Sandisk Co-Founder and retired CEo dr. Eli harari Awarded National Medal of technology and innovation By President obama

SanDisk announced that Dr. Eli Harari, co-founder, and retired chairman and chief

executive offi cer of SanDisk, was awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation by the National Science Foundation for his signifi cant contributions towards the development and proliferation of fl ash memory.

The award represents the nation’s highest honor for advancing science and technology by recognizing those who have made lasting contributions that have created a greater understanding of the world and improved the lives of many. U.S. President Barack Obama conferred the medal at a ceremony held today at the White House, which was attended by leading dignitaries and other medal laureates.

Dr. Harari co-founded SanDisk more than 25 years ago with the vision of using fl ash memory to store data in mobile products. Flash memory – an ideal storage medium due to its small size, ruggedness and low power consumption – has since become ubiquitous in mobile devices, and is now found in digital cameras, smartphones, tablets, thin-and-light laptops and other portable products. Flash memory is also increasingly transforming datacenters, enabling them to accelerate the processing and analysis of vast and growing amounts of data, thereby helping to make social media, online media-streaming, real-time business analytics and other industries both

Government in favor of data tariff reduction

Data tariff is expected to reduce further with the scaling up of data services by way of innovation and surge in content. While speaking during the inaugural session of Broadband Tech India 2014, Shri AK Bhargava, Advisor (Technology), Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications & IT, Government of India said that Government of India is in favor of reducing data tariff , as the country is getting ready for 3G and 4G spectrum auctions.

The announcement comes as the Department of Telecommunications is preparing to roll out spectrum auctions, which is expected to intensify

the competition between service providers, which may push up spectrum prices.

“With the increase in the availability of spectrum, data service will explode as fi ber to site is being laid simultaneously. This will result in more public-private projects which will meet the needs of all sections of the society,” said Mr. Shyam P Mardikar, Chief-Strategy, Architecture & Engineering, Bharti Airtel.

“Due to the emergence of wireless mobility as the single largest factor in the Indian telecom industry, we will witness a growth of 35 to 45 percent in voice and data traffi c,” said Mr. Rajan Mathews, Director-General, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI). He further said that the Companies had to reorient services in terms of mobility so to expand at a greater pace. According to him, the high government charges act as a constraint in the growth of mobile service. “As a balancing act, the USO Fund contribution should be reduced to one per cent of revenues instead of the current fi ve per cent,” he added.

While defi ning digital empowerment, Mr. Vinit Goenka, National Co-Convener, IT Cell, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) said that his party is aiming at creating digital literacy countrywide so that there could be a direct communication between the government and citizens at all levels. “The digital revolution would be realized when the ‘last villager buys his grocery online,” he added.

With imports of digital equipment set to grow to US$100 million by 2017, C-DoT, the research organization of the DoT is making signifi cant contributions to “Make in India” campaign said Shri Vipin Tyagi, Executive Director, Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT).

“New government has shown promise but there is further scope for facilitating policy environment for enhancing Broadband penetration to cover 30% of our population by 2016 to optimally leverage technology and achieve throughputs at lower costs”, said Mr. Sameer Rawal, Director- Strategy & Marketing, Huawei India.

neoteric & Group companies pledge support to ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’

Expressing solidarity with the nation-wide ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ campaign,

members from the Head Offi ce of neoteric and its group companies conducted a drive, ‘Pledge with us to make India shine!’ early on 5th December, in and around the premises of Matulya Centre, Lower Parel . This is in keeping with the vision of contributing to a clean, healthy and fl ourishing India. Over 90 team members from across diff erent departments and teams including the CEO and Directors together came out on the streets with broomsticks and dustbins in hand, in a bid to clean up the entire neighbourhood and surroundings. They urged all the corporates in the building and the entire IT fraternity at large,

to abstain from throwing any garbage/waste on the road or street but dispose it only in dustbins or suitable locations provided for the same. This drive is in continuation to neoteric & its group companies’ ‘2nd Home’ Cleanliness Drive which was launched during this Diwali with an objective of ensuring the upkeep of cleanliness in their

‘offi ce’- their 2nd Home. It seeks to consistently ensure clean work-stations and rides on the mantra of ‘Reduce-Reuse-Recycle’ of paper-waste, garbage-waste and technology-waste. Staying true to the belief that ‘Cleanliness begins at Home’, the organization launched the internal drive and after its successful launch, extended it to the nationwide ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’. Leading by its own example, neoteric has ‘challenged’ its neighbouring corporate offi ces to clean up their spaces better than them and in turn, create a chain of challenges. This neoteric initiative was covered by Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM to encourage other corporates to participate in similar drives( please refer to the enclosed the audio-clip ). Dipti Shah, Director- HR said, “Supporting this national campaign is in line with our organization’s focus on doing responsible business and encouraging team-members to continue being responsible citizens. Our branch offi ces have also joined us in this eff ort and moving forward, we seek to continue sensitizing corporates to take on the onus of ensuring cleanliness within and outside their own offi ce premises as well as that of their branch-offi ces, if any.”

Mobility magazine in a conversation with Mr. Chen Ji, Michael Senior Director of Product & Marketing

(APAC) Mr. Chen Ji, Michael, aged 39, is the Senior

Director of Product & Marketing (APAC) BU India, Alcatel Mobile of the Company. Mr. Chen joined the company in 2005. He has 16 years of experience in consumer electronics which includes 11 years in Mobile Phone Industry. He had been the senior director of global product portfolio of the company, leading the product portfolio management and product defi nition and development job in the company. Mr. Chen graduated from the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in 1998, and got his Bachelor's degree in Business English. In 2010, he was selected by the company to join the Eagle Elite Project of TCL Group (A Leadership Training Program). In 2011, he was again selected by TCL Group to join the HP Elite (High Potential Leader) Project. In an interaction with Mobility magazine, Chen shares the philosophy, outlook and mission of their Alcatel brand.

At Alcatel 2013-14 In 2013, globally we shipped 55 million units

of mobile phones, and we shipped around 2 million units in India. In 2014, we also brought many models to Indian market. Personally, I like every one of them, they are addressing diff erent segments of the market, especially for the mass market. People can always fi nd the model that suits them. And all our products are with very good quality and they have been proven in the global markets. Recently, we launched a new Model, FLASH, which is a selfi e phone with very good front and rear cameras. With powerful Octa core, it’s a very good and aff ordable smartphone, and we believe that it will be successful in the market.

ChallengesIndia is a big market, and now, most of the

mobile phone brands are taking India as their

Alcatel is all set to GAIN market share in india

strategic market; currently, our brand presence is not big. The biggest challenge to us I think is the more and more severe price competition in the market, and I believe this is also the biggest challenge to all the brands. But we have confi dence to overcome this challenge: fi rst, we have very big global business to support us in the cost optimization, and we have world leading class supply chain, and we have our own manufacturing site, which can produce over 120 million mobile phone per year to enable us to produce high quality and low cost products, and we have a very promising international brand with a lot of excellent designs in France and Italy. With all these, we believe we can have a good opportunity to win more market share in India.

Market ShareRight now, we are listed as top 7 mobile

phone brands in the worldwide market, and in India, we are new to the market, and yet have a big presence. We are targeting to become the top 5th brand soon in Indian market.

Strong points of Alcatel Samrtphones

Good Quality, Nice Design and Reasonable price. Our fi rst merit is quality. Good quality is expected by all the end users no matter whether

it is an entry level phone or a premium smartphone. Our products are validated by the most critical testing system of international operators in Europe, USA, and other Asia Pacifi c operators. Good design: a lot of our designs are created by international design teams in France, Italy and China. On top of these, we focus on bringing simple-to-use mobile experience to all the consumers.

EcommerceOnline business model is a new

opportunity and a unique business environment. Online retailers might impact the traditional channel, but I don’t think they will become a threat. I see online as a new business channel with its own merits and opportunities.

ServicesThe key job we have done in after-sales-

services is we already set up more than 550 after sales service points across India including the collection points, that bring a very convenient service to consumer, and we are continuously improving our after-sales-services and making sure they will bring good satisfaction to end users who buy our products.

Strategy for indiaI think business opportunities are available

in all diff erent channels. At present, traditional channel still occupies more than 90% of the mobile phone market, which of course we will not give up. On the other hand, online business is growing very fast, so we are also developing our business online. We have a very good experience in managing our business over diff erent channels and won’t hurt either of them.

Final WordALCATEL ONETOUCH would like to say Hi to

all the Indian people, and we are appreciated that you choose ACLATEL ONETOUCH products, and we are doing our best to bring you more good quality, valuable and exciting products in India and welcome you to become our long-time friends.

Every year we expect something special and big from iPhone. And this year also as was expected, Apple’s newest fl agship

iPhone comes out better than its predecessors in nearly every conceivable way. These large-screen phones have proved so popular that Apple is now forced to get with the times, stretching the iPhone beyond its original 4-inch diagonal frame.

dESiGNiPhone 6 is a massive departure from

traditional iPhone design , it's without a doubt the most drastic change to date by Apple. Apple fi nally bowed to pressure to provide users with the option of using a bigger display, as well as the usual improvements in performance, camera quality, and new additions such as NFC. And though the iPhone 6's dimensions are quite diff erent from the 5S, the aesthetics are distinctively Apple. The buttons are—for the most part—in the same places they used to be, and even the layout of the front face of the phone is virtually identical to the iPhone 5S. Even the fi ngerprint scanner returns to Apple's latest fl agship. This iPhone is slightly thinner than before, but it feels much thinner; part of that's the increased screen size, and partly it's the curved design. Glass from the front folds ever so slightly around the edges, and the sharp industrial hard edges of the iPhone 5 and 5S are completely gone.

PErForMANCEApple now has two larger iPhones: one

big, the other even bigger. The iPhone 6 sports a 4.7-inch screen, while the iPhone 6 Plus goes full "phablet" with a 5.5-inch display. The new iPhone feels good to hold, beautifully solid, the metal back and glass front are smoothed and comfortable. iPhone 6's 4.7-inch IPS display looks excellent: vivid, rich, and bigger than before. . The display's 1,344x750-pixel resolution is higher than the iPhone 5/5C/5S' 1,136x640, but it has the same 326ppi pixel density. The new A8 processor on the iPhone 6 isn't quite the quantum leap the A7 was. It's a 64-bit dual-core processor just like the A7, but Apple claims a 25 percent boost in speed and a 50 percent graphics boost over last year's iPhone 5S. And another big improvement in iPhone 6 is iOS 8, though the aesthetics are the same, the control scheme is virtually identical, and the App Store is the same that you're used to. Apple wants its users to be able to upgrade to the latest platform without getting lost. With the latest version of iOS 8, Apple has continued to sand down the rougher edges of last year's iOS 7, while off ering users options such as NFC, mobile payments, and better customization. All credit goes to Apple for reinventing the mobile app and

creating a developer program that facilitates the creation of all this wonderful software. Though on paper it seems like it might have the exact same 8 megapixel sensor as what you'd fi nd in the 5s, it's quite a bit better in practice. Additionally, the camera is more capable when it comes to video. Though the iPhone 5S already saw the addition of slow-motion video with the update to iOS 8, the iPhone 6 can also shoot time-lapse video, as well as 1080p HD content at 60 frames per second. Shots are acceptable even in low light, as Apple's noise reduction algorithm does a fi ne job of keeping noise low while retaining most detail.

PriCE : INR 53,500VErdiCt

Overall, the new iPhone 6 is likely the most gorgeous smartphone I have ever used. The full glass and aluminum construction is phenomenal, the fl uid look of the rounded edges is masterful, and the handset is impossibly thin. It’s amazing to look at and it feels terrifi c in the hand.

Kingston, a US-based company known worldwide for making affordable SD cards, SSDs, memory modules and

USB flash drives, under the HyperX brand which caters to gamers introduced new product line of headsets. Kingston HyperX Cloud is also a gaming headset. Kingston has used the expertise of Qpad, a pro gaming gear manufacturer, to create the HyperX Cloud.

Features and designThe Kingston HyperX Cloud is made of

various materials including plastic, leather and aluminum. It is a good-looking product with the right combination of quality material and design. Lookwise we can say that the Kingston HyperX Cloud is a complete quality headset. Though it is a budget headset, the packaging of this headset impressed me a lot. It has foam enclosure that houses the headphones, additional velour ear cushions, detachable microphone, control box with 1 m cable and an airline adapter. Concealed inside a compartment beneath the foam enclosure are a deluge of additional attachments including a 2 m extension cable, a smartphone adapter, a headset splitter and a mesh bag. Over all, the end result is a pair of headphones that looks and feels premium.

Performance:The hinges holding the two ear cups are made

of aluminum, the headband has leather padding and the pre-attached ear cushions are also made of leather. The rest of the body is plastic, but I must say that it is very comfortable and perfect for your long gaming sessions. The headphones weigh 350g. We listened to music across a variety of genres and found that the Kingston HyperX Cloud headset gives you a mind blowing performance in all aspects. We can easily say that this is a value-for-money product for gamers and music lovers. The only point that goes against the Kingston HyperX Cloud is its surround sound capability, other than that these headphones give you good bass thump and doesn't distort at

any level. Vocals are crystal clear and the highs are sprightly too. I played Max Payne 3 and it gives me a desired output.

Price: INR. 8500

Verdict: Kingston HyperX Cloud headset is certainly a

value for money headset with great design and audio performance.

Pros: Price, design, audio output

Cons: Surround sound not that great.

The Indian entertainment industry is growing rapidly and the world watching with curiosity. Economic

liberalization, influx in the demand for leisure and entertainment, global media giants entering the market have all propelled the growth rate of the industry.

A surge in mass Internet usage is expected with the spread of 3G and 4G services. In conjunction with the country’s mobile phone user base, more than 750 million subscribers, the scale and impact of potential digital content consumption is enormous. This media and entertainment companies, foreign and domestic, with an exciting opportunity to develop digital businesses that cater to a new generation of Indian digital consumers. Alongside the need for curated content increases simultaneously.

To succeed in this market, there are several factors that global companies need to take into account. While there are many opportunities to tap, there are also unique challenges in the areas of content localization, distribution, pricing, regulations and piracy. The key strengths and growth drivers in the home entertainment segment are digitisation and the growth in the Smart-TV market.

Digitization has been instrumental in growth and success of the entertainment industry, thereby bringing about a paradigm shift in key indicators. Phased initiatives by authorities with a view to harness the power of technology and create a framework have in fact propelled the growth of broadcasting landscape in our country. On successful completion of the digitisation process, there would be complete closure of analogue transmission, thereby facilitating innovations, empowering value creation and hence increase profits at each level in the value chain. Carriage fees are estimated to drop further and drive growth in ARPUs, thereby increasing profitability and allowing content producers to focus on better content. Digitisation has enabled better monetisation for the film-industry by easing the distribution process. Mandatory digitization of the TV distribution infrastructure has triggered a revolution of digital cable and

under the affordability bracket of Rs 0.5 million annual family income do not have PCs. On the other hand, about 100 million Indian households are connected through the cable television network while there are about 64 million DTH subscribers at the end of March 2014. Thus, there is a huge potential to develop the market with smart TVs.

Going by the report, low purchasing power, low rural literacy, poor infrastructure and lack of local language product customisation have been the major impediments to rural PC penetration.

Smart-TV Box is an unequivocal solution for this need, providing information and entertainment at a cost-effective and user-friendly manner. The market potential for infotainment devices is huge with a plentitude of opportunities in product-innovation and corporate alliances.

A better home infotainment system will lead to life augmentation for customers and value sustainability for companies plunging into this domain. On the whole, this will enhance India's face in the race with the other developed nations of the world.

DTH, and created the need for expansion and improvements. We are moving quickly to an all digital world where most films are shot on digital format, distributed digitally, marketed through social networking sites (SNS) and film tickets are sold through online booking platforms and made available on websites providing Video-on-Demand (VOD) services. Though monetisation of content on digital platforms remains a concern in the short term, the industry is buoyant about its long term potential.

Smart TVs seem to be changing current TV watching pattern in the global market by intelligent broadcasting and communication convergence services, but it must be said that less that 1% smart TV owners wield the ‘smart-features’ either due to insufficient awareness or due to lack of supportive software enhancements in devices. Innovations today are driven towards convergence of technologies and integration of business models. There is a paradigm shift in broadcasting and communication industry where inventions are no more limited to developing smart phone or enhancing features in televisions but in re-organizing, collapsing, renovating and reinventing the two industries to the new ‘smart paradigm’ within and outside the industry from terminal, contents, network to business strategy. Smart TV is likely to take the center position in life innovation, which arises from the smart paradigm.

Smart tV and Smart tV boxes, the next big thing in the home entertainment

It is essential for companies to realize the segments in the Indian home entertainment market. While the television manufactures cater to a versatile market with a multi-segment marketing strategy, a segment desirous of a value-for-money infotainment device remains refused. Manufacturers Association for Information Technology (MAIT) and KPMG report titled ‘Indian market place—IT the unrealized potential,’ stated that the current PC penetration in rural India is limited to approximately 9 million households whereas approx 14 million households who fall

Digitization has been instrumental in growth and success of the entertainment industry, thereby bringing about a paradigm shift in key indicators.

Consumer confidence to shop online will continue to rise and India will have 100 million online shoppers by

2016. This was revealed by Google in its annual online shopping growth trends report compiled by combining an extensive research conducted by Forrester Consulting and Google search trends. The report revealed that India’s e-tailing market is at an inflection point and will see rapid growth to become a $15 bln market by 2016.

The research conducted by Forrester Consulting by interviewing 6859 respondents covering both online buyers and non-buyers in 50 cities/towns, revealed that online shoppers base will grow 3x by 2016, and over 50 million new buyers will come from Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. The confidence to shop online was on the rise as 71% non-buyers from Tier 1 and 2 cities said they plan to shop online in the next 12 months. The findings also revealed that women buyers in Tier 1 cities were more engaged in online shopping, and outspend men by 2x. Women were also responsible for driving growth in

categories like apparels, beauty & skincare, home furnishing, baby products and jewelry. This research finding was consistent with search query trends seen on Google with search query volume for apparels growing at 64% (YoY), baby care 53% (YoY), beauty & personal care 52% (YoY) and home furnishing 49% (YoY).

Looking at the growth trends of the above mentioned categories, the report also projected that 40 million women are estimated to shop online in India by 2016. 2/3rd of online shoppers highlighted Convenience and Variety as major reasons to shop online in addition to discounts. Over 60% respondents also felt that buying online was directly correlated to social status. Mobile phone emerged as an important access device for online shoppers with 1 out of 3 online buyers transacting on their mobile phones in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. In Tier 3 cities, 1 in 2 buyers said they use mobile phones to purchase products online. This was also reflected in Google search trends with queries via mobile phones growing 3x in the last three years. Today, over 50% of shopping

queries are coming from mobile phones; this share was as low as 24% two years back.

Speaking at the launch of the report, Nitin bawankule, industry Director for Ecomm-erce, local and classifieds, google india, said, “The consumer confidence to shop online has grown significantly during last year and a half, and our objective was to understand the factors that are driving this growth and arrive at indicators that will help propel the Industry forward. The fast evolving mobility landscape has the potential to transform businesses and the world at large. It has enabled the creation

of a collaborative, interactive environment for workplaces that transcends geographical boundaries. In today’s cut-throat competition, enterprises are realizing the power of mobility for anytime, anywhere communication. A mobile workforce has become an imperative to meet the growing customer demands in a real-time, efficient and effective manner.

According to Manoj Khilnani who leads marketing initiatives for BlackBerry Enterprise Solutions in India and is responsible for developing marketing programs, enterprise channel management and business development, “Moving beyond boardroom discussions, mobility has emerged as a top priority across enterprises of different sizes and sectors. According to a recent BlackBerry-CMR ‘India Enterprise Mobility’ report, 71% of organizations either have a mobility policy or are in the process of crafting one, clearly indicating a strong shift to mobility.”

According to Adrian De Luca, chief technology officer of Hitachi Data Systems Asia Pacific, a key impetrative will be the increasingly critical intersection between business and information technology.

"The era of Business-Defined IT is here, and the time for IT to embrace the third platform that is built on mobile devices, cloud services, social networks and big data analytics is now. The CIO must respond to these requirements and become an architect and broker of business services rather than a technology-builder focused on data centre infrastructure," said De Luca.

And according to Dhanya Thakkar, Managing Director, India & SEA, Trend Micro, “The Internet is an arrangement of connected, yet autonomous networks and devices. Each device or host, uses protocols or set of rules in order to communicate with other devices within a network. Simply put, the Internet is used to send and receive information quickly between devices and people all around the world. While the Internet of Everything—or the concept that interconnects people, data, things and processes—is projected to play a rather large part in the future of technology, it still lacks development in terms of utility and security.”

In 2012, the number of connected devices surpassed the human population. While some tech experts believe that the IoE still has to prove itself and that much credence is needed to baptize the concept into the present landscape, the number of smart devices is still projected to reach 50 billion by 2020.

In the wake of frequent security breaches and data theft, security and control of devices will be the key requirements for implementing a robust mobility solution. Business agility across functions especially customer facing teams and increased productivity will be the key drivers of enterprise mobility in the coming years. CIOs need to evaluate a combination of

management scenarios to cover their mobility needs, which vary based on geography, compliance requirements, role, risk profile and several other factors.

The upcoming trend of COBO or Corporate Owned Business Only, will fix some of the concerns related to BYOD. The COBO model offers businesses a new way of acknowledging and embracing consumerization by giving some control back to IT without depriving users of the choice of devices that make them more productive.

Enterprise applications will continue to be strong drivers of enterprise mobility, creating new ways of working, and transforming existing business processes. The integration of

mobile applications with businesses will drive a new wave of productivity and efficiency in enterprises, Manoj added.

Smart City:Smart city initiatives will drive greater

investment in the Internet of Things

Manoj KhilnaniAs the ecosystem matures and more players come in, Internet of Things (IoT) is all set to become a reality. 2014 laid the foundation for the next phase of connectivity. Data management, analytics and cloud intelligence will become critical focus areas for enterprises of the future as IoT (Internet of Things) becomes a reality.

development of intelligent social infrastructure solutions that combine advanced analytics, the IoT and machine-to-machine interaction.

According to Manoj of Blackberry a smart city is one that is connected, has high living standards and uses technology as its backbone. Sustainable economic development and wise management of natural resources, through participatory action and engagement form the basics of a model smart city. Data analytics to provide efficient solutions to management, wireless sensor networks to deliver data on a real-time basis, automated building security and surveillance systems, requiring minimal human intervention, and Wi-Fi-powered open spaces and houses that ensure always-on, high-speed connectivity are some attributes of a Smart City. Smart cities are connected with Internet to enable more productivity, features and efficiency in the daily lives of the inhabitants.

Our existing cities need to get smarter to keep up with the burgeoning urban population, while the mid-sized cities need better living standards and rural areas need basic access to utilities. The concept of smart city is influenced by the idea of expanding urban hubs which would leverage technology to provide better electricity and water supply, improve sanitation and recycling, put proper traffic and transport management systems in place. Technology will play a crucial role in the development of smart cities in terms of network, mobile devices, applications, solutions and a complete connected experience. In an emerging market like India, mobile devices will be the enabler in the development of smart cities. M2M (Machine 2 Machine) technologies will play a significant role along with the delivery platform as the point of access. Security concerns and data management will also be important focus areas as we move ahead to the next phase of connectivity.

The expansion of urban hubs and modernization of mid-sized cities will provide job opportunities to the youth and ease the pressure off the metropolitan cities. This will bring down migration figures from rural areas to a few limited urban cities. Infrastructure revamp and development of real estate will mobilize

employment opportunities. Additionally, this will spur innovation, enable economic upliftment and foster entrepreneurship.

Challenges & Key security issues

According to Manoj in this increasingly connected world, technologies that connect to machines and devices for seamless communication and interaction are gaining greater prominence than those that connect people to people. Connected devices are rapidly becoming the norm in the enterprise space and simply put, the potential of M2M technology is limitless. The ecosystem of connected devices and machines will grow exponentially in the coming times.

Internet-enabled smartphones, watches, white goods, home entertainment systems, controlled lighting systems, reading devices, robotic healthcare systems, etc are all bringing together a connected world. Smartphones and mobility devices in the hands of the common man today have the potential to spearhead the IoT movement. As per Gartner, IoT will include 26 billion units installed by 2020, and by that time, IoT product and service suppliers will generate incremental revenue exceeding $300 billion, mostly in services. While IDC expects the technology and services revenue of IoT to expand from $4.8 trillion in 2012 to $7.3 trillion by 2017 at an 8.8% CAGR; Cisco estimates that 50 billion devices and objects will be connected to the Internet by 2020. With the smartphone and internet revolution, India is not far behind in the larger scheme of IoT.

With device proliferation and a hyper connected ecosystem, there is a data deluge. Therefore, with this huge opportunity, there is the added risk of data theft, leakage, malware and much more. A small breach in an unsecure connected device can lead to the breakdown of an entire system. The influx of devices connected to the Internet also increases the risk of attacks far more widely than in the case of regular cyber-attacks. The fact that the

number and utility of smart, connected devices will only increase means that the boundaries of the modern organization are being stretched to include hundreds or even thousands of end points possessing access to the most precious assets, such as intellectual property and other sensitive personal information. Security in this environment cannot be an afterthought. It must be built-in at every layer -- hardware, software and network infrastructure -- to ensure end-to-end protection. There is a need to look at the complete lifecycle of the security architecture from design through to implementing products and technologies and managing the network over time.

While IoT has the power to change our future forever, if we do not lay a secure and reliable foundation, it could also lead to catastrophic damages. Moving beyond building specific products or solutions, the next steps in IoT should be drafting standardized policies,

security frameworks and infrastructures. IoT is not a fad and is here to stay. We need to connect and invest responsibly for the next technology revolution.

BlackBerry is uniquely positioned to be a leading player in the M2M and IoT space with QNX and our open mobility ecosystem approach. BlackBerry and QNX have a long history of developing solutions that can create a connected ecosystem of devices and machines. Solutions that connect and support the IoT, including embedded platforms, networks and devices, are at the core of QNX offerings. Over the past 30 years, QNX software has become a big part of everyday life. People encounter QNX-controlled systems whenever they drive, shop, watch TV, use the Internet or even turn on a light. Its ultra-reliable nature means QNX software is the preferred choice for life-critical systems such as air traffic control systems, surgical equipment, and nuclear power plants. Global leaders such as Audi, Siemens, General Electric, Cisco and Lockheed Martin depend on QNX technology for their in-car electronics, medical devices, industrial automation systems, network routers and other mission- or life-critical applications.

We are already witnessing steady interest and traction from the automobile and healthcare sectors in India. Given the huge opportunity, it is just a matter of time before IoT defines our existence, as we know it today.

The mobile explosion will require the technology infrastructure to be more data-driven

Over the past 5 years, IT organizations and cloud service providers have been investing in object storage technologies to protect and

preserve data for longer periods of time. A critical foundation for this is data-driven storage that enables enterprises to manage multi-tenancy, extend metadata to enable linkages to other data sets, and carry out data deduplication and compression to curb growing costs.

With data now moving through various cloud models, these capabilities also have to be made available beyond the 4 walls of the data centre. Enterprises have to fi nd ways to enable intelligent and effi cient remote access to applications and data, and allow information to be shared conveniently via intelligent devices while ensuring that sensitive data is protected.

With new regulations governing data privacy and protection, businesses will increase compliance-related investments. Governments across Asia Pacifi c are introducing new privacy regulations or updating existing ones. In the past 2 years, countries such as Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand have either enacted or enhanced privacy laws, requiring compliance with data privacy/confi dentiality rules. For enterprises, this presents a growing challenge with the rapid proliferation of information from multiple platforms and channels.

"Businesses today must be extra vigilant in protecting vital customer information as they grapple with the exponential growth in structured and unstructured data within the organization," said De Luca.

On Security landscape Dhanya Thakkar, Managing Director, India & SEA, Trend Micro elaborates that the Internet is an arrangement of connected, yet autonomous networks and devices. Each device or host uses protocols or set of rules in order to communicate with other devices within a network. Simply put, the Internet is used to send and receive information quickly between devices and people all around the world. While the Internet of Everything (IoE)—or the concept that interconnects people, data, things and processes—is projected to play a rather large part in the future of technology, it still lacks development in terms of utility and security.

In 2012, the number of connected devices surpassed the human population. While some tech experts believe that the IoE still has to prove itself and that much credence is needed to baptize the concept into the present landscape, the number of smart devices is still projected to reach 50 billion by 2020.

Additionally, as much as our enthusiasm bemuses industry players, we need to be aware that cybercriminals are also preparing to cast their nets toward relevant IoE vulnerabilities. But where do you stand in the web of all things?

Let’s say when you hit your favorite café; fi rst things fi rst: you pull out your trusty

device, whether it’s a laptop, tablet or phone, you enable your Internet connection and then go online. Once you’re connected, you’re entitled to a world of information where everything is virtually possible and potentially dangerous too. But it isn’t all just plug-and-play; communication between devices and networks involves a complex system of layers, protocols and data. Since the language we use is vastly diff erent from the language a computer uses, the messages need to be translated from alphabetic signals to a code that goes through several series of connections such as cloud layers, session, router and link layers. If unsecured, these layers could be attacked and used as infection vectors by cybercriminals.

For example, a typical exchange between you and the cashier in the café would compose of you ordering a drink while the cashier ticks the specifi cs: tall double-shot macchiato, skimmed milk and no whipped cream. The cashier then passes your order to the barista but upon receiving your drink, you notice a huge dollop of whipped cream on your coff ee. What went wrong? In order to execute a successful transaction, the communication between you, the cashier and the barista should begin and end with the right information. In this example, somewhere in the middle of the order, someone obviously made a mistake, botching the order altogether. The same goes with the Internet. To send and retrieve data, it must to go through certain network protocols, and for the message to rightfully end up on the Internet and for it to route back to your intended recipient, the data must be transmitted within the communication protocols.

Securing an entire IT infrastructure is hard enough but the IoE demands an even bigger security approach to keep endpoints and networks protected against more sophisticated cybercrime techniques and tools such as sniff er attacks, denial of service attacks, compromised-key attacks, password-based attacks and man-in-the-middle attacks.

As smartphones’ popularity skyrocketed in recent years, navigation became more and more well-known as a feature

of these devices. More and more consumers got to like this useful feature, and realize how easy getting from one place to another becomes with some professional navigation help. However, the primary location of navigation is in the car, where it can enhance a smooth driving experience.

In comparison with smartphone navigation, line-fit navigation systems carry a number of additional services and there is another highly important aspect: the driver’s safety, on which OEMs put extra emphasis. Giving the necessary information in a way that does not distract the driver is a key issue. Moreover, as technology evolves, and new generations of gadgets enter the market, it is important for OEMs as well, that when designing a car, the technology used reflects the cutting-edge innovations available for consumers. So what are the most important

aspects of navigation OEMs are taking into account when deciding?

options for oEMsThere are two ways an OEM can choose.

One is to incorporate the solution of an already existing, strong brand into their car as navigation or infotainment system. The clear advantage of this is the presence of a popular and already established brand, which consumers already know and like. However, it gives little freedom to the OEM in terms of own branding and features, besides the fact, that they have to let an outsider brand in the car that they design, produce and market.

The other way for OEMs is to implement a system that carries the own brand of the car, that is tailored to the target group of the car, thus building the image of the OEM, instead of a distinctive solution provider. The aim here is to offer a user experience that is the car’s own, with specialized features, and the very important part: design. The look of the navigation system is something the driver interacts with every now and then, therefore it can be another touch point of the car brand – and OEMs are willing to possess this touch point rather than giving it away to another brand. With a tailored navigation the look and the feel can be reflecting the car’s own style, making a difference, also allowing the car brand to create something exclusive. The number of the available extras and features is also something to adjust to the category of the car: the low-cost segment needs reliable and fully working basic functions, whereas in the premium segment more screens, more features, more connected services are available – only imagination is the limit.

Big data is the next big thingAnother interesting thing on the long run that

will become more and more important forall OEMs is the data collected during the journey. There is an enormous amount of data being created, that draws up driving patterns, car performance, usage characteristics – an invaluable source of first-hand information, which serves as excellent insight and feedback. Adding navigation-sourced data to it makes it even more desirable. By using an external system, OEMs would have to let go some of this treasure and acknowledge their cars function as data-collecting vehicles for other brands. Big data is too valuable to allow that.

We have to mention a number of challenges as well that OEMs face when looking for a good navigation solution to their cars. Reliability, updated maps and technological aspects is just one part of the story. Localization is an issue that

can not be stressed enough. In a vast country like India, where the majority of the roads are unnamed and navigation is a new phenomenon, software providers have to be aware that the navigation culture is truly different from other parts of the world. Intelligent search, point addressing and natural guidance are all features developed to fit the Indian navigation habits and needs.

Talking about India, the market is currently looking for line-fit solutions that are affordable and scalable, to provide navigation solutions available for the low-cost car segments as well.

All in all, OEMs are looking for ways to personalize the infotainment systems and navigation of the car, both in terms of look and feel, as well as in the list of features and services. They regard navigation more and more as part of the brand. In the end, it is a product development process that requires a partner, able to consult OEMs as an expert, to find the best possible solution for each car type and segment. We as NNG have over 10 years of experience in automotive navigation, and gained extensive industry knowledge and expertise. Our solutions are used in more than 20 million cars already – with this experience we are ready to assist our partners on what technology and solutions suit their car models best.

As you are in the service industry, what all challenges you are facing in this industry?

Challenge is from the Non-Organised Sector that does not have proper training or skill in repairing of equipment. Brands need to view Service as a Tool of Value rather than a Cost. The fact that many Variants of the same model are often offered by ODMs in China also adds to the chaos with software support not being provided for those models by the ODMs often rendering the units unusable. Absence of proper spare planning is another challenge which the Brand has now started taking seriously. We sit with the brand and help them in planning their spare.

What new solutions are you offering to your clients, as the servicing industry is evolving at a very fast pace?

We have unique low-cost solutions for pan-India repairs. We believe in offering a launch pad for brands which are ambitious to spread across the country. We incubate start-up firms in their quest for providing warranty support by providing them with a financially viable platform for their services.

As many vendors are entering into exclusive tie-ups with eCommerce sites, what kind of

“RV Solutions Spreads Its Mobile and other Servicing Network Pan India”

servicing are you offering to those clients who are buying online? Is there any difference in servicing modules?

There is no difference in the servicing module online since the brands before tying up with the online network ensure that the service is set-up in place before offering to the people at large.

What according to you will drive the mobile market next year? Will more players jump into the market or will some existing ones perish?

The market for the next 5 years will see a lot of players coming in from China as well as from other South Asian Countries into India. India is at the cusp of a major Smartphone overhaul. Added to the impact of the government insistence on riding the information superhighway, the end customer is here to benefit both in terms of Quality (with Quality Certifications like the BIS here to stay for the long run) and also in terms of pricing with lower priced phones being easily available for the customer. ‘Make in India’ is also much needed shot in the arm for local grown handset manufacturers who can begin manufacturing handsets locally for global markets in Africa and Latin America. This will see a tectonic shift in the way the customer uses his phone and also with the provisioning of mGov initiative, more services will be available for the common man to use.

What is your company’s growth rate, what numbers you are targeting for next year?

We are growing from end to end by increasing our service footprint pan India. We are also looking at adding more SKUs in repair. This fiscal year, we plan to create a repair hub around the outskirts of Mumbai followed by Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata in the next 6 months so that we can provide faster and effective service. We are also planning to increase our Level 3 workforce. Our Objective is to have a large repair network across the country by 2020 and also provide a role in helping and creating ‘service entrepreneurs’ by giving them the skills necessary to open up a service centre.

RV Solutions is providing training and running software development services for Government and Corporate sectors. They are also implementing e-Governance projects and working with all the major Telecom Operators in India as their authorized repair service centre for telecom equipment like radios, access points, Wimax Eqipment, etc. RV Solutions is also providing after sales service for leading Mobile and Electronic Tablets brands through 400+ service points all over India. They are working with Major LED / LCD ODMs like BenQ and Briview for RMA and after sales repairs and also offering turnkey solutions for imports in India. In an interaction with Mobility Magazine, Vivek Gupta - Head - Service and Support & Aditya Padman - National Head - Business Development and New Initiatives share their objectives and plans for the coming years.

How often

you clean your

Your phone is exposed to multiple surfaces and unwashed hands throughout the day. If you think about

it, how often do you really clean your mobile phone? Regularly cleaning your cell phone, tablet, MP3 player's touch screen or any other touch screen device is essential for its upkeep and longevity. Smudges all over your gadget's touch screen? Maybe the fingerprint trail for the latest, must-have game you are addicted to lies on your screen? Learn how to wipe away those smudges with ease and how to avoid doing things your touch screen would not appreciate.

Few tips to clean your Smartphone:

Before cleaning switch off the device first remove the case if you are using any.

Choose a microfiber cloth. This is ideal for cleaning a touchscreen. Some devices will have such a cloth included or perhaps you can borrow the one you use on your sunglasses.

Give the screen a once over by brushing it with the microfiber in small circles.

To clean your phone, you will need a cotton ball or a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol.

Dampen the cotton ball or Q-tip with the rubbing alcohol and clean your screen with it. Never use the rubbing alcohol directly on your phone. Clean the screen in single strokes from top to down. Do not put too much pressure on the screen when cleaning it.

If your phone has a keypad with buttons, you can use a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean through the gaps. Remember to be gentle and make sure the liquid doesn't seep into the phone.

To clean the insides of your phone,

Smartphone?you will have to open it and use a dry Q-tip to clean it. Don't use any kind of solution to clean the inside of your gadget. While cleaning the USB and earphone ports, make sure that the rubbing alcohol does not seep into the phone. You can also gently blow into these ports to blow off the dust lodged in them.

Also, don't forget to clean your phone case too. Meticulously clean the corners and edges as dust often collects in these spots.

Allow your phone to air-dry before you close it up and put it back in the case.

Make sure that you clean your phone thoroughly once in a while.

To clean it on a daily basis, use a microfiber cloth.
