F.L.Smidth is the leading supplier of separa-

tors to the world’s cement industry, provid-

ing various types of high-efficiency separa-

tors for a wide range of applications.

Decadesof k now-how in high-effi ciency

separation enablesF.L.Smidth to supply the

most suitable separator for almost any

application. The SEPA X concept – intro-

duced with the original SEPAX separator

and later adopted for separators of derived

design - has proved hi ghly successful i n the

cement industry.

Low initial costsThe simple and space-saving design of the

SEPA X mak es it an economi cal investment.

The separator is fi tted wi thin a self-support-

ing shell structure, and the entire separator

unit with cyclones is supported by one ring-

shaped support only. Reducer and motor

are placed in line with the bearing housing,

forming a compact and rigid drive-line unit.

Finally, the SEPAX has one feed point placed

at a low level, minimising the height of the

separator feed elevator and simplifying the

layout.

The SEPAX t op seal pri nciple:

1 Air flow across rotor (1) is limited by n arrow gaps (2)

2 Reduced air flow across the rotor top, fitted wit h

deflector wi ngs (3), practi cally elim inat es passage of

coarse material t o th e fines outlet (4)

3 Coarse material that is inclined to pass in a ballistic

curve (5) across the r otor is intercepted by t he

chromium carbide protected seal ring (6)

Low initial cost

structure

• Standardrangedriveparts• One support for the

complete separator

• One feed point in low

position

Low operating costs

• High-efficiencyseparation

• Highly effective nibs

extraction minimises

clogging of mill grates,

thus enabling long-

lastingfull millcapacity

Low maintenance costs

• Wear protection selected

for cost efficiency and

based on experience

• Automatic grease lubri-

cation with enclosed

refill system

• Practically eliminated

nibs recirculation reduces

maintenance work and

downtime caused by

clogged mill grates.

• Designed to enable easy

access for inspection and

replacementof compo-

nents

Highly flexible and versa-

tile. Adaptable to a wide

range of grinding and dry-ing systems such as

• All cement grinding ball

mill systems

• Fully or semi air-swept

raw grinding ball mills

• Flash driers

Flexible and versatileThe SEPA X is designed to be equipped with

drives ranging from low power drives for

raw grinding to pow erful drivesfor the

finest grinding whi le still uti lising the full

design air flow.

This ensuresmaximum effi ciency regard-

less of the end product quali ty specifi ed.

The SEPAX can be equipped w ith separa-

tor-supported cyclonesor stand-alone

cyclones for the collection of fines.

The feed concept is based on the material

being suspended in the vertical air flow

through the riser duct. This makes the

SEPA X highly adaptable to variousraw

grinding applications. C onsequently, the

separator can be integrated into the mill

venting system, in the case of fully or semi

air-swept m ills, or installed on top of a flash

dryer that formsthe riser duct leading up to

the SEPAX.

Low operating costsThe SEPA X is very efficient in operation and

cutsspecifi c energy consumpti on to a mini-

mum, while maintaining maximum output.

A highly effective system for removal of

worn grinding media from the mill dis-

charge material meansless clogging of

diaphragms. This optimises mill performance

and enableslong-term continuousoperation.

Low maintenance costsThe SEPAX is designed to be easily service-

able. Worn and broken grinding media are

not recycled, which helps to save mainte-nance work on the mill grate plates. The

removal of nibs from the separator feed

reducesthe wear on crit ical separator parts.

Easily accessible and serviceable wear pro-

tection i s fi tted where appropriate and the

bearing unit can easily be replaced.

Tromp curve

The tromp curve indicating the per-

centage of feed rejected in relation

to part ic le size has the fol lowi ng

characteristics:

The cut size, x50, expresses the exact

partic le size at which the quant it ies

of fine and coarse material are equal.

The by-pass value, , expresses the propor t ion o f separato r feed tha t

passes through the separator

unp rocessed and leaves it as coarse

material.

The sharpness facto r , = d25 /d75 ,

expresses the inclination of the

Tromp curve and th us the sharpness

of th e separation.

Densit Wearcast 2000The material isa 30 mm t hick cement

bound composition containing 55% hard

(9 M ohs) grainsof corundum (Al2O 3).

Densit W earcast is easy to install and repai r.

It has been tested to outlast basalt by a

factor of 1.3 when exposed to sandblasting

at various inclinations.

Hardox 400This is a world-know n, abrasion resistant,

weldable steel plate, which is through-

hardened to more than 360 HB and is

recognised for its superior abrasion resist-

ance properties.

Chromium compoundwear plate

This material isa m ild steel plate with a

thickness of 4 to 8 m m on to which a

4 - 5 mm layer of hardfacing is welded. The

hardfacing consistsof primary chromium

carbides in a eutectic matrix wi th eutectic

chromium carbides. T he hardness of the

matrix reaches 600-750 HV, the grains 1400

HV. The temperature limit is 400 deg C .

High carbon steelThis is a low cost and highly versatile mate-

rial which is used in placeswhere moderate

wear occurs.
