MOBILE CARE CHICAGOCHILDREN’S MEDICAL CARE
2017 ANNUAL REPORT
DEAR FRIENDS,For the Board Members, some of whom have been with Mobile Care Chicago since its inception 18 years ago, the period covered by this annual report will go down in the annals as one of our brightest.
Our new Dental Program, finding its legs last year, began to soar. In its short history, the Dental Program has already provided dental care to over 14,000 low-income children. Nearly half (47%) of the children we see initially have dental decay. Yet, we have more than halved that figure (down to 17%) among the ones that have been with us since the beginning.
And the Asthma Vans, long beloved locally by the over ten thousand families that have relied on them over the years, received two national distinctions. We were honored to be the recipients of the 2016 Hospital Charitable Services Award and the prestigious 2017 Premier Cares Award for reducing ER utilization for pediatric asthma by 84%. Already, programs across the country are replicating the model we developed in Chicago, bringing hope to other low-income families in need of specialty care.
In the end, Mobile Care Chicago is an organization built to address basic needs. Children need to breathe. They need to be able to chew. Alongside each child’s development, as they learn, make friends, explore their potential, and, at last, thrive, preventative medicine must protect them. And, in moments of highest anxiety and need, all children must have a dependable provider to turn to. Medical care is fundamental to the development of our future neighbors and friends. I hope you will continue to join us in this mission.
Yours in service,
Jonathan WeatherlyBoard Chair
