainIn this session, we explore British identities and Britishculture(s) in the contemporary moment. The major focus ison the negotiation of ‘Britishness’ in a multi-ethnic anddiverse society.
LanguageLinguistics & Cross-Cultural Communications
Football Culture and CommunityFootball plays a major role in shaping British identity.
