How it worksThe YHAU-CGN/H direct fired absorption chiller-heater uses water as the refrigerant and lithiumbromide (LiBr) as the absorbent. It is the strong affinity that these two substances have for oneanother that makes the chiller cycle work. The vapor pressure of the LiBr solution is lower thanthe vapor pressure of the refrigerant. The vapor pressure of the LiBr solution is directly relatedto the amount of refrigerant (water) present in the solution with the LiBr salt and the solutiontemperature. The entire absorption process occurs in almost a complete vacuum.

Figure 1: Direct fired absorption cycle

EvaporatorLiquid refrigerant enters the evaporator and is distributed over the top of the tube bundle. As therefrigerant droplets cover the outside surface of the tubes, the heat from the returning chilledwater passing through the tubes causes the refrigerant to flash from a liquid to a vapor. Thetemperature at which this happens depends on the evaporator shell pressure, which is dictatedby the absorber section of the chiller-heater. The refrigerant vapor passes through the mist

Page 11: Model YHAU-CGN/H Double Effect Direct Fired Chiller-Heater

eliminators and into the absorber section of the chiller-heater. As the liquid refrigerant passesdown through the bundle of evaporator tubes, more and more of the refrigerant vaporizes. Therefrigerant remaining in a liquid state at the bottom drains into the refrigerant tank and is pumpedback up the top of the tube bundle where the process is repeated.

AbsorberConcentrated LiBr solution enters the absorber section of the chiller-heater and is sprayed overthe absorber tube bundle. Because the vapor pressure of the concentrated solution is very low, therefrigerant (water) vapor from the evaporator flows into the absorber and is absorbed into the LiBrsolution. This mass transfer process lowers the concentration of the LiBr solution as the refrigerant(water) is absorbed into the solution. This dilution process generates heat and, if not cooled, wouldeventually stop as the solution temperature would rise with a corresponding rise in vapor pressure. This would be similar to closing the vanes or slowing down a centrifugal compressor on a chiller-heater where the load was constant. The water flowing inside the absorber tube bundle comesfrom the cooling tower and serves to cool the LiBr solution as it flows down over the tube bundle. This allows the absorption process to continue and the solution becomes more diluted as it absorbsmore refrigerant vapors. When the LiBr solution reaches the bottom of the absorber section, it hasbecome too diluted and drains into the suction of the solution pump where it is re-concentrated.The following section describes the highly unique 2-step evaporator-absorber design of the YHAU-CGN/H direct fired absorption chiller-heater.

Two-step evaporator – absorberThe evaporator and the absorber are split into two sections. This design, similar to a series-counter-flow chiller arrangement along with the parallel flow cycle, facilitates lower LiBr solutionconcentrations. This reduces pressure, the potential for corrosion, and the risk of crystallization andimproves efficiency in conjunction with other advanced components described later in this section. The two evaporators are in series with respect to the chilled water flow through the tubes. In otherwords, the chilled water flows through the lower evaporator tubes first and then to the upperevaporator tubes. Each evaporator operates at a slightly different temperature and pressure. The refrigerant in the lower evaporator boils at a slightly higher temperature than in the upperevaporator, consequently cooling the chilled water in two steps. The two absorber sections are split also, with the strong solution first entering the top of theuppermost absorber and flowing down through the top absorber bundle. It then flows into the topof the lower absorber section. The strong solution entering the upper absorber takes advantageof its lower vapor pressure allowing the upper evaporator to operate at a lower pressure andtemperature. When the LiBr solution enters the lower absorber section it is somewhat diluted from therefrigerant vapor that boiled off in the upper evaporator. At this lower concentration the solutionvapor pressure would normally not be sufficient to provide an evaporator pressure low enough tosatisfy the leaving chilled water design. However, the lower evaporator is the first step of the chilledwater cooling cycle, and the dilute solution’s vapor pressure is adequate to maintain the requiredtemperature and pressure in the lower evaporator. The cooling water enters the lower absorber section first, keeping the vapor pressure of the weakersolution as low as possible. Both the refrigerant (water) and LiBr dispersion system are gravity fed and made of stainless steel.

Page 12: Model YHAU-CGN/H Double Effect Direct Fired Chiller-Heater

Plate type heat exchangersThe dilute (weak) LiBr solution leaving the absorber section is pumped through various platetype heat exchangers (such as the low temperature heat exchanger, refrigerant condensate heatexchanger, and high temperature heat exchanger) before it enters the high temperature generatorand low temperature generator sections. These plate type heat exchangers provide cycle efficiencyby preheating the dilute solution. Preheating the dilute solution reduces the consumption of thedriving heat source in the high temperature generator section. The concentrated solution flows outof the generators and back through the various heat exchangers.

The relatively high temperature solution streams from the two generators are used to preheat theweak solution stream leaving the absorber.

Model YHAU-CGN/H Double Effect Direct Fired Chiller-Heater10

Page 13: Model YHAU-CGN/H Double Effect Direct Fired Chiller-Heater

Parallel flowThe unique parallel flow divides the solution between the low temperature generator and the hightemperature generator sections into two parallel, balanced paths. The result is a safer and moreefficient operation at a much lower pressure than conventional series-flow designs. The varioussolution-to-solution plate type heat exchangers optimize efficiency by enabling effective heattransfer between the diluted (weak) and the concentrated LiBr solutions.

High temperature generator (HTG)YHAU’s high temperature generator section has the unique water tube design where the dilute LiBrsolution coming from the high temperature heat exchanger is inside the tubes, and the productsof combustion (exhaust gas from burning of natural gas), is on the shell side. The hot refrigerantvapor boiled off is sent to the low temperature generator. This leaves behind a strong solution thatis returned through the high temperature heat exchanger. The water tube design is efficient and compact with a lower pressure drop as compared tothe conventional smoke tube type design where the exhaust gas is inside the tubes while theLiBrsolution is on the shell side. Being more efficient, the exhaust gas leaving temperature is lowerthan the smoke tube design. The water tube design also benefits from less volume of LiBr solution and hence faster startuptime. It does not require any ceramic refractory compared to the conventional design. Thisimproves reliability.

Low temperature generator (LTG)The hot refrigerant vapor from the high temperature generator heats up the dilute solution comingin from the low temperature heat exchanger. This vapor then condenses into hot refrigerant liquidand is sent to the condenser through the refrigerant condensate heat exchanger. The additionalvapor produced in the LTG by heating up the dilute solution is sent to the condenser. The LTG is of a falling film design, ensuring superior heat transfer and enhanced life by eliminatingwear and tear at the tube supports.

Page 14: Model YHAU-CGN/H Double Effect Direct Fired Chiller-Heater

CondenserThe cooling water from the absorber section enters into the condenser section. This helps tocondenser the refrigerant vapors produced in the LTG and the condensed refrigerant from therefrigerant condensate heat exchanger. The liquid refrigerant is then sent back to the evaporatorsection through a U-pipe (liquid seal). This completes the cooling cycle.

Equipment OverviewGeneralThe YHAU-CGN/H direct fired absorption chiller-heaters are factory-packaged including theevaporator, condenser, low temperature generator, high temperature generator, absorber, pumps, automatic purging system, control center, interconnecting unit piping, burner, and wiring. The initial charge of refrigerant and LiBr solution is supplied for each chiller-heater. Actual shippingprocedures depends on a number of project-specific details.Johnson Controls factory-trained, field service representatives supervise or perform the initial start-up and provide concurrent operator instructions.

ConstructionThe chiller-heater consists of a low temperature generator, high temperature generator, solutionheat exchangers, absorber, condenser, and an evaporator. To minimize the risk of corrosion, theevaporator dispersion tray and the absorber dispersion tray are stainless steel. Each dispersiontray has two step construction and any foreign material is removed from the LiBr solution or therefrigerant at the first stage tray. This avoids any degradation of dispersion performance due toclogging. The evaporator, absorber, condenser, low temperature generator, and high temperature generatorare a shell and tube design. A shell-side rupture disc is furnished and set to blow at 12.0 psig, +/- 2.0psi.The evaporator cycle and the absorber cycle consists of two-step (upper stage and lower stage). This technology makes absorber solution concentration weak, extending machine life. Furthermore, this technology makes the generator solution temperature lower than an ordinary absorber. The plate-type solution heat exchangers are equipped to preheat the diluted solution and achievehigher efficiency.

WaterboxesWaterboxes are removable to facilitate tube cleaning and replacement. All absorber and condenserwaterboxes for CGN/H360EXH/S models or larger are marine type. Water circuit tubing isreplaceable from either end of the absorption unit. All waterboxes and associated water circuitnozzles and tube bundles are designed for 150 psig and water tested to 188 psig. Vent and drainconnections are provided on each waterbox. All the water connections are equipped with ANSIflanges. Mating flanges are not included. The inside of the waterboxes and waterbox covers iscoated with an epoxy resin paint.

Tube materialsEvaporator tubes are Low Residual Phosphorus Deoxidized Copper (C1201), finned type, with a wallthickness before finning of 0.024 in. The absorber, condenser and low temperature generator tubesare bare type and made of 0.024 in. Wall stainless steel (sus436ltb). High temperature generatortubes are carbon steel.

Automatic crystallization prevention systemThe YHAU-CGN/H chiller-heater is built with an anti-crystallization system. The absorber and theevaporator are located side by side in the same shell and separated by an eliminator. When theconcentration of LiBr in the chiller-heater goes up, the water level at the evaporator increases andautomatically spills over to the absorber. This causes the concentration rate of the solution at theabsorber to go down.

PumpsSolution and refrigerant pumps are hermetically sealed, self-lubricating, totally enclosed, factory-mounted, wired, and tested. Motor windings are not exposed to LiBr or water. The suction anddischarge connections for each pump is fully welded to the unit piping to minimize the opportunityfor leaks. Pumps are designed to operate for a total of 60,000 hours. Components in the pumpssuch as bearings and sealing gaskets are to be replaced every 20,000 hours.

Automatic purging systemThe chiller-heater is equipped with a purging system to remove non-condensable gases from theunit during operation. Non-condensables are collected by an eductor and accumulated in thepurge tank. The chiller-heater can dictate the pressure increase in the purge tank and automaticallyremove the non-condensable gas through the operation of an electric vacuum pump. The purge pump is a oil rotary double stage design, and is furnished complete with a motor and allrequired accessories. The purge pump is shipped mounted on the chiller-heater and the connectinghose is factory installed. The purge pump oil is charged at the factory.

Lithium bromide and refrigerantLiBr contains a lithium molybdate corrosion inhibitor to minimize the rate of ferrous metalcorrosion on both the solution and refrigerant sides of the unit. The solution and deionizedrefrigerant water are in the barrels and shipped with the chiller. They are changed at the fieldduring commissioning.

Dry shipmentThe solution and refrigerant water are kept in the barrels and shipped with the chiller. They arecharged at the field during the commissioning. The chiller is charged with N2 to 4.4 psig during thedelivery.

Linkless type gas burnerThe gas burner and the train is designed and built according to UL standards and codes. Capacitycontrol for gas burner is a proportional control. A linkless type gas burner facilitates ideal air-fuelratio and high combustion efficiency throughout its capacity control range. The air-fuel ratio canbe adjusted through the touch panel screen on the control panel; simply enter the required valveopening value, with no mechanical adjustment required. The gas burner must include the main and pilot gas shut off valve, the main and pilot gas governor, the high and low gas pressure switch, the low air pressure switch, a flame detector, a gas pressuregauge, and a gas strainer.

Control panelEach unit is furnished complete with a factory mounted and pre-wired control system. The controlpanel enclosure is equipped with a hinged access door with lock and key. The protection rating ofthe control panel is equivalent to IP42. All temperature sensors and other control devices necessaryto sense unit operating parameters are factory mounted and wired to panel. The control panelincludes a touch panel showing all system parameters in various languages with numeric data inimperial or metric units. The operating program is stored in nonvolatile memory (SRAM) to eliminate chiller-heater failuredue to AC power failure.Capacity Control - The control panel automatically controls the input gas flow rate to maintainthe programmed leaving chilled water setpoint for cooling loads. Page 22: Model YHAU-CGN/H Double Effect Direct Fired Chiller-Heater

Split Shipment – For tight rigging jobs, it is possible to ship the unit in two pieces – the uppersection (evaporator, absorber, condenser, low temperature generator, and high temperaturegenerator) and the lower section (solution heat exchangers and base frame). The solution andrefrigerant is shipped in barrels, along with the chiller, and is charged at the job site by JohnsonControls.High temperature hot water for heating - This design has one auxiliary heat exchanger toproduce the hot water when the heating mode is selected. This hot water is heated to more than140°F (60°C). The maximum temperature is 185°F (85°C). The pressure differential switch is optionalfor hot water.Simultaneous operation - This is equipped with an auxiliary hot water heat exchanger and itprovides both chilled water and hot water simultaneously. The unit operation during simultaneousoperation is initiated and controlled by the chilling load. This is similiar to the normal chillingoperation, with the difference being that during simultaneous operation, some of the vapourgenerated in the HTG is used to make hot water. As the unit operation is controlled by the chillingload, the amount of available heating capacity varies as the chilling load varies. The three-way valvecontrols the hot water outlet temperature. The three-way valve and the sensor are installed on theclient's hot water system. When the unit is in 'heating only' mode, and not simultaneous mode, thehot water three-way control valve must be in the open position to ensure full flow through the hotwater heat exchanger. The hot water controller then modulates the burner to meet load variations.

Application DataThe following discussion is a guide in the application and installation of YHAU-CGN/H direct firedchiller-heaters to ensure the reliable, trouble free life that this equipment was designed for. Whilethis guide is directed towards normal water chilling applications, your local  Johnson Controls salesrepresentative can provide complete recommendations on other types of applications.

LocationYHAU-CGN/H units make relatively little noise or vibration when compared to a centrifugal orscrew chiller. The chiller-heater can be generally located at any level in a building where theconstruction supports the total system operating weight. The unit site must be a floor, mountingpad or foundation that is level and capable of supporting the operating weight of the YHAU-CGN/H chiller-heater. The YHAU-CGN/H unit operates properly and produce maximum output, if it isinstalled level within 1/1000 of the unit length in the lengthwise direction and 1/1000 of unit widthin the widthwise direction only. The system location must provide sufficient space around the unit to facilitate tube removal, ifrequired. If a door or other large opening is conveniently located opposite one end of the system, the tubes can be extracted and replaced through these openings. Allow sufficient clearance on theremaining sides of the unit for necessary access and maintenance. Do not put flammable materialsnear the unit.Absorption chiller-heaters are not suitable for outdoor installation. The machine room must beenclosed, with adequate lighting, and correctly ventilated to keep its temperature no higher than104°F, and no lower than 50°F .

Water circuitsFlow rate – For normal fluid chilling duty, evaporator and absorber/condenser flow rates of up to10.9 ft/s are facilitated in the heat exchanger tubes. Under variable chilled and hot fluid and coolingfluid flow conditions, special attention needs to be paid to the rate of change of the flow rate withtime and the minimum/maximum velocities through the tubes. Applications involving chilled andcooling fluid flow rates that vary by more than +10% from design require special consideration on acase by case basis.Water quality – The practical and economical application of liquid chiller-heaters requires thatthe quality of the water supply for the evaporator and the absorber/condenser be analyzed by awater treatment specialist. Water quality can affect the performance of any chiller-heater throughcorrosion, deposits of heat-resistant scale, sedimentation, or organic growth. These impact chiller-heater performance, and increase operating and maintenance costs. Normally, performance can bemaintained by corrective water treatment and periodic cleaning of tubes. If water conditions thatcannot be corrected by proper water treatment exist, it is necessary to provide a larger allowancefor fouling, or specify special material of construction.General water piping – All chilled/hot water and cooling water piping must be designed andinstalled in accordance with accepted piping practice. Chilled/hot water and cooling water pumpsmust be located to discharge through the YHAU-CGN/H unit to assure positive pressure andflow through the unit. Piping must include offsets to provide flexibility and must be arranged toprevent drainage of water from the evaporator, absorber, and condenser when the pumps are shutdown. Piping must be adequately supported and braced independent of the chiller-heater to avoidimposing strain on chiller-heater components. Hangers must faciliate the alignment of the pipe.Isolators in the piping and in the hangers are required to achieve sound and vibration control.Convenience considerations – With consideration given to facilitating the performance of routinemaintenance work, some or all of the following steps can be taken by the customer:

• Evaporator, absorber, and condenser waterboxes are equipped with plugged vent and drainconnections.

• If required vent and drain valves can be installed with or without piping to an open drain.

Page 24: Model YHAU-CGN/H Double Effect Direct Fired Chiller-Heater

• Pressure gauges with stopcocks and stop valves, can be installed in the inlets and outlet of thecooling, chilled/hot water lines as close as possible to the chiller-heater.

• An overhead monorail or beam can be used to facilitate servicing.

Connections – The standard YHAU-CGN/H unit is designed for 150 psig design working pressureand water tested to 188 psig in both the chilled/hot and cooling water circuits. The connections(water nozzles) to these circuits are furnished in accordance with ANSI flanges. Piping must bearranged for ease of disassembly at the unit for performance of such routine maintenance as tubecleaning. All water piping must be thoroughly cleaned of all dirt and debris before final connectionsare made to the YHAU-CGN/H machine.Chilled and hot water – The chilled/hot water circuit uses a differential pressure switch asstandard. It is factory mounted in the water nozzle connection and wired to the chiller-heatercontrol panel. A water strainer with a 10 mesh must be field-installed in the chilled and hot waterinlet line as close as possible to the chiller-heater. If located close enough to the chiller-heater, thechilled/hot water pump can be protected by the same strainer. The flow switch and strainer ensurechilled and hot water flow during unit operation. The loss or severe reduction of water flow couldseriously impair the YHAU-CGN/H unit performance or even result in tube freeze-up.Cooling water – Like the chilled/hot water circuit, the cooling water circuit requires a means ofproving flow. Low flow protection is provided by an optional differential pressure switch mountedin the water nozzle connection and wired to the chiller-heater control panel. The YHAU-CGN/H chiller-heater is engineered for maximum efficiency at both design and partload operation by taking advantage of the colder cooling tower water temperatures, whichnaturally occur in the winter months. In its standard configuration, YHAU-CGN/H absorbers cantolerate entering cooling water temperatures as low as 68°F. Because the unit flow rates must bemaintained, the suggested method of tower water temperature control is a three way mixing valve.

Sound and vibration considerationsAs the YHAU-CGN/H unit generates relatively little vibration when compared to a centrifugal orscrew chiller-heater, vibration eliminating mounts are not usually required. However, when themachine is installed where even mild noise is a problem, mounts or pads must be used. The use ofanchoring bolts on the machine legs is suggested. See Sound Data.

Thermal insulationYHAU-CGN/H units require thermal insulation (by others) on both the hot and cold surfaces inorder to achieve maximum efficiency and prevent sweating.

Electrical dataTotal kW includes power requirements for the system solution and refrigerant pumps. All modelshave one solution pump, one solution spray pump and one refrigerant pump. See Electrical Data -CG/AN.

Natural gas inlet pressureThe maximum acceptable pressure at the inlet of the gas train is 4.4 psig. If the value is more thanthis, a special gas train is required.

Unit of measure: dB(A)/dB(C)Position of instrument: Height - 59 in.Horizontal - 39 in. from chiller-heater surface

Noise emission information: The direct fired chiller-heater running with the burner mightproduce A-weighted emission sound pressure level in excess of 80 dB(A). Normally the A-weightedsound power level is less than 100 dB(A). Hearing protection must be worn at all times whenoperating the chiller-heater. This hearing protection can impact the way that operators mustcommunicate to be understood.

ConstructionThe chiller-heater consists of a low temperature generator, a high temperature generator, hightemperature solution heat exchanger, low temperature solution heat exchanger, LTG refrigerantcondensate heat exchanger, absorber, condenser, and evaporator. To minimize the risk ofcorrosion, the evaporator dispersion tray and the absorber dispersion tray are of stainless steel. Each dispersion tray has two stage constructions and any foreign material is removed from theLiBr solution or the refrigerant at the first stage tray to avoid any degradation of dispersionperformance by clogging. The evaporator, absorber, condenser, and low temperature generator are of shell and tubeconstruction. The high temperature generator is a liquid tube type. A shell-side rupture disc isfurnished and set to blow at 12.0 psig, +/- 2.0 psi.The evaporator cycle and the absorber cycle consist of a two-step technology (upper stage andlower stage). This technology makes absorber solution concentration weak and makes the hightemperature generator solution temperature lower than the ordinary machine, that extends themachine life. Low temperature generator is a falling liquid film type.Three plate-type solution heat exchangers (high temperature solution heat exchanger, lowtemperature solution heat exchanger and LTG refrigerant condensate heat exchangers) areequipped to achieve higher efficiency. The LiBr solution flow type is in parallel flow cycle. The flow of weak solution pumped fromthe absorber initially passes through the low temperature solution heat exchanger to improveoperating efficiency by preheating and is divided into two paths. One path leads to the hightemperature generator through the high temperature solution heat exchanger and the other leadsto the low temperature generator in parallel.

The unit is hermetically tight and built to very stringent conditions. It operates under a bettervacuum, that improves performance and reliability ensuring design performance to GB/T18362-2008 Standard (2.03*10-6 Pa*m3/s).

Tube materialsEvaporator tubes are Low Residual Phosphorus Deoxidized Copper (C1201), finned type with awall thickness before finning of 0.024 in. The absorber, condenser, and low temperature generatortubes are bare type and made of 0.024 in. wall stainless steel (SUS436LTB). High temperaturegenerator tubes are carbon steel.

WaterboxesWaterboxes are removable to facilitate tube cleaning and replacement whereas absorber andcondenser waterboxes for CGN/H360EX(H/S) model or larger are the marine type. Water circuittubing to be replaceable from either end of the absorption unit. All waterboxes and associatedwater circuit nozzles and tube bundles are designed for 150 psig working pressure and is watertested at 188 psig. Vent and drain connections are provided on each waterbox. All the waterconnections are equipped with ANSI flanges. Mating flanges are not included. The inside of thewaterboxes and waterbox covers are coated with epoxy resin paint.

Automatic decrystallization systemThe chiller-heater must have an anti-crystallization system. The absorber and the evaporator arelocated side by side in a same shell and separated by the eliminator. When the concentration rateof lithium bromide in the chiller-heater goes up, the water level at the evaporator increases andautomatically spills over to the absorber and the concentration rate of the solution at the absorbergoes down.

PumpsSolution pump, solution spray pump, and refrigerant pumps are hermetically sealed, self-lubricating, totally enclosed, factory-mounted, wired, and tested. Motor windings must not beexposed to lithium bromide or water. The suction and discharge connections for each pump is fullywelded to the unit piping to minimize the opportunity for leaks. Pump durability is designed tooperate for a total of 60,000 hours. Components in the pumps such as bearings and sealing gasketsrequire inspection every 20,000 hours and are replaced depending on necessity.

Fully automatic purging systemThe chiller-heater is equipped with an automatic purging system to remove non-condensable gasesfrom the unit during operation. Non-condensables are collected by an eductor and accumulatedin the purge tank. The control panel can sense the pressure increase in the purge tank andautomatically remove the non-condensable gas through the operation of an electric vacuum pump. The purge pump is a oil rotary double stage design, and is furnished complete with a motor andall required accessories. The purge pump is shipped mounted on the chiller-heater and connectinghose is factory installed. The purge pump oil is charged at the factory.

Lithium bromide and refrigerantLithium bromide contains lithium molybdate corrosion inhibitor to minimize the rate of ferrousmetal corrosion on both the solution and refrigerant sides of the unit. The solution and deionizedrefrigerant water are kept in barrels and shipped with the chiller. They are then charged at the fieldduring the commissioning.

Dry shipmentThe solution and refrigerant water are kept in the barrels and shipped with the chiller. They arecharged in the field during the commissioning. The chiller is charged with N2 to 4.4 psig during thedelivery.

Linkless type gas burnerGas burner and gas train are designed and built according to UL Standards and codes. Capacitycontrol for the gas burner is proportional control. Linkless type gas burner ensures ideal air-fuelratio and high combustion efficiency throughout its capacity control range. Air-fuel ratio can beadjusted through the touch panel screen on the control panel - simply enter the required valveopening value, no mechanical adjustment is required. The gas burner includes a main and pilot gas shut off valve, main and pilot gas governor, highand low gas pressure switch, low air pressure switch, flame detector, gas pressure gauge and gasstrainer.

Control panelEach unit is furnished complete with a factory mounted and pre-wired control system. The controlpanel enclosure is equipped with a hinged access door with lock and key. Protection rating of thecontrol panel is equivalent to IP42. All temperature sensors and other control devices necessaryto sense unit operating parameters are factory mounted and wired to panel. The control panelincludes a touch panel showing all system parameters in various languages with numeric data inimperial or metric units. The operating program is stored in nonvolatile memory (SRAM) to eliminate chiller-heater failuredue to AC power failure.Capacity Control - The control panel automatically controls the input gas flow rate to maintain theprogrammed leaving chilled or hot water setpoint for cooling loads. Capacity control range understandard condition is 20% to 100%. The input (gas) flow rate is manually adjustable from the controlpanel to any setting between minimum and maximum when automatic operation is not required.Solution Pump Variable Frequency Drive (Option) – Frequency control unit for solutioncirculation pump and solution spray pump can be equipped on direct-fired absorption chiller-heaters as an option. This unit controls frequency of solution pumps to improve part load efficiencyof chiller-heater depending on high temperature pressure, temperature and concentration.
