2017 MNPS GIVING CAMPAIGN

As the 2017 Employee Giving Campaign kicks off, Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools asks

that you give back by participating.

All schools and departments that hit a minimum 80% participation rate will receive a bagel breakfast as a thank you and to show

gratitude for the continued growth and efforts in supporting our community.

Let’s work together to achieve great things.

Community Health Charities - 12000

Community Health Charities is a nonprofit that raises awareness and resources for health and wellness by connecting more than 2,000 of the

most trusted health charities across the United States with more than 17 million caring donors through workplace giving campaigns, causes, wellness programs, employee engagement, and strategic partnerships.

Health has never been such a priority: 77% of U.S. workers suffer from at least one long-term health condition, ranging from cancer to asthma –

chances are someone you know is affected.

Through the MECCC campaign, your gift can help build stronger, healthier communities.

We couldn’t imagine a world without the Civil Rights Acts, the Women’s Right to Vote, or Americans with Disabilities Act. These incredible social change movements are proof that, collectively, we can

create social justice and equity in our society.

We celebrate these achievements, but there is still work to be done. The challenges we face today are no less complex and numerous, for instance, did you know that:

CommSharesTN

Groups finding furever homes for animals, providing no/low cost spay and neuter clinics, and working to make TN a no-kill state by 2025.

Groups helping those with disabilities live autonomous lives, keep a job, and who are helping parents navigate the education system.

Groups focused on protecting our environment by cleaning/preserving our waterways and planting trees.

Groups ensuring local arts and media are not lost to history but are vibrant and viable expressions of art that deserve preserving.

Groups working to end home-lessness, fund education, and provide assistance to those who need it.

Groups working to create and sustain overall peace and justice in our communities by supporting immigrant rights, fair pay, and more.

All groups help shape our communities one legislative bill, company/school policy, disenfranchised group at a time to create stronger, safer communities; healthier environment; and empowered individuals.

Thank you, Metro Government employees, for your generosity. Know that we are guided by the principle that “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” It’s a quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. - words that remind us that we are connected.

> 6,500 children are in Tennessee state foster care > 18% of Tennesseans live below the poverty level

> 40% of Tennessee streams are unfit for recreation> 28,000 Tennesseans do not have health insurance

The Metropolitan Nashville Education Foundation (MNEF), the charitable arm of the Metropolitan Nashville Education Association (MNEA), administers two funds that grant three scholarships to graduates of Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools intending to become public school teachers. The Metropolitan Nashville Education Fund General

Scholarship and the MNEF Academies of Nashville Scholarship are granted on a one-time basis to freshman college students to help with expenses. The General Scholarship

is available to any MNPS graduate while the Academies of Nashville Scholarship is designated for graduates of the MNPS Teaching Academies.

The Johnella H. Martin Fund is named after the distinguished former president of MNEA and MNEF who was dedicated to teachers, students and the newly created Metropolitan Nashville Public School System. The Johnella H. Martin Fund is a renewable scholarship awarded annually to a student for up to four years of undergraduate study in education

or for up to five years if enrolled in a formal five-year higher education program in education.

If you are interested in donating to the Metropolitan Nashville Education Foundation, please indicate the amount of your donation in the MNEF box on your pledge form. Gifts of any amount are welcomed. One hundred percent of donations to MNEF will be used

for college scholarships for MNPS graduates and will be directed to the appropriate fund at the discretion of the MNEF Board of Directors.

Contact Erick Huth at 615.726.1499 or [email protected] if you have any questions.

Our mission is to ensure that every single child in Nashville has access to a great public education that prepares him or her fully for college, work, and life. Nashville’s success

as a city is directly tied to our ability to give all kids – regardless of the zip code in which they wake up – a chance to get a great public education. It is the one thing that we, as a community, can do to lift kids and families out of poverty, provide a level playing field for

all children, and ensure Nashville is able to meet the demands of the new economy.

A donation made directly to NPEF supports our Innovation Fund and the creation of a city-wide vision for our schools that is a cradle-to-career approach. We are working to improve early childhood learning and literacy, postsecondary access and completion, retention of our best teachers, and access to resources for our underserved students.

We also have three dedicated funds you may choose to donate to that support ALL MNPS schools:

You may also choose to direct your gift to a specific school by selecting from the codes on the following page.
