Sentencing. Use a variety of texts beyond the curriculum to develop reading for pleasure. The Literature poems can also be used as creative writing stimuli. Students need to establish the habit of writing and redrafting in timed conditions early in the course.

AQA poetry anthologies English Literature Paper 2, Section B specimen paper Q26 ‘Storm on the Island’, 30 marks Compare the ways poets present the power of the natural world in ‘Storm on the Island’ and in one other poem from ‘Power and Conflict’.
Punctuation. There will always be a named poem which will be printed on the exam paper – should be used for close AO2 references. Literacy focus for this half term is punctuation as a route into analysing poetic form.

Structure and essay writing skills.
Comparison of unseen texts is a requirement of the specification. However, this element is only worth 8 marks out of a total 168. Both poems will have very clear links and connections.
